Walkers and dog owners will love the area around Riverside House, with not only the Monsal Trail easily accessible, there are walks to suit all abilities including a gentle river walk along the River Wye to Cressbrook or the gently sloping trail of Tideswell Dale to either Litton or Tideswell. The more adventurous may want to visit Peter's Stone a striking rock landmark or venture further afield to Monk's Dale, a lesser known but very beautiful walking gem.

We can sleep a maximum of up to 12 in four bedrooms: 9 + 3 (2 on a good, spacious sofa bed in the lounge, plus z-bed). We can, however sleep additional children on a chair bed (suitable for ages up to 4 years old) and there is a cot. Pets are welcome and are charged at £15 extra per pet. All heating, including logs for the log burning stove, linen and towels are included in the rental price.

We do welcome short breaks in all seasons except the Peak Season. Our changeover day in Peak Season is a Saturday, but in all other seasons we are flexible.

* Family friendly - we supply a cot plus bedding, stair gates (top and bottom of stairs), fire guard and high chair.

* Starter pack supplied includes supply of coffee, tea, sugar, milk, oil, salt and pepper, starter supply only of kitchen roll, loo roll, bin bags, about 5 of both washing machine and diswasher tabs, washing up liquid, hand soaps in all bathrooms.

* The garden and patio areas are completely fenced with wrought iron fencing and lockable gates to provide a child and pet friendly area in the warmer months

* Separate games room (above detached garage) with pool, table football, air hockey, PS2 and games, TV, fridge and music player (table tennis downstairs when garage not in use)

* Downstairs bedroom and bathroom suitable for mobility impaired guests

* Good selection of games and books for all ages, plus 3 TV's, PS2, DVD player and lots of DVDs

* Sky sports and films available to all guests on the main lounge surround sound TV, BT Sports also available

The downstairs area is very spacious with a very large lounge with a lovely vaulted ceiling. There is surround sound TV (with DVD, Sky TV channels with Sky Sports, BT sports and Films all in HD available as part of the package) in the lounge, a log burning stove (free supply of logs and kindling), plenty of seating for up to 12 guests, extra large double sofa bed, books, guides and maps. Now with underfloor heating in the kitchen and dining room. The downstairs double bedroom adjoins the lounge and has a TV and DVD/video system and additional seating. An entrance hall includes ample coat and boot storage with the utility off the hall with washing machine, separate dryer and overhead clothes dryer. The downstairs bathroom includes wc, sink and large shower cubicle with a small step up (could be suitable for mobility impaired guests).

The dining area has a large table and seating for up to 10. There is the possibility of joining the kitchen and dining tables together to give seating for 12+. There are lots of board games for all ages in the dining area. The kitchen is spacious and extremely well equipped with everything you need for a self catering holiday. There is seating in the kitchen for up to 8 plus a high chair. The large range cooker has a double oven and lots of cooking rings for large meals. There are two fridges, a freezer, microwave, large toaster and even cook books. Free wi-fi access is provided too.

The whole of the downstairs area is suitable for pets and families as the flooring is tiled in most areas and wooden flooring in the lounge. We ask that pets are kept downstairs and they are not allowed to go on the furniture.

Upstairs there are three further bedrooms, two doubles (one en suite and with a link attached king-size bed which can be either king-size or 2 singles for flexibility) and a triple room with three single beds. There is an additional family bathroom, with bath, shower cubicle, wc and sink. We supply a cot, z-bed, single child bed (suitable for child up to four years only) and inflatable bed. We also provide stair gates (top and bottom of stairs), hairdryers in all bedrooms, plenty of wardrobe and clothes storage space, mirrors in all bedrooms, bedside lamps for all beds and all linen and towels are included in the price.

The kitchen leads out to the enclosed lawned garden area with is safe for both pets and young children. There is a paved patio area with outdoor seating for up to 15. We supply a BBQ for the summer months. Beyond the enclosed garden is the wild river area with spectacular river views and wildlife. Brown trout, ducks, wild birds, rare lizards and newts are all on the doorstep. There is off street parking for two cars and a detached garage for two further cars. Above the garage is the games room with its own separate entrance and again securely fenced for the safety of young children.

The England region

The Peak District National Park is the oldest in England and contains some of the best countryside and walking in England. From limestone crags and gorges to lovely open valleys and riverside walks there is something for everyone. In the summer it can be warm and sunny, but it is England so do expect rain and in the winter even snow. Places of interest include Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Tideswell's Cathedral in the Peak, Chesterfield's 'Crooked Spire' as well as Crich Tramway Village and the Plague Town of Eyam.

Litton Mill

Litton Mill is in Miller's Dale in the heart of the Peak District National Park. Fabulous walking includes river walks along the River Wye, walking and cycling on the disused railway line above Riverside House on the Monsal Trail (the tunnels are now open and there is bike hire along the route - would thoroughly recommend this - we even hired the electric bikes!), walking the dales and limestone gorges nearby as well as wildlife and wildflowers aplenty. There are plenty of lovely local pubs serving traditional English beers and food.

Nearby is the historic Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall (both used as film sets for period dramas), the market town of Bakewell (famous for Bakewell puddings) and the spa town of Buxton. Accessible within one hours drive is Sheffield and its city shopping facilities, within 40 mins drive is Chesterfield with its market and shops and closer to home Tideswell with its famous cathedral and lovely deli, cafe and pubs.

For more adventurous guests there is rock climbing, fishing (not at the house), hang gliding, horse riding, caving and golf all nearby as well as harder graded walking from Hathersage and Edale.

Every June and July the area welcome the famous well dressing festivals where locals decorate the wells with fresh flowers designs. In Tideswell wakes week there is a carnival and midnight procession (around third week in June).

There are farmer's markets in Buxton, Bakewell, Chesterfield and food and beer festivals at various times throughout the year. Buxton's Pavilion Gardens often has craft fairs taking place.

“Wonderful base for a family get-together”

This is our second stay at Riverside and the house is wonderfully equipped for a group of friends or extended family with 4 bedrooms, three bathrooms and the opportunity for the lounge to be converted to another bedroom. Plenty of dining space too which makes the house ideal for a group stay. The games rooms with pool and table tennis cap it off for a fun stay. The location is fantastic with a river at the foot of the garden (fenced off so children cannot fall in it) and walks a plenty either from the doorstep or a short drive away. Two pubs a short walk away and plenty of others round-about means it's not all self catering!

We have stayed at Riverside twice with our extended family from 70 through to 1 and once with several other couples. One of the bedrooms on the ground floor is ideal for disabled people. We love the location deep in a beautiful limestone valley with immediate walks and cycle rides outside the door. The house itself is large and generously organised with a huge amount of kitchen equipment, board games, DVDs, maps & local guides. The four bedrooms are all spacious and the downstairs is huge. We have been made to feel very welcome by both the owner and the caretaker. This is high standard accommodation, ideal for a countrside holiday as it is not over the top.

I can't say enough good things about this house. Every single thing we needed was catered for (and some things we never even thought of!) Kitchen extremely well equipped and loads of space - more than enough to make it feel like there weren't 12 adults in the house (which there were) Front room was stunning - and all the equipment was there for us to make our own log fires - which, since we arrived in snow, made everything even cosier. 3 bathrooms - so never any issues with people waiting to use them. The showers were lovely and powerful, could have stayed in there all day! Hired the house for my birthday weekend and everything from the house itsself to the location (in a beautiful area with plenty of outdoorsy things to do) was perfect. There's also a completely separate games room which we didn't use, but imagine would be a great place for kids/teenagers to get out of the way of the parents if you were hiring the house for a family gathering. Great communication from the owner - and fantastic value. Everyone said it was the best weekend we'd had in ages, and we will definitely look at returning.

“Peak District perfection!”

We (my friends and I) have spent a week at Riverside House each January since 2012 as part of an annual catch up. Each time I return it's like coming home. The house itself is located in the peaceful and picturesque Litton Mill, which is ideally situated for walkers. Sainsburys deliver groceries to the address and the marvellous Red Lion pub in Litton, which serves delicious home-cooked food is a pleasant 30 minute walk away (or 5 min drive). The accommodation is spacious, immaculately clean and finished to a very high standard. The house is exceptionally well equipped, both in terms of the kitchen and board games and other forms of entertainment (including a vast games room above the double garage that all kids will love). There is ample off road parking (for upto 5 cars). We have already booked for 2016 and I cannot recommend this cottage highly enough if you're seeking a luxurious, warm and family-friendly home-from-home in the Peak District.

The best UK holiday home we have stayed in. Spacious rooms, great for a large party. Situated right on the river and the Monsal trail. Great for walks in beautiful surroundings. Handy for Chatsworth, Buxton and Bakewell. Kids loved the expansive games room. More board games available than I have ever seen. Difficult to fault in any way - would highly recommend.

Stayed at Riverside House with My family and friends for a short half week break. The location, in a beautiful and peaceful Dale next to the Monsal Trail, was perfect. The house was packed with features such as a large games room and large choice of board games and DVDs which the kids loved. The kitchen was fully kitted out and the lounge with log burner and big TV was a wow. The bedrooms were comfortable and the whole place cleaned and well maintained. We shall certainly return again.

House well equipped to deal with the 9 of us plus 2 dogs. Lovely walks from the house. Handy for Chatsworth House, Buxton, Bakewell and Matlock. The games room is a brilliant addition and kept the children amused. The numerous board games came in handy when it rained. Peaceful location.

We rented Riverside house for one whole week, with 6 adults and 1 young child. We all loved it. While we were there we hosted a family gathering for 15 people (not everyone slept there though) and everyone had a great time. Loads of room, never felt crowded. I would definitely recommend this property for a family holiday.

Having just spent a weekend at the cottage I couldn't recommend it enough. It was spacious, very well equiped with modern appliances and in a wonderful location. The owner was also very helpful both in providing instructions on how to get to and into the cottage and had given careful attention to detail. Upon arrival some of the party were able to have tea and coffee as things were available which was a relief as our Tesco deliver order didn't arrive until into the evening! Would definitely recommend it. Hope to return one day.

If you are looking for a peaceful country idyll this could be the place for you. We had a restful post-daughter's wedding stay with 6 friends (eight of us in all) in this spacious ,clean and very well-equipped house. The house is ideally situated for visiting Chatsworth House and other stately homes in the area, also there are countless tea rooms, pubs etc. which would be worth seeing. If the weather isn't great there is an abundance of board games as well as a separate games room. The only noise we could detect was the river running by and songbirds singing in the evening and the dawn chorus warbling in the morning. A little bit of heaven for us city dwellers, why don't you treat yourselves ? We're glad we did.
