Location description from owner

The Central Portugal region

Alfama is the oldest neighborhood in Europe after El Pópulo in Cadiz. It's like a small village, standing as a time capsule to the years before Lisbon was destroyed by the 1755 earthquake, as it remained standing thanks to its rock-solid foundations. Put away your map and wander aimlessly through its "becos" (alleys) and "largos" (small squares), allowing your senses to be the guides.

You'll see magnificent river views and laundry out to dry from balconies, smell fish being grilled in a corner, hear the sounds of Fado coming out of a restaurant, taste authentic traditional meals, and touch some dazzling tilework. Set in a visually stunning hill that extends to the neighborhood of Graça, this is Lisbon at its most picturesque and the very soul of the city.

Life here continues much as it has for centuries, but walk down towards the river and you're once again in modern times: old warehouses have been renovated and turned into some of the city's coolest hotspots, from DeliDelux for brunch to Bica do Sapato for dinner, and Lux for drinks and dancing until sunrise

Lisbon

The apartment is situated in Campo de Santa Clara, where stands the impressive church of Santa Engrácia (National Pantheon) and also where the famous flea market, a market of second-hand articles, takes place every 3rd and Saturday. One step away is Alfama, the most typical and genuine neighbourhood of Lisbon. The perfect starting point to explore the city. Here, you're within walking distance of sights such as the viewpoints of the Portas do Sol and Graça; Castelo de São Jorge, the Fado Museum, cafes, craft shops and the nearby neighborhoods of Baixa, Chiado, Bairro Alto and Prìncipe Real.

“much better than expected”

Reviewed 11 Apr 2014

When two of my friends and I booked the apartmant a few weeks ago we were not really spending a lot of time searching for one, we just wanted to have a nice place to sleep and hang around:) so let s say we chose it more accidently than on purpose...but well what a good choice it was!! The apartmant looked good on the pics, so we expected a slightly worser apartmant in reality, but we were totally wrong....it s at least as good as on the pics of it!! A few things that were a big plus of it: - the view: just amazing - the bed: we slept like a baby:) - a very clean apartmant was waiting for us with all the equipment (utensils) you need - it s very close to the metro, u can get anywhere you want in a few minutes Overall on a scale of 10 it s at least a 9 considering the price of it (the only thing that is maybe missing is the elevator)
