The North Wales region

Snowdonia is a beautiful part of Wales, full of contrasts between gentle meadows, dramatic mountain scenery and stunning lakes. The coastline boasts many beautiful long stretches of sandy beaches. The area is also dotted with many interesting ancient castles for those interested in history. There are numerous narrow gauge and steam railways, including one that can take you to the summit of Snowdon, Wales' highest mountain. The whole area is a haven for outdoor pursuits enthusiasts.

Llwyngwril

Dolgellau is situated in southern Snowdonia at the head of the Mawdach estuary and nestling below Cader Idris. Nearby are the seaside resorts of Barmouth and Twywn, with beautiful beaches. You are within 30 minutes drive away from Coed y Brennen, a heaven for mountain bike enthusiasts, golfing at Aberdovey, fishing, sailing, windsurfing, pony trekking, white-water rafting and many more outdoor activities. If you prefer the more gentle pursuit of bird-watching, you can spot red kites, buzzards, inland cormorants locally , as well as our own family of white sparrows in our garden.

“Briliant Holiday Home for large Families & Friends”

Reviewed 30 Dec 2015

Pentre Bach Farmhouse was warm & cosy when we arrived with a lovely & informative welcome from the owners Mike & Wilma. We were staying for a Family Christmas break and the house was beautifully decorated complete with a Christmas Tree & welcoming Mulled Wine to greet us. All the rooms were clean & tidy, beds comfortable and plenty of bathrooms & ensuites to accommodate us all. A large sitting room with cosy open fire and comfy squishy sofas & chair and a huge dining room gave us all loads of room to play games & chill out. The kitchen is extremely well equipped with more than enough crockery & cooking utensils, glasses etc. to accommodate our party of 11 including cooking a Christmas Dinner. The sea views are spectacular even in the wind & rain! Large garden ideal for kids & dogs and a short walk to the stony local beach. The walk across the railway bridge to Barmouth a drink at the Last Inn, followed by a good play on the sandy beach for the dogs & kids before returning to the cars was a popular day out, along with the walks on the beautiful sandy Aberdyfi Beach. The lads enjoyed an evening at the Local Pub with a game of darts or two to keep them occupied! Excellent Wifi throughout the house, which given the number of electronic gadgets in use was a godsend! Only minus points, all very minor: kids would have liked a larger TV, we would have liked feather pillows, creaky headboard on double bed in one room (ensuite seaview room). All in all a brilliant location and property for a holiday with a large group of friends or family, would love a return trip at a sunnier time of year!

Thank you very much for your kind comments. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay at Pentre Bach and did manage to get out and explore the local area despite the largely wet weather. We'll take on board some of your suggestions but we do feel that the TV is big enough for holiday accommodation and wouldn't want the TV to dominate the lounge too much. We did renew at least two pillows in each bedroom this year but avoided feather pillows because of the number of guests who ask that we don't provide feather pillows and duvets. Perhaps we should invest in a few to keep on standby! We'll certainly check out the squeaky headboard!

“Perfect place for a great family get together.”

Lovely old house with tons of character - original shutters on the windows, beautiful hall & staircase, farmhouse kitchen. Great garden & BBQ, delightful peaceful village & a lovely walk to the beach. Owners really helpful & the kitchen was well equiped. We went in stormy October but the house was toasty warm & there was abundant logs for the open fire. Kids loved the space in the house & grounds (& Wifi). My parent's loved the sea view & comfy sofas. Lots of things to do nearby. Highly recommend the underground trampolines - Big Bounce & Portmerion for a more sedate day!

Thank you very much for your complimentary review. We're glad you all enjoyed your stay at Pentre Bach. We must give the underground trampolines at Blaenau a go!

“An amazing place to spend time with the people you love.”

My family and I stayed here for a long weekend to celebrate my mum and dads 40th wedding anniversary and it was perfect. All the bedrooms were very clean, with crisp clean linen. The open fire made the October evenings very cosy. The kitchen was well equipped for large groups and clean, with a good size oven. A walk to the beach is a must (sturdy footwear, it's a pebble beach) and the local pub was very friendly and seated 14 at short notice. In all a great place.

Thank you for your lovely review. We have many groups such as yourselves celebrating significant birthdays and anniversaries all year round. We do hope that we'll be able to welcome some or all of you back to Pentre Bach again in the future, perhaps for longer next time!

“Great place, beautiful house.”

Beautiful house, well equipped with everything you need. Enough room for 14 of us to sit for dinner, play games in the lounge with roaring open fire. All bedrooms are lovely most with ensuite bathrooms, with rooms at the top of the house which the kids loved. Everything you need for a get together with friends and family.

Thank you very much for your lovely review. We're glad you all enjoyed your stay despite the weather of early January! We do hope we'll be able to welcome you back again sometime in the future.

“Spacious, warm, clean, well fitted and lovely environment alround”

Reviewed 31 Dec 2013

A real nice place to relax and enjoy this part of Wales. The house has a friendly feel and is warm and well looked after. Big enough for all to be away from each other if need be and to allow children to run wild, but controlled. Dogs have a field to run in and the local walks, including the sea, fully express the area. Lovely pub, local trains and small shop. Could have stayed forever. Thanks

Thank you very much for your warm words. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay over the Christmas period. We'd never have known that you'd let the children run wild as you left it so clean and tidy. You're very welcome to come again!

“Beautiful Pentre Bach”

Reviewed 7 Nov 2013

A perfect place to introduce your new girlfriend/boyfriend to the whole family, lots of places for her/him to escape to it all gets too much with the Aunts, Uncles + Cousins. Lovely grounds, tidy and presentable house with amazing views + very close to the sea. Also really close to the secret (shh..) Blue Lake, magical. Highly recommended.

Many thanks for your kind review. We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay and hope that we'll be able to welcome you back to Pentre Bach again sometime.

“Very Grand and Luxurious”

Reviewed 6 Nov 2013

Although the weather was not brilliant, Pentre Bach remained warm and comfortable. It was lovely to spend just 2 nights in such a beautiful, large house. Certainly was a treat and would highly recommend. We also had Popty, the adjoining 4 bedroom cottage. This was ideal for our ever growing family, as it linked seamlessly to the main house. Another bonus is that we were able to take 2 well behaved dogs :-) which was absolutely great, as not many folk allow animals!

Thank you for your lovely review. When Pentre Bach and Y Popty are booked together , they do indeed provide lots of space for an extended family. We do accept one pet per cottage. We hope we'll be able to welcome you all back again to Pentre Bach.

“Excellent Weekend”

Reviewed 6 Nov 2013

We stayed for a long weekend all 18 of us in Pentre Bach and Popty. The house was very well appointed and equipped to a very good standard. All rooms were warm and toasty and the log fire in the lounge was a lovely feature enjoyed by all. The open sea views were an added bonus. The weather was mixed, but we came fully kitted out for all eventualities. Walk up to the Blue lake nearby is a must. - a real hidden gem ! Make sure you get directions from the owners. We will be back ....

Thank you very much for your excellent review. It was a pleasure to welcome you and your extended family to Pentre Bach and hope that you'll all come back again soon!

“Lovely house for large groups, warm and cosy with great view.”

Reviewed 20 Oct 2013

This is a lovely large house suitable for holidaying with friends or extended family. We spent a week in October and it was warm and cosy with plenty of seating in the lounge and a lovely log fire, a large dining table in the dining room and well equipped kitchen. The beds were comfy with nice en-suites/bathrooms, and lots of hot water! Great views and walking country. Would recommend the local train that goes along the coast, the house is walking distance to the station and it gives a break from driving on the windy Welsh roads. Also recommend the guided walk at RSPB Ynis-Hir Reserve down the coast.

Thank you very much for your complimentary review. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and will recommend the guided walk to future guests. We hope we'll be able to welcome you or any of your party back to Pentre Bach in the future.
