Location description from owner
The England region
Northumberland is the most Northerly County in England and a land of great historical significance. Over the centuries, numerous wars have affected its sovereignty and its boundaries and principal territories have changed ownership many times between Scotland and England. Northumberland is a county of castles, fortresses and offers outstanding interest to visitors. Staying at The Bothy offers a difference and allows visitors to get a cultural feel and association with the locale that no hotel or guesthouse can truly provide. The town of Alnwick, which is within easy reach is probably one of the county's most impressive castles. It is located in the very centre of the community and dates back to medieval times. It was also used and featured in the production of the Harry Potter film series. Morpeth, Corbridge and Hexham are county towns of Northumberland with their own historical appeal and no visitor to the county can afford to ignore the Holy Island attraction of Lindisfarne which is a monastic centre, castle and location of the first recorded Viking attack on England. Buses are used to transport visitors to and from the island via the causeway, tides and English weather permitting.
Lastly there is nearby Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site. Hadrian's Wall (Latin: Vallum Aelium) was a defensive fortification in Roman Britain, begun in AD 122 during the rule of emperor Hadrian. In addition to its military role, gates through the wall served as customs posts. A significant portion of the wall still exists and can be followed on foot along the Hadrian's Wall Path. It is the most popular tourist attraction in Northern England and was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. The Bothy is only 10 minutes drive from The Wall.

“Home from home”
We immediately felt at home. It look a little while to unwind from our long drive north, but we quickly relaxed watching the birds feeding outside the window. The cottage had everything we needed. The kitchen was small, but big enough for two people; with all the crockery and utensils required. We loved the view from the kitchen in the morning, overlooking the sheep in the fields. We slept well. The bed was very comfortable and being out in the countryside it was so dark. We had forgotten what it is like not to have street lights. We found the cottage well located in Northumberland, with reasonable driving times to Kielder, Hadrian's wall, the coast and only half an hour to Newcastle. We loved our stay and we are hoping to returning in the summer.
We thank you for taking the time to leave a lovely review and comments, they are much appreciated. We are also so pleased you found The Bothy "a home from home". We look forward to seeing you both again ( and the dogs ). Kindest Regards Keith & Christine.
“Wonderfully peaceful retreat”
The cottage was lovely and cosy in a peaceful location with beautiful views. Ideal for exploring the area and coast. We felt completely relaxed and renewed by our stay. We were made most welcome by our hosts and loved the wine left for us.
Thank you for your kind and positive review. We hope we see you both again in the future. Kindest Regards Keith and Christine
