Location description from owner

The Loch Tay region

The area surrounding Loch Tay is a mixture of gentle hills rolling east, at one end of the great loch, and the beginning of a more rugged landscape stretching westwards to Glen Coe in the distance, and beyond.

Commonly known as Breadalbane, the area immmediately around Killin (the fabled seat of the Clan MacNab) is rich in both history and geographical interest. From the famous Falls of Dochart, in the heart of Killin, right down to the far end of Loch Tay at Kenmore, boasting the Crannog Centre, there are numerous places of interest, all within easy driving distance.

The mighty Ben Lawers, the highest mountain in Perthshire, dominates the area, and is accompanied by a number of excellent climbs to suit all abilities. The area also boasts numerous walks, both in the hills and along Loch Tay and its feeder rivers.

Loch Tay

This part of west Perthshire is renowned for its scenery, Loch Tay being one of the highlights. There are endless beautiful walks to enjoy right from the doorstep - from a gentle amble across the surrounding fields and along the shoreline or through the picturesque glens to the peaks of Ben Lawers. There are more than 35 Munros within a 20 mile radius. This area is perfect for the keen bird watcher with Osprey and Golden Eagles and there are many exciting animals to spot including otters, red squirrels, mountain hare, pine martens, black cock and grouse. Deer are often seen grazing around the house.

The buzzing local village of Killin (2 miles) overlooks the famous Falls of Dochart and has lots to offer including an ancient clan burial island, a restored ‘longhouse’ and the ruins of Finlarig Castle with its hanging tree and beheading pit. Fishing and boat trips can be arranged as well as bike, canoe and kayak hire.

There are also many local activities to entertain all ages including mountain biking, 4WD mountain safaris, white water rafting, canoeing plus other water sports, several excellent golf courses and salmon & trout fishing. Whisky enthusiast will appreciate Dewars distillery in nearby Aberfeldy and for those who enjoy shopping, the internationally renowned House of Bruar is within easy reach as well as the thriving town of Pitlochry and city of Perth.
