The England region

Little Petherick

The rugged beauty of North Cornwall has long been the inspiration for many writers and the backdrop to many famous films, such as Poldark and the Doc Martin series with its fishing villages of Port Isaac, Port Quinn and Padstow.A beautiful part of Cornwall that has much to offer, from the spectacular coast, historic Houses and Gardens, to galleries, world renowned restaurants, and a choice of activities including surfing, golf, sailing and horse riding. The picturesque fishing port of Padstow, home of the famous 'Obby Oss,' has a host of galleries, gourmet restaurants and tearooms amongst its winding streets and has plenty of attractions to visit, from the historic Elizabethan grandeur of Prideaux place, set in its own deer park, to the national lobster hatchery, and the Padstow Museum.Enjoy a game of crazy golf, with the best views over the harbour, or hire a cycle and follow the scenic Camel Trail as it winds along bedside the estuary to Wadebridge and Bodmin.A variety of boat trips depart regularly from the harbour offering pleasure cruises, speed boat rides, fishing trips and a ferry to Rock, a well-known water sport and sailing resort, and the location of the prestigious St Enodoc golf course. The market town of Wadebridge is 8 miles away, with small individual shops, and a farmers market on Thursdays. Close by is the lovely historic house and gardens of Pencarrow, well worth a visit, or enjoy a short tour and wine-tasting at the award winning Camel valley vineyards. The Crealy adventure park (2 miles) is a popular day out for the younger guests, and for the energetic, there are numerous activities to enjoy: riding stables at St Merryn, golf at the champion course at Trevose, surfing and coasteering from Harlyn Bay.There are many lovely sandy surfing beaches within 3-7 miles, Trevone, Harlyn Bay, Booby's, Tregirls, Treyarnon and Porthcothan Bay, most offering wetsuit/board hire and surfing lessons.

“Lovely bungalow, great location”

Reviewed 28 May 2014

Byways is a lovely well equipped, home from home holiday property with a beautiful maintained garden and large patio area, overlooking countryside, yet only a few miles from Padstow and local beaches. We were welcomed with a cream tea and fresh flowers. The owners Roger and Jane were friendly and very helpful. We had a very enjoyable holiday together with good weather, made it perfect. We would certainly return to Byways.

“Lovely cottage - spacious, bright and welcoming”

Reviewed 22 Apr 2014

A beautiful cottage with all the necessary amenities. We enjoyed our stay here. It is also very near to the beaches and the harbour cities. The owner Jane is very helpful and provided us information on places we could visit. We will definitely book this place again and recommend to our family and friends.

“Perfect holiday accommodation”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2013

Byways is a lovely holiday property on the edge of a quiet village in a beautiful part of Cornwall; close to Padstow and Wadebridge. It is well laid out, comfortable, light and airy and is more of a home than a holiday let with lots of personal touches. It has a beautifully maintained garden and a good size patio. Everything is 'user friendly'. The owners Jane and Roger are friendly, helpful and willing to share knowledge of the local area, but are not intrusive. A stay here is relaxing and enjoyable irrespective of variable Cornish weather! It's so good, we've been returning again and again for over 20 years.
