“A wonderful, cosy, quiet retreat with everything laid on.”

Reviewed 22 Sep 2018

This was our first time in The Peak district and the central location in a quiet village was just perfect for all the exploring and walking that we did. To return to the Cottage after a full day out was great because you just knew that everything worked and the comfy chairs and bed beckoned to complete the experience. The comprehensive level of equipment, cleanliness, well thought out information folders and Simon's personal introduction and recommendations all made for a very good holiday.

Owner's reply: Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us and for your kind words. It was a pleasure to host you and we hope we will see you again one day. In the meantime, all the very best, Jill and Simon.

“A well equipped holiday cottage”

Reviewed 22 Sep 2018

Candlelight Cottage in Litton is a characteristic and well equipped holiday cottage. Owners Jill and Simon Wills did everything possible to make sure your stay is as comfortable as can be. We felt at home straight away. Litton is centrally located in the Peak District, which makes it easy to visit every part of that area. We would recommend a stay in this cottage and we're certainly planning to book again. Liduin and Rob the Netherlands

Owner's reply: Dear Liduin and Rob, It was a pleasure to meet you both. We are delighted that you want to come back again and we hope it will be soon. Heel hartelijk bedankt en tot ziens! Jill and Simon

“Very comfortable cottage in ideal location for exploring the dales”

Reviewed 16 Sep 2018

This is a lovely, comfortable cottage with every possible amenity provided! Litton village is an ideal location for exploring the nearby dales and beyond - there are plenty of great walks in the local area without the need for a car. There is an excellent pub - the Red Lion - directly across the green. We had a great time here, and have already booked to come back next year.

Owner's reply: Thanks for taking the time to write a review for us. It was great to meet you both and we look forward to seeing you again in August 2019. Until then, all the best, Simon and Jill.

“amazing find”

Reviewed 17 Jul 2018

The cottage was an amazing find in an area we did not know never having been to the Peak District before. Compact and cosy with a great welcome from the owners. Ideal for two for a few days away and the friendliness of the area means that we will be back in the near future. There is also an excellent fish and chip shop in the nearby village of Tideswell called Elliots

Owner's reply: Thank you for this lovely review. We're so pleased you enjoyed yourselves. The chippy in Tideswell is a Wills family favourite too!! Do come back and see us soon. Very best wishes, Simon and Jill.

“Anniversary break away”

Reviewed 18 May 2018

They say that repeat business is the best business. This is why we have already booked for 2019!! This is an outstanding cottage in an outstanding village with an outstanding pub. The tranquility is very special in any weather. Everything whether rain shine or tempest is available at this cottage. This includes maps for the walker since there are wonderful walks from the village. In fact you can quickly immerse yourself into village life. A wonderful stay and a special thank you to Simon and Jill for their kindness and for being so thoughtful We are already looking forward to 2019

Owner's reply: Dear Philip, Thank you for taking the time to write this lovely review. We are delighted you had such a good time and that you want to spend your next anniversary break at Candlelight Cottage too. We will look forward to seeing you again next May. In the meantime, all the very best, Simon and Jill.

“Return visit to this lovely cottage”

Reviewed 2 May 2018

After too long a gap we returned to this cottage for a second time. It was just as lovely as we remembered. Very well appointed and equipped we were cosy and comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. It is spotlessly clean and well situated for exploring the area. Simon and Jill are terrific hosts and we felt very well looked after. The welcome pack was a bonus too. All in all a tip top visit.

Owner's reply: Dear Alison and Colin, Thank you for taking the time to write this lovely review. It was great to have you back and we are delighted that you had such a good time. You are always welcome and we hope to see you again before too long! Very best wishes to you both, Simon and Jill.

“Brilliant”

Reviewed 15 Oct 2017

We have had a fantastic week in Candlelight Cottage. It was our first trip to the Peak District and we could not have chosen a better location for exploring the Peaks. The cottage has everything you could wish for and is really cosy and comfortable. The Red Lion opposite is great and the village shop very handy. We will certainly be returning to such a lovely "home from home"

Owner's reply: Thank you for this lovely review. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back sometime in the future. Very best wishes, Simon and Jill.

“Superb Derbyshire Cottage”

Reviewed 1 Oct 2017

Superb cottage, fully deserved the gold award rating. High quality furnishings and fittings obviously the result of immaculate attention to detail throughout, this includes the back yard with its plant pots and garden furniture. The welcome basket contained local products. I would thoroughly recommend a stay in this cottage.

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for this lovely review. It was a pleasure having you to stay and we're delighted you enjoyed the cottage. Hope to see you again one day. Until then, all the best from us both, Simon and Jill.

“Superb cottage”

Reviewed 5 Aug 2017

We have just returned from a weeks stay at Candlelight Cottage and have had a wonderful time. On arrival, Simon (the owner) put us at ease by taking us on a tour of the cottage and talking about its facilities. He was also very knowledgeable about the local area and there is an abundance of information and maps available for guests to use, a real benefit to us as we had never visited the area before. Having stayed in many self catering properties over the years, I can confidently say this was by far one of the best. The owners really have thought of everything! We will, I am sure, be returning to Candlelight Cottage.

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for taking the time to write this lovely review. You'll always be welcome back!

“100% satisfaction in every respect.”

Reviewed 9 Jul 2017

I strongly recommend you contact the delightful owners and book a holiday in this superb cottage where I have recently enjoyed a week's holiday. On first reading the owners' description we were a little sceptical, having stayed in other holiday lets similarly described. In this instance, we agreed the cottage was accurately described and maybe even understated! I was slightly nervous after reading of the unsuitability of the stairs for young children (I am 76 years old, have a back problem and have lived in a bungalow for the past 40 years) but there is a very sturdy handrail making them very safe. Within 24 hours I managed the stairs easily. I challenge even the most houseproud with OCD not to be satisfied with the cleanliness and comfort of this cottage and everything you could possibly wish for in a holiday home. The village is peaceful, welcoming to tourists and not commercialised - a refreshing change. This also applies to the surrounding villages. There are numerous walks from the cottage and easy access to National Trust, English Heritage and other interesting centres. All of which can be found in a folder in the cottage together with all other information you may need. We were fortunate enough to visit Bakewell on Carnival Day and Buxton for Well Dressing.

Owner's reply: Dear Anne, Thank you so much for this super review - our 50th 5 star review! It was a pleasure for us to have you to stay and we are delighted you had such a good time. In the hope of seeing you again soon, all good wishes, J and S.
