Location description from owner

The Wales region

Llansteffan is one of those rare but fast disappearing Welsh villages that remain in your memory for ever. Once you've experienced the magical beauty of a sunset over the castle above the River Tywi, and embraced the camaraderie of its vibrant community, it becomes very difficult to imagine how on earth, in your long life, you'd ever managed to miss such a priceless gem. But then Llansteffan has been described as Wales' best kept secret, a sort of Never Never land known only to locals, and the lucky descendants of those generations of Rhondda miners who trekked down west on the train to catch the ferry from Ferryside to Llansteffan for Miners Fortnight during the 19th and early 20th Century.

Llansteffan

Well, the ferry and the miners might have disappeared but the magic of Llansteffan remains. And if anything, over the years the community has become even more vibrant. Llansteffan, whilst still very Welsh in essence and character, is also very cosmopolitan in outlook, and a hub of social activities of varying intellectual natures!! Summer and winter the local community and various clubs and associations are always plotting some wondrous social event or another! Whether for a weekend or longer, why don't you make the effort to find that magic and spend some time here. It might be for quiet walks taking in the breathtaking beauty of our headlands and the variety of our wildlife, for a never to be forgotten BBQ on the pristine sands beneath the castle perhaps, or maybe just a general “chilling out” in the convivial village atmosphere. Whatever it may be Llansteffan has something to offer visitors of all ages and all outlooks.

“Comfy cottage in lovely setting”

Reviewed 19 Jul 2016

booked the cottage for a group of work colleagues based in Carmarthen for a few weeks. Its very comfortable, lots of space for relaxing, lovely sea views from some of the bedrooms, excellent location for beach walks.

“A heavenly hide out from the rat race”

Reviewed 11 Apr 2014

We've just returned after 4 days at Albion House Llansteffan with our 2 young children (3 and 5) The lovely owner Catrin greeted us and showed us around the gorgeous property which has been recently renovated - it's clean and bright and each room has its own quirky finish. We especially loved the downstairs layout and the gorgeous big bathroom! The kids played endless hide and seek. Albion House is right in the centre of the small village and just a short walk from the beach and castle. Day one we explored Llansteffan - lunch at the post office tearooms, a lovely walk up and around the castle and we were welcomed warmly by all the locals - such a happy and friendly community where everyone knows one another. Day 2 we enjoyed a full day at Folly Farm (40 min drive) where the entertainment was endless - happy and exhausted the kids went to sleep in the twin bed room while we enjoyed the complimentary bottle of wine in the snug room (and snuggly it was with comfy sofas and a flat screen telly) Day 3 we walked through the woods (kids were in heaven) to Scott's Bay on Catrin's recommendation where we had the entire beach to ourselves! and enjoyed kite flying, shell collecting and using our little fishing nets in all the pools - before we knew it it was almost time for tea - we jumped in the car and headed to Johnstown to the new bowling alley - brilliant!! We had a few games, enjoyed some nosh and headed home for another good night's sleep! We couldn't believe it when Day 4 arrived and it was time to leave but we managed to squeeze in a quick trip the main beach for a final sand castle session, bike ride along the long pathway and a quick play in the playground right on the beach. Llansteffan in April is a sleepy village but sleepy was just what the doctor ordered and we truly felt that we escaped the chaos of day to day life and fully re-charged our batteries. Can't recommend highly enough.
