With wonderful country views, this charming stone cottage is set in 1.5 acres of secluded gardens & attached to the owner's house. Chester's fort on Hadrian's Wall has the remains of the finest military bath house in Britain and is just a 10 minute drive. Just a little further are the major forts of Vindolanda, Housesteads and Sycamore Gap near Steel Rigg, a lonely tree standing in a dip along the Wall. Location description from owner

The England region

Northumberland is the most Northerly County in England and a land of great historical significance. Over the centuries, numerous wars have affected its sovereignty and its boundaries and principal territories have changed ownership many times between Scotland and England. Northumberland is a county of castles, fortresses and offers outstanding interest to visitors. Staying at The Bothy offers a difference and allows visitors to get a cultural feel and association with the locale that no hotel or guesthouse can truly provide. The town of Alnwick, which is within easy reach is probably one of the county's most impressive castles. It is located in the very centre of the community and dates back to medieval times. It was also used and featured in the production of the Harry Potter film series. Morpeth, Corbridge and Hexham are county towns of Northumberland with their own historical appeal and no visitor to the county can afford to ignore the Holy Island attraction of Lindisfarne which is a monastic centre, castle and location of the first recorded Viking attack on England. Buses are used to transport visitors to and from the island via the causeway, tides and English weather permitting.Lastly there is nearby Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site. Hadrian's Wall (Latin: Vallum Aelium) was a defensive fortification in Roman Britain, begun in AD 122 during the rule of emperor Hadrian. In addition to its military role, gates through the wall served as customs posts. A significant portion of the wall still exists and can be followed on foot along the Hadrian's Wall Path. It is the most popular tourist attraction in Northern England and was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. The Bothy is only 10 minutes drive from The Wall.
