The Sicily region
Sicily is the largest island of Italy and of the Mediterranean sea. It is famous for its beautiful beaches, cuisine, and fascinating history.
The climate, ever dominated by the winds, highlights the nature of this archipelago with air, water, earth and fire. Why not allow yourself the direct fascinating experience of an intense blue sea, clear crystalline rocks against a backdrop rich in flora and fauna, ranging from the pebble beaches and thin black sand, contrasted by gigantic sharp rock faces that rise sheer from the sea and are hosts to caverns and sea caves, especially when illuminated by glorious sunsets and dawns?
The beauty and characteristics of these seven sisters varies from island to island. In order of size they are Lipari, Salina, Vulcano, Panarea, Stromboli, Filicudi and Alicudi.
Perhaps you yearn with an eye to adventure for a mysterious and, perhaps romantic, destination for an historic 'last frontier' unspoiled, as yet, by intense tourism, within an agreeable Mediterranean setting? Try to imagine an Archipelago, within the Mediterranean sea, that has been inhabited continuously since before recorded history that has been the site of ancient (even before Greek and Roman times) and modern battles of historical moment and record.
Consider, for a moment, an area that derives its name from a Greek identity celebrated in Homer's Odessey. Ponder upon the existence of an ancient local church that has known Christianity for some 1800 years; first evangelized by Greek Byzantine monks and hermits and still redundant with the locality names and devotions that they established.
Take note of the site of one of the richest and most important Archaeological museums that continuously grows as more ancient local sites are discovered. Imagine a group of islands which still manifest their volcanic origins, especially by the activity of one inhabited volcano that has been constantly active during recorded history, is dubbed the 'lighthouse of the Mediterranean and which is easily accessible to the visitor.
Yes, such a fascinating group, composed of seven islands that enjoy an ideal climate varying strictly between 10 - 30 deg. centigrade and located in a sparkling transparent sea, just off the North-East coast of Sicily (The ancient 'Greator Greece') does exist. These 'seven sisters' bear the name of the Aeolian Islands. Eolus, the Greek god of the winds, was reputed by the ancients to have made his abode first on the ever-active volcanic island of Stromboli (derived from the Greek word 'strongyle' - 'the round one.' Homer celebrated both him and Stromboli in the 10th. book of the 'Odessey.'

"Central Apartment, Cheap, Clean."
Felice who is renting the apartment is a pleasure to do business with. Amenable, friendly and on hand should be there be any issues. My partner and I experienced a very good week on Lipari. The apartment is centrally located just on a side street off the bustling Main Street on Lipari. The ports are both very close for easy access to boat trips, and the beach just a fifteen minute bus ride away at Cannetto. The restaurants, and eateries are all local. Lipari is the best base to visit all the Islands, including Stromboli, Volcano, Filicudi, Alicudi, and Panerea and Salina. We did all the islands, each has its own special magic. The apartment has a small kitchen and bathroom, basic, but all that's required. It was a little noisy on a Saturday night, but that was fine, as you are in the funky area of the island and in the heart of Lipari's amazing Baroque architecture. We loved Lipari, and were blown away by the buzz of such a small remote place.
wonderful guests; they were very friendly and communicative and a pleasure to deal with. Best of all they took great care of my studio apartment and were very respectful of my place. I really enjoyed meeting them and are both welcome back anytime. I highly recommend them to any host. Thank-you.
