Location description from owner

The Wales region

The Brecon Beacons National Park contains some of the UK's most stunning backdrops for walking, cycling and outdoor activities. Graced with great food and cosy pubs to just sit back and unwind. The nearby historic market towns of Hay-On-Wye, Brecon, Talgarth and Crickhowell offer ample chance for exploring with independent and boutique shops; theatre; cinema; sports; pubs; bars and eating establishments. The area is home to some fine agricultural land and as a result there is a range of excellent local produce and some fantastic restaurants. Of particular note are the Griffin Inn, Felinfach; the Three Horseshoes, Groessfordd; the Gliffaes county house near Crickhowell; and the Walnut Tree Inn, Abergavenny. Which have earned the area a couple of spots in the Times 50 best places to eat in the Countryside. There are also farm shops and farmers markets with the Welsh Venison centre in near-by Bwlch being a favourite. There is plenty to do all year round but the area really comes to life between May and September with the Hay Literature Festival, Brecon Jazz Festival, the Greenman Festival and the Royal Welsh Show (one of the best agricultural shows in the world).

Llangors

Llangorse is a short drive from Brecon, Crickhowell and Hay-On-Wye making it an excellent base to explore the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains. However, Llangorse is in its own right a great place to visit with watersports on the lake, the largest natural lake in South Wales; a near-by rope, activites and riding centre; two village pubs (four in the summer) and some great walks and cycle rides.

“Glass house set in the rural country”

Reviewed 6 Sep 2013

The Glass House had more than enough space it set in the middle of the beacons it had space in abundance. I recommend the RED KITE feeding centre as a must see you'll be blown away by these magnificent birds. If there's anything I would say is 1 TV to share with 2 teenagers didn't go down too well. But well tucked away so if its peace and quite your after this is the best place to be

“Beautiful house in beautiful area”

Reviewed 1 Oct 2011

We stayed at Ty Gwydr with 6 friends (4 couples) and it truly is a beautiful house fully equipped with everything we needed. We weren't blessed with the best of weather but were able to have two days in the lovely garden and certainly enjoyed all the local scenery and walks including a day at Brecon Show. We cooked most evenings in the well equipped kitchen and loved every minute and have no complaints whatsoever apart from the fact that we never totally got to grips with the entertainment system!!!! Couldn't work out how to get the stereo system to work in both rooms and also couldn't seem to get a simple TV programme. That aside, we loved the house and the village sampling the beers in both the village pubs and ate one night in The Castle who made us extremely welcome and the food was delicious. All in all we can thoroughly recommend Ty Gwydr although not sure how it would be in the depth of winter!!!

“What a fantastic experience”

Reviewed 9 Jun 2011

I stayed in in Ty Gwydr for a couple of nights only, but I was immensely impressed with place. Easy to find, but wonderfully tranquil, it is a very modern building with all the mod cons. Despite having a huge number of windows, it was warm and very cosy, and also very liveable and with a nice instinctive layout of rooms and the kitchen. The kitchen had a fabulous cooking surface, and the multiple fridges were very useful. The beds were incredibly comfortable. I particularly like the sheep in the fields right next to the house. The location was fantastic - beautiful countryside to walk through, easy to go to other towns from, and a brilliant little local pub very close. I would (and will) definitely come back.
