Location description from owner

The Scotland region

This area of Scotland is known as Argyll, and is renowned for its wild and rugged scenery. Peppered with sea and inland lochs and miles of often remote coastline, it is a favourite area for visitors from all over the world.

Driving through the historic towns brings a variety of interesting curio shops, museums, places to eat and visitor attractions. Popular places include the living museum at Inveraray Jail, Inveraray Castle, the underground power station at Loch Awe, take a cruise on Loch Lomond or try Quad Biking at Quadmania overlooking Loch Long.

The area is also renowned for its food and produce, with Loch Fyne Oysters being just half an hour from Lochgoilhead, as well as the microbrewery Fyne Ales where you can visit their tap room and have a brewery tour.

Argyll offers a truly great variety of places to go and things to do.

Lochgoilhead

Email us for a copy of our 17 page Destination Guide for Lochgoilhead. It covers everything you need to know about what is happening in the village as well as activities, restaurants, walks and touring in the area. There is much to tell about this special place. It is updated to make sure all the details are accurate.

Lochgoilhead, although only around an hour's drive from Glasgow, has a remote, relaxed feel to it. Situated within the Loch Lomond National Park, the village is a paradise for walkers, water sport enthusiasts, those who love 'the great outdoors', and those who are just looking for somewhere to crash out!

Due to the fact the village is at the end of the road, there is very little through traffic, couple this with good amenities at the local hotels leisure centre, the village is very popular with young families during the traditional holiday periods. The village has also become popular with retirees, many who visit to enjoy the tranquillity, or have retired to the area, often having enjoyed decades of memorable holidays in the village.

While some never leave the glen during their stay, many use the village as base to explore the west coast, either down through the Kintyre Peninsula, or further west to the Oban area. Just over one hour north is magnificent Glencoe which was the Scottish setting in the latest Bond film, Skyfall, as well parts of the Harry Potter movies.

Whatever your choice, active or relaxed, Lochgoilhead is a wonderful place that often captures the hearts of those who visit.

“Lovely Cottage with perfect location and views”

Reviewed 14 Apr 2015

Recently stayed for 4 nights at the Armadale Cottage. The cottage was everything we needed to have a great holiday. It was clean and tidy on our arrival. The cottage is in an excellent location right next to the Goil Inn bar. We didn't eat there but it looked nice. A short walk away is the Shore Inn. It is not normally open a Monday/Tuesday. We ate their twice and it was very good, they do take away which is great if you prefer to eat at home. The post office is a very short walk from the cottage and you can get basics from there. You could walk to the Cost Cutter at the holiday park however we drove! The cottage has an enclosed garden which was great as we have a dog. The dog and my step son had a great time playing in the garden as well as going across to the Loch. A great place that I would certainly recommend.

“Beautiful cottage, stunning setting”

Reviewed 29 Sep 2014

My husband and I stayed at Armadale Cottage last weekend with our two 21 year olds and 3 month old puppy. The cottage is very well equipped, beautifully clean and with everything you could need for a trip away. The setting is amazing and the view of the loch and hills from the front window is stunning. It is steps away from the pub/restaurant, shops and post office and there are many lovely walks from the cottage. We were blessed with a glorious weekend of sunshine but this cottage would be delightful at any time of the year. Would definitely go there again, we loved it
