Our Park has some of the highest quality dark skies in the whole of the UK, making it the perfect destination for stargazers. There are loads of Events to enjoy stargazing - our entire National Park is an International Dark Sky Reserve. In 2012, we became just the fifth destination in the world (and the first in Wales) to be accredited.


Crickhowell is a small but beautiful town. There are lots of lovely places to eat or drink and some fantastic shops, all privately owned - no chains here, everything you need in life can be bought in Crickhowell.

The house backs on to a medieval castle ruin and there is a small children's play area in the grounds. There is a library in the town and many amazing walks or cycle routes on the doorstep and you can travel by foot, or hire bikes (which can be delivered to your door) or hire a canal boat and travel all the way along the canal to Brecon in one direction or Newport in the other.

"Fantastic rental for extended family - so good we wish we could buy it."

We stayed for 2 nights over the Rugby World Cup opening weekend (which was also during the Abergavenny Food Festival). Despite the greater-than-usual activity in the area, we still found the accommodation quiet with good accessibility. There was convenient private parking large enough for several cars. The host was very helpful with the booking, they were accommodating with our requests and kept us informed with the housekeeper's number, info on the area, etc. The house itself was perfect for an extended family of adults (9 in total). We rented the whole house and found that the multiple kitchens, bathrooms, and living areas was great for giving everyone their own space, but with enough room for us all to spend time together in the living area / garden of Flat 1. It was so nice to have access to the garden with the BBQ, which we did use. We also appreciated having numerous sets of keys (2 per flat) which meant smaller groups could come and go conveniently. The house had a wonderful warm feel from the minute you opened the door. It was immaculately clean and in great condition, and had everything you could possibly need for a self catering holiday. The kitchens were very well stocked with plates, utensils, cooking tools, etc - not just the basics, but enough to make a bigger complicated meal for the whole house in one kitchen. There were plenty of big cozy bath towels and lots of hooks to hang them on to dry. The beds were big and very comfortable. There were dishwashers and washer/dryers on each level, with soap provided so you could do dishes or a bit of laundry. We also absolutely loved the decor style. The local artwork (some of which was for sale) was also a really nice touch. Our only negative comment there was that we wished all the bedrooms had full-length mirrors in them. Crickhowell was a lovely village to walk around, with wonderful shops, pubs, and restaurants right down the street. Highly recommend the chocolate shop across the street, and the butcher shop up the road!

We rented the whole house for 2 nights during the start of August. The house was absolutely superb, it made our stay so easy. It has all you could possibly need and there is enough room for a big group!! The beds were super comfy, great location, free parking, wi-fi and welcoming Welsh Cakes We would defiantly stay again if in the area, highly recommend!!

"Wonderful holiday with family"

Mortimer House is beautifully presented, with stylish accessories and lovely art work. Each flat is very comfortable and appointed to a very high standard, all of which helped to make our stay very relaxing. There is great attention to detail, with Beth and Natasha extremely accommodating to our requests, and a delicious welcome pack of local provisions on arrival. We rented the whole house for a week, and it worked really well for each family to have their own space, yet being able to come together for some meals, the young children (aged 5, 2 and 1) to play or adults to get together in the evenings. The location is wonderful too; a large playground round the corner is excellent for children, and Crickhowell is a beautiful town and great base for exploring the Brecon Beacons and visiting local places. We would definitely like to return, knowing that we would have a very comfortable stay, and that as the children grow they would be able to enjoy a variety of different activities in the area.

"Beautiful property in perfent central location"

I stayed at Mortimer house with a group of friends and we hired the whole house. We could not have asked for more. The house is spotless with everything you need - towels, kitchen equipment etc. The house has been done to a very high quality and all 9 of us were so impressed. Natasha was very helpful in the lead up to us staying answering any questions and advice of different things. Have already recommended the house to others and am looking to go back again in the future. If you are looking for a high standard of accommodation in a central location then this is the place for you. With private off road parking, it is very convenient. Perfect!

"Beautiful house"

Mortimer House is even more cosy and beautiful than it looks online, and flexibly divided between three flats. Highly recommended for couples, families of groups of friends. 8 of us was perfect to fill the house but not feel cramped.

"Will definitely be returning"

14 of us stayed at Mortimer House for a week over the New Year period and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. We found the property to be of excellent quality with all the latest mod-cons with top quality furnishings and spotlessly clean. Mortimer House is spread out over 3 levels and can be hired as 3 separate apartments or as a whole which we did. When we arrived we were greeted by Beth who looks after the property and was most helpful. The house is situated on the High Street of Crickhowell and has its own car park one door away which had plenty of room for our 5 cars. Our group are keen walkers and found the climb up to Table Mountain well worth the hike for the spectacular view. For those who are less active there is a chocolate shop opposite and several pubs in the town as well as good shopping. Our booking was made via Natasha who was more than happy to accommodate all of our needs and requirements and was most prompt with our queries whilst booking. As a group we go away every New Year so have stayed in many properties but found this to be one of our best and all 10 adults said they would definitely return.

"Exceeded expectations - Must stay"

Mortimer House exceeded our expectations in many ways! We were a large group so hired out all 3 floors. Each and every one of us loved the house. I would definitely recommend Mortimer House to anyone looking to visit the area.   The décor was unique and quirky, we all went home with many interior design ideas! A lot of thought has gone into making the house a welcoming and a homely place to stay, the tiniest details were taken care of, from scented creams in the bathrooms to gift chocolates and food baskets for the guests. The house was fully equipped with all the essentials and more, including games, books and DVDs for the time spent inside - this was a great addition, especially for the children in our group.   The area is very scenic, with many places within walking distance, such as a castle behind the house. You can also find many attractions and activities in the wider area, the house has a large parking area if you plan to bring cars.   I’d like to thank Natasha and her housekeeper for making the house a very welcoming place to stay, their service was excellent, any questions we had in regards to our stay were answered immediately and they accommodated all of our requests.
