Location description from owner

The England region

Our grounds are scattered with various Cherry, pear, apple & plum trees that have all been named after the caring people that have brought them for us. You will see so many varieties of wild growing berries along with Rhubarb and flower pots bursting with seasonal flowers that are placed outside all of our properties. We stamp each property here at Lincoln Retreat with the spirit you feel as soon as you drive through the entrance. Our grounds are a natural wildlife habitat and don't be surprised if your out for a walk along the scenic trails we have around here that you'll spot a deer following you. There is no noise around here apart from the wildlife and the sound of laughter from holidaymakers that visit us.

Lincoln

Within a 5 minute walk from the rear of our properties you will find a breathtaking woodland area where you can soak up the serenity of a secret place called Boultham Mere

The reserve lies within the City of Lincoln but it is a comparatively quiet and secluded sanctuary. It was excavated as a source of ballast for the construction of the railway. It has since matured into a most attractive lake with beds of reed and sedge, and emergent vegetation. There are mature trees and shrubs, mainly willow and sallow, flanking the railway. A hide overlooks the mere to the west of the reserve.

The reserve attracts many wintering wildfowl, including teal, shoveler, goosander and goldeneye. There are also many breeding birds, including up to 20 pairs of both reed and sedge warblers, two pairs of great crested grebes and three pairs of little grebes. Kingfisher and common tern also breed on the reserve.

The reserve and adjoining drain are rich in dragonflies and damselflies with 12 species regularly recorded. Many butterflies may be seen in summer, including orange tip, ringlet, large skipper, meadow brown and wall brown. Flowering plants of interest include lesser water-plantain and water-violet.
