There is also a large choice of books and board games and a good range of children's books and games.

The hand-made painted kitchen has a granite worktop and stone flagged floor. There is an electric cooker with induction hob, a large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave, toaster and kettle, as well as all necessary crockery, cutlery, glassware and cooking utensils.

Upstairs there is a double bedroom with old pine furniture and wonderful views over the fields and a cosy twin bedroom which has lovely oak furniture and shutters to the window. Both bedrooms have crisp white bed linen and wall-mounted flat screen TVs. The bathroom is finished to a high specification, with contemporary fittings including free-standing wash bowl on a granite top, open spout taps, Mira shower over bath and slate floor tiles with underfloor heating. The bathroom overlooks the back of the cottage and has lovely views across the fields.

To the front of the holiday cottage there is a sunny, private patio with table and chairs and a BBQ for eating out during the summer (please note that the seating area is not enclosed, therefore, young children will need to be supervised). There is also a lovely bench directly outside the front of the cottage, ideal for you to sit and have your morning cup of tea!

All bedding and towels are provided and a welcome pack for adults, children and dogs is provided on arrival.

Tub Cottage is tucked quietly just off the main village street and only a short walk away from the local pub and shop. Parking is not available directly outside Tub Cottage as vehicular access is required to our neighbour's property at all times. However, guests are able to pull up outside the cottage to unload and load. There is plenty of parking in the village all within a short walk from Tub Cottage.

Ideally situated in the heart of the Peak District and within easy reach of the market towns of Buxton, Bakewell and Matlock. There is so much to do in the local area whether you want energetic activities or total relaxation. There are superb local walks that start from the front door of the cottage and pass through Tideswell Dale, Litton Mill, Cressbrook Dale, Millers Dale and the Monsal Trail.

We live locally, so can provide advice on a variety of activities including road and mountain biking, walking, and suggestions for family and dog friendly places to visit. Secure storage for bikes is available at the cottage and two mountain bikes are provided free of charge for the use of our guests. We also have two donkeys and several chickens and guests are welcome to come and meet them during their stay.

A warm welcome awaits you at Tub Cottage.

Location description from owner

The England region

Litton is a small community with 17th century pub and shop/Post Office run by local volunteers. It is in the beautiful Peak District, surrounded by fields and close to the popular Monsal Trail. The eastern end of the village overlooks Tansley Dale and Ravensdale, a National Nature Reserve popular with walkers.

Originally a lead-miners' village, Litton mostly comprises small cottages, though there are some fine large houses and many old buildings. In the eighteenth century it had a flourishing stocking making industry. In Litton Dale the remnants of an ancient medieval field system with long narrow fields, may still be seen.

Litton lies halfway between Bakewell and Buxton and one mile from Tideswell which has a bank, butchers, delicatessen/bakery and small supermarket, together with cafés, pubs and gift shop.

If you wish to use public transport, there is a regular bus service to surrounding villages as well as Bakewell, Buxton, Manchester and Sheffield. In addition, Hope Railway Station is only a few miles away and we can arrange pick up and drop off for guests on request.

“A beautiful cottage”

Reviewed 1 Oct 2016

We've just returned from a relaxing week at tub cottage, you will not be disappointed with this lovely, clean, beautifully renovated cottage set in the village of litton. The facilities were amazing and the owners have provided everything that you would ever need to use on holiday, even 2 pushbikes are available. We used it as a base to visit the stunning Peak District where we found loads of stunning walks with our dog. We've stayed in many holiday homes and this is def up there as a favourite.

Many thanks for your review and kind comments. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Tub Cottage and enjoyed some great walks in the area. It was lovely to meet the three of you and we look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Leonie, Eric and May
