The sun shines here throughout much of the year - we have known it to be 24° centigrade in the January. There is a full sized golf course (with an excellent bistro and top-class restaurant) less than half an hours' drive away on the Limoux side of Carcassonne. The nearest ski slope is at Camurac about 1 hour away, with Les Angles, Pyrenees 2000 and Andorra easily accessible for a day's skiing. The Cathar castles are wonderful at any time of year, and a visit to the Mediterranean sea is always stimulating. There are good art galleries in Toulouse, Ceret and Sigean, and the famous carnival of Limoux lasts for 13 weeks staring in january. Of course, there is always the wine of the region to sample, and especially Blanquette of Limoux, the 'original' champagne. Recently our local mountain - the Pic de Bugarach - has been headlined worldwide. It is a wonderful place, and easily climbable.

“Our advice would be 'look elsewhere'.”

Reviewed 18 Mar 2014

We stayed here for one week in February 2014. Unfortunately it was not a pleasant one. Firstly the property was in deperate need of a 'good' clean. We found hairs and food debris in cutlery drawers, scum and hairs around the bath, dead flies on the carpets, we spent part of our holiday cleaning in an attempt to make the house more habitable. The kitchen was basic and depressing, flaking paint on the walls, no windows and a smelled very bad. The bedroom above the kitchen also had the same smell, whether it was the drains or not, we were not sure, one thing we were sure of is that you couldn't sleep in there. The property was advertised as having a television, cd player and wifi availability, none of thee were available when we were there. We have stayed in many properties of a similar price in France and this is the first property we would definately not recommend. Our advice would be 'look elsewhere'.

Obviously we were upset that the client wasn't happy with the house, and offered them a free week later in the year as compensation as it seemed that they would be returning to the area. However, lack of further evidence of state of cleanliness and assurance from the experienced and trusted cleaner that the house had been thoroughly cleaned before arrival, it was concluded that the objective of the client was to get a cheap holiday when they further demanded a full compensation despite only booking for two people but demanding and using the facilities for four. Plus complaining about wifi not available when then stayed even though there was no wifi at time of their booking for which the price reflected. The offer of the free week is still available to them, damage deposit was returned in full, but no compensation was given. Unfortunately as a result of this client, a cheaper rate for couples is no longer available. There is now Wifi connected and Smart TV We have not received any further complaints from guests since this client.
