The Estremadura region

Lisbon is a city to visit all year round. With mild temperatures in winter and warm in summer. You'll also find an abundance of history and culture.

The highlights are:

- Monesteiro dos Jeronimos in Belem

- Alfama district / Castelo Sao Jorge

- No 28 Tram

- Graca and it's marvelous viewpoints.

- Nightlife in Bairro Alto , with its great bars, restaurants and clubs

- Museu Calouste Gulbenkian, Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga and Museu Nacional do Azulejo

- Parque das Nacoes with Europe's largest Oceanarium and other family-friendly entertainment .

Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and is on the Atlantic coast. It lies on the steep hills on the north bank of the river Tagus (Rio Tejo). Its proximity to the coast makes it an ideal choice for both sightseeing and sunbathing.

There are many wonderful areas outside Lisbon that are easy to get to and make a lovely day trip, such as Estoril and Cascais, Costa de Caparica including Arrabida and Setubal, Sintra and Mafra and the wine area of Colares.

Lisbon

Within walking distance from the apartment you have the Feira da Ladra, Alfama, Graca and The Castle .

10 mins walk to the metro Santa Apolonia where you can catch the train to Sintra to visit it's wonderful palaces or Setubal to eat the freshest fish and seafood. Should you want to visit Lisbon's beaches, catch the train at Cais de Sodre and get off at one of the many beaches along the Cascais line (journey approx 35 minutes).

June is a great time to visit if you want to experience the Festival of Santo Antonio when the Alfama doesn't sleep but you can!

“Well located for city, well equipped, with a lovely view from the roof terrace.”

Reviewed 13 Oct 2015

The apartment is well situated for local transport and access to the city and whilst it is on quite a steep slope to get to it, it is worth it for the roof terrace and the fabulous view. Everything is supplied in the way of kitchen equipment etc. The only downside is the street is quite noisy at night time if you are sleeping at that side of the apartment. Otherwise, it is good value for money, very comfortable and we very much enjoyed our visit.

Thank you and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay.

“comfortable and well situated”

Reviewed 26 Aug 2015

The apartment was very well situated and only a short walk from nearby shops. The metro station was at the bottom of the street, but it was only a 20 minute walk into town! The apartment was well equipped and the perfect size for our party of 4, allthough there is room for another couple of people. We found the beds really comfy, and the terrace was very pretty and provided us with good sea views. It was a nice quiet area and we felt safe there considering it was our first independant holiday. I stayed at this apartment two years ago with family, and liked it so much I decided to return, this time with my friends.

So glad you enjoyed yourselves and your first independent trip was a success. The world's your oyster.

“Agréable et super terrasse sur les toits.”

Terrasse sur les toits très agréable. Génial pour les enfants. La gare Santa Apolónia n'est pas très loin et dessert bien Lisbonne.

Thank you. Im glad you enjoyed your time in Lisbon.

“Nice stay”

Reviewed 5 Jun 2014

My wife and I travelled with our 2 kids, aged 6 and 4. With kids of that age it was a bit challenging to discover Lisbon. We had to walk a lot, and the kids were tired. But as soon as we were back to the flat they were feeling good again, like being at home. They were playing at the very nice terrace at the back. For them it was like paradise. That terrace made a big difference with other places ! At the end, i would easily recommend this flat. Nothing to complain about really. small shops, restaurants, and tube are not far away. We had a nice stay.

Glad you enjoyed yourselves.

“Lovely apartment, good location”

Reviewed 28 Mar 2014

We all had a lovely holiday staying at Fiona's apartment. It was great to have the garden area as well. The kids especially enjoyed the hammock! There are local shops to get your groceries and the metro station is only a 5 minute walk away. Will definitely go back.

Thank you for your comments and glad you enjoyed your stay.

“Traditional area, great views from the garden, away from tourist areas but within easy reach.”

Reviewed 23 Feb 2014

Enjoyed our trip to Lisbon and found the apartment in a a traditional area quiet and welcoming. Found our way from the apartment easily - up or downhill to access metro/bus and No 28 tram. Garden was a bonus with great views and hammock for relaxing. Didn't eat outside, but imagine it would be amazing for alfresco dining in warmer months. Enjoyed relaxing in the living room where kids watched DVD after a long day sightseeing. Dining/kitchen area very spacious and well equipped. Everything you need close by, local shops, supermarket, cafes and restaurants.

Glad you enjoyed yourselves.

“A comfortable stay away from the tourist crowds.”

Reviewed 7 Apr 2013

Fiona's apartment offers space and homeliness for Lisbon visitors who want to stay just outside the touristy areas - close enough to public transport and far enough to feel like a local! Due to wet weather we could not make use of the garden but this would be a definite bonus on a hot summers night. Our 5-year old had a great time watching the world go by from the balcony and the kids' bunker bed is a definite winner! In all good value for your money.

So pleased you enjoyed your time in Lisbon. Next time I hope you get a bit more sun to enjoy the garden. June is a great time with all the parties of Santo Antonio. Thanks again.

“A great flat with wonderful views over the Tage from the secret garden”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2012

From the outside the building looks like many others in Graça area, but once inside you realise why the flat is so highly rated. There are nice views from the balconies at the front of the building but what really makes the flat special is the 'secret' garden leading off the kitchen/breakfast room at the back. From here there are wonderful views over the Tage and the sorrounding rooftops. The garden is ideal for snacks/meals or even for just dozing ih the hamac! The flat is also very well-equipped and clean. I really can't imagine anything better. We already knew Lisbon quite well and didn't really need help, but Fiona's neighbour downstairs is on hand for advice if need be. Although the actual building has a lift it's half-way up a steep street so is perhaps not very adapted for the elderly or those with walking diffiuclties. However it's easy to find a taxi. Ohterwise the metro or bus/tramway is about a ten minute walk . There are lots of little shops and typical cafés and bars to discover in this less tourisity areas. All in all, a great find

I'm so glad you enjoyed your holiday. You're making me have "saudades" talking about the garden and the hammock.

“excellent and quiet apartment with greta view on the river Taag in non-tourist area; ideal to discover Lisbon”

Reviewed 4 Aug 2012

The apartment is an excellent starting point to discover Lisbon. The apartment is quiet, comfortable and the large garden/terrace has a great view on the river, and is a great place to read, dine and wine. The location is perfect for those who (like us) do not like a poshy neighborhood or who prefer to stay outside areas which are tourist traps. Area is a local community, with many small shops. Transport (metro, tram, etc.) is nearby. Taxi's (cheap in Lisbon) are always around and available. Some historical districts are within walking distance. One point of attention. This part of Lisbon is hilly and the apartment is on very steep road.

Thank you very much. So glad you enjoyed your stay.

“off the beaten track, just, lovely taste of lisbon life”

Reviewed 6 Jun 2012

quirky apartment, great use of space, garden a massive plus. lovely to be just that bit away from the tourist trail (but just beside it). short walk to the train. not for tiny babies, but great for families.

Thank you for your comments and very pleased that you enjoyed your time there.
