It is extremely quiet because there is almost no traffic
This colourful, exciting area has many pubs, restaurants and trendy cafes. You will find traditional fish & chip shops alongside a huge variety of ethnic food. If you want to update your wardrobe, you can find the latest trends on the market stalls or browse in upscale boutiques. Take a 10 minute stroll and you will be in the middle of leafy Chiado with its theatres, restaurants and glittering shops.
This attractive neighbourhood (named "Royal Prince" in honour of Queen Maria II's first born) extends north of Bairro Alto and although it was once only known for its antique shops and gay bars, it's now slowly becoming a serious shopping area.
Despite that, it remains essentially a residential district, filled with gardens, a couple of the city's most tranquil squares, and colourful mansions.
The abundant charm has turned it into one of the most sought-after areas to live in the city, and real estate companies have taken notice. Old buildings are being renovated, a young population is moving in, and there's talk of gentrification similar to that of Georgetown in Washington DC after the company that turned that district into the American capitals hippest began acquiring buildings here. Down the hill is the small neighbourhood of São Bento, known for the
neoclassical Parliament building and more antique shops down Rua de São Bento.
Take tram 28 , so very close , and discover the various Lisboas to know , because Lisbon is the city of seven hills and each hill districts have very typical and distinct where you can walk ... The true spirit parochial , and in the end, you can rest in our apartments ... Come on down to Baixa !
This script should be started in Terreiro do Paço Real, where from 1511 settled D. Manuel I, the Fortunate, so called because it had the good fortune to collect the fruits of labor and vision of the kings who preceded him, especially one who offered him the throne, his brother and first cousin D. João II . Fortunate but not so much because he saw his only dying man - Prince D. Afonso.
Arriving at the Square (Terreiro do Paço), Martinho da Arcada go to one of the oldest cafes of Lisbon , founded in 1782 , sitting there watching the Tagus while having a spout go reeling events and notable figures who sat here , the most will be celebrated Fernando Pessoa, who almost made office here , envisioning the dreams of a new empire for Portugal , the " Fifth " called by the natural order that preceded the Greek , the Roman , Christianity and Europe , which incorporated the dream of another large Portuguese language Father António Vieira .
This Jesuit created in Brazil, where he died in 1697 at the ripe age of 89 years in São Salvador da Bahia, left the famous sermons, that there to represent the best that the English literature of the time has been important in the defense of libel rights of indigenous peoples, the pulpit protest launched against slavery and mistreatment of the Indians, who at the time did not position earned him many friends among the powerful.
Flawlessly us the vision of the future Fifth Empire based in Portuguese and in their affections, multi - continental vision magnified so melancholic soul of a people. And everything else ... The Chiado has long been the meeting place for artists and intellectuals until the early nineteenth century quarters of the twentieth century. In off Camões where the bust of the poet long contemplates generations of young people here are being mainly in the evenings from 5th to Saturday, meeting place for early " invasion " of the Bairro Alto for dinner , drinking glasses or dance . Here you can also visit churches, take a " Bica " ( name given by the Lisboans espresso ) on the Brazilian side of Fernando Pessoa, Rua Garret roam around and enter the Church of the Martyrs and Rua do Carmo retrieved from the great fire of the eighties that almost all destroyed .
Here is the most exclusive and expensive city , the shops where a more sophisticated bourgeoisie that wants to see and purchase sophisticated lives , trying to give a bohemian air as baste ... and much more to see ... Alfama is the soul of Lisbon, where smells of the city and the history of our people , sailors , singers , Marialvas , pirates , traders , slavers , aristocrats , artists, bohemians , Jews , new Christians , Moors , crucible where it mixes races, cultures knowledge smells and colors . The Patriarchal Cathedral church of nationality where the first King Afonso Henriques in the mid- twelfth century battles between Moors , battles with her mother , turned mosque in place of Christian worship. St. Anthony, who has his church right next to the Cathedral, where on June 13 (day of San Antonio) celebrates the marriages of St. Anthony .

"Great location and super apartment."
The few issues we had with the place had nothing to do with the apartment nor with the location, but rather with some false advertising on Booking.com. The advert claimed to offer 24 hour front desk service, but such a thing does not exist there. Instead, when we got there we encountered a locked door in a building clearly under renovation. We had gotten no e-mail to explain how to get the keys and since the advert promised 24 hour desk service, we didn't think we needed any. We had to pack out my computer and find the number for the owner who answered after a few calls and sent someone with keys within 20 minutes. This was a pretty nerve-wrecking experience since we knew there's some scamming going around with these apartments. Simply removing the false advertising and sending an e-mail telling you to call them in advance to let you know when you arrive, would be really helpful and would feel so much more safe for the guests. There was also no daily maid service, but we hadn't expected one and didn't want one anyway so that's just another unnecessary false advertising. The same goes for private beach area, garden and sun terrace (the latter might be somewhere but I'd not be able to tell you how to get there). Other than that the apartment was absolutely fine, with all accommodations necessary for 3 people or two couples (for four people, ask them for an extra bed and blanket unless you don't mind spooning on the 1½ person sleeping couch, they will get it done promptly). There was even a decent hair-drier and a dish washer! Shopping, dining, metro and clubbing is just nearby, and the area Rato is generally close to all sorts of sights, nice pastelarias and gardens. The personnel speaks great English and was very helpful the few times we needed to call. This would have definitely been a 5 if it wasn't for the disappointing and unnecessary false advertising. Advice: Call in advance to let them know when you're coming, and if the water is cold it's merely due to the circulation system which requires you to let it run for some time if it hasn't been used.
Thank you very much for your stay and for your comments. As I told you the site where I made the reservation it is he who wants the contents or the pictures, and as for hotels, apartments and rooms work, and it has been very difficult to manage expectations, because the picture that goes in the contract is a apartment. But I think that in time this site will evolve into apartments. But actually what varies is the decoration in the apartments. Thank you very much and Good 2014 and come back
