Little Walden

Saffron Walden is a quintessential English market town in North West Essex. It has medieval roots and is part of a designated conservation area with examples of architecture from the 12th Century including many timber framed houses and relief plastering in evidence. Nearby is Audley End, an extravagant Jacobean property now run by English Heritage. Market days are Tuesday and Saturdays. Saffron Walden is well served with restaurants, coffee shops, antique shops and general stores. There are two supermarkets.
Cambridge is a must if you are visiting the area and is 12 miles away. You will need a car at Burntwood End but the Park and Rides around Cambridge will help you to visit the city easily.
We are on the borders of Cambridgeshire, Essex and Suffolk so you will be able to visit numerous attractive towns and villages. Several properties owned and managed by English Heritage and the National trust are within a two hour drive for excursions.
Many of our guests take the train to London to visit the attractions there. Easily done from Audley End Train Station. Visitors from abroad may obtain cheaper rail and bus travel if booking before you leave home. National Express has cost saving tickets to many destinations.

“Lovely spot and helpful owners”

Reviewed 21 Sep 2016

We had a great long weekend at Bentwood End Barn. It is an idyllic location and very comfortable and well equipped. The local pub serves good food. The owners were really helpful and a bonus was being able to share some of the bounty from their garden.

“Beautiful location”

Reviewed 26 Jan 2013

We loved staying near Saffron Walden - a lovely area and very under estimated with lots of eateries. Nice walks from the door and helpful owners next door. A very picturesque setting.

Thank you. So pleased you enjoyed your stay. You are right - North Essex and Saffron Walden has lots going for it and plenty to do even in Winter.
