Location description from owner

The Italian Riviera region

LIGURIA (North/West-Italy) is one of the most beautiful parts of Italy and the mediterian sea. Liguria jammed getween the sea and alpine mountains has two parts. The first called the PONENTE reaches from the french border to economic and cutural center GENOVA (the hometown of Christopher Columbus) with its internalional habour and its famous museums. The eastern part of LIGURIA the so called LEVANTE stretches from GENOVA via CINQUE TERRE to LA SPEZIA and the boarder of TUSCANY. Especially in the NATIONAL PARK AND WORLD LANDSCAPE HERITAGE CINQUE TERRE the combination of the sea and high mountains is culminating a fascinating narrow coastal strip with high rocks, wide sea, picturesque old towns, tiny harbours, wine yards high over the sea and typical Ligurian food, which ist distinguished by the products of the sea and the mountians.

Levanto

LEVANTO, the door to the CINQUE TERRE, ist a small Italian town with normal daily life an not only a tourist museum, nice little shops, restaurants and bars in all categories, a daily market with fish and vegetables, a wide beach, a tennisground, marina, diving and sailing scool and hiking and mountainbike tracks, cycle track along the coast - and very important Levanto is easy accessible by car. In Levanto the coastal road from GENOVA finishes and in the villages of Cinque Terre (Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola und Riomaggiore) private cars are not allowed and there are even no parkings on the access roads. So You have to hike, take the boat or the train. From Levanto it is only a 5 minutes ride by train that give You access to the UNESCO world landscape Heritage Cinque Terre and the train ticket pays the entrance fee for the national Park. So You will easily experiance the protectet sea and great landsacpe and move between sea and sky. Even directly from our house you can directly enter the hiking network of CINQUE TERRE by using the pilgrim path from the middle ages the the monestry SOVIORE.
