“Brilliant”

Reviewed 15 Oct 2017

We have had a fantastic week in Candlelight Cottage. It was our first trip to the Peak District and we could not have chosen a better location for exploring the Peaks. The cottage has everything you could wish for and is really cosy and comfortable. The Red Lion opposite is great and the village shop very handy. We will certainly be returning to such a lovely "home from home"

Owner's reply: Thank you for this lovely review. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back sometime in the future. Very best wishes, Simon and Jill.

“Superb Derbyshire Cottage”

Reviewed 1 Oct 2017

Superb cottage, fully deserved the gold award rating. High quality furnishings and fittings obviously the result of immaculate attention to detail throughout, this includes the back yard with its plant pots and garden furniture. The welcome basket contained local products. I would thoroughly recommend a stay in this cottage.

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for this lovely review. It was a pleasure having you to stay and we're delighted you enjoyed the cottage. Hope to see you again one day. Until then, all the best from us both, Simon and Jill.

“Superb cottage”

Reviewed 5 Aug 2017

We have just returned from a weeks stay at Candlelight Cottage and have had a wonderful time. On arrival, Simon (the owner) put us at ease by taking us on a tour of the cottage and talking about its facilities. He was also very knowledgeable about the local area and there is an abundance of information and maps available for guests to use, a real benefit to us as we had never visited the area before. Having stayed in many self catering properties over the years, I can confidently say this was by far one of the best. The owners really have thought of everything! We will, I am sure, be returning to Candlelight Cottage.

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for taking the time to write this lovely review. You'll always be welcome back!

“100% satisfaction in every respect.”

Reviewed 9 Jul 2017

I strongly recommend you contact the delightful owners and book a holiday in this superb cottage where I have recently enjoyed a week's holiday. On first reading the owners' description we were a little sceptical, having stayed in other holiday lets similarly described. In this instance, we agreed the cottage was accurately described and maybe even understated! I was slightly nervous after reading of the unsuitability of the stairs for young children (I am 76 years old, have a back problem and have lived in a bungalow for the past 40 years) but there is a very sturdy handrail making them very safe. Within 24 hours I managed the stairs easily. I challenge even the most houseproud with OCD not to be satisfied with the cleanliness and comfort of this cottage and everything you could possibly wish for in a holiday home. The village is peaceful, welcoming to tourists and not commercialised - a refreshing change. This also applies to the surrounding villages. There are numerous walks from the cottage and easy access to National Trust, English Heritage and other interesting centres. All of which can be found in a folder in the cottage together with all other information you may need. We were fortunate enough to visit Bakewell on Carnival Day and Buxton for Well Dressing.

Owner's reply: Dear Anne, Thank you so much for this super review - our 50th 5 star review! It was a pleasure for us to have you to stay and we are delighted you had such a good time. In the hope of seeing you again soon, all good wishes, J and S.

“Great cottage for exploring Peak District”

Reviewed 3 May 2017

We stayed at Candlelight cottage over the Easter weekend. Located in the pretty village of Litton with a lovely local pub (great food) the cottage is ideally positioned to explore the Peak District. The cottage was immaculate and very homely with lots of charm. Perfect for a family of 4. We especially enjoyed the local treats on arrival. The kitchen is well equipped to cook at home and the ability to pre order groceries on arrival from a local shop in nearby Tideswell was fantastic. The cottage has lots of information on the what to do in the Peak District and local walks. All the major villages and walks were within an easy drive and the downstairs laundry was ideal for hanging up coats and walking clothes. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning at some point in the future. Jill and Simon were fabulous hosts.

Owner's reply: Thank you for this lovely review. We're so glad you enjoyed the goodies from Tideswell and that you had a good time in the area. It's also great for us when guests comment on the cleanliness of Candlelight Cottage. It is something very close to our hearts and we take pride in leaving the cottage immaculate for each of our guests. We hope to see you again soon. All the very best, J and S.

“Warm and cosy cottage”

Reviewed 21 Mar 2017

Lovely cottage in an attractive and spacious village. Ideally situated for some beautiful walks from the door. The cottage is warm and cosy and beautifully presented with a lovely old aga and is spotlessly clean. It is fully equipped with everything we needed and more. Delicious scones and teabread in welcome pack. Simon was very friendly and welcoming on our arrival and we would definitely return if visiting that part of Derbyshire again.

Owner's reply: Thank you for this lovely review. We are so glad you enjoyed yourselves and hope to see you again one day. With all good wishes, Simon and Jill.

“Lovely cosy cottage in a perfect location.”

Reviewed 9 Jan 2017

The cottage is situated in the lovely village of Litton with a pub directly opposite. We had lovely walks from the doorstep so didn't need to use the car at all. Candlelight Cottage is very well equipped, cosy and warm. The AGA in the kitchen was an added bonus.

Owner's reply: Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us. We're glad you enjoyed all the various walks from the cottage and we hope to see you again one day.

“Lovely Cottage in Pretty village”

Reviewed 14 Oct 2016

Our second stay at Candlelight. High quality furnishings and everything provided that you could need (except food of course) Absolutely spotlessly clean and the owners are very friendly and helpful. Litton is a lovely village with the Red Lion Pub just across the green from the cottage. Food at the Red Lion is excellent. Great walks out of the door or a short drive. Easy stroll into Tideswell which has excellent Tea Shops etc. Looking forward to our next visit.

Owner's reply: Thanks for taking time to do a review Roger. It was great to have you back and we're really glad you enjoyed your stay again. Best wishes, J. and S.

“Lovely cottage in perfect setting”

Reviewed 16 Jul 2016

We stayed for a week in May and this was our first time in the Peak District. In summary we will be going back to Candelight Cottage for sure. The cottage has everything you could possibly need and we particualarly liked the enclosed garden at the back. Perfect to have a gin / wine after a long walk. The weather was also kind enough for us to have breakfast outside most days. It was extremely clean throughout. There is a pub immediatly opposite that is very traditional in a good way. A great pint and excellent food. The owners were friendly and attentive, just right. There are plenty of walks from the cottage so need to even use the car which is ideal. Great place to spend a relaxing week away from it all.

Owner's reply: Thank you for this lovely review Andrew. We look forward to seeing you both again soon.

“Fantastic cottage and location”

Reviewed 11 Aug 2013

We booked the cottage at fairly short notice for us and our two children (17 and 19). Everything was exactly as described and immaculate throughout. Loads of local information on everything from places to visit to walking routes. Children only with us a few days so whilst they were there we enjoyed good food, quad biking excellent place too, would definitely recommend http://www.wildparkleisure.co.uk) and a trip to Meadowhall for shopping. Rest of the week included Chatsworth, cycling and more good food. Would certainly recommend this place if you are thinking of booking, based on our experience.
