This is a real treat! This cottage is a bargain with prices staying the same for 3 years. The location is stunning - with views over olive groves and within a stone's throw of the picturesque Gulf of Kalloni. Seashell Cottage is well equipped and comfortable accommodation for 4 people plus one child on an extra bed. It has recently had a new roof and the outside areas extended. Although the Island of Lesvos has been in the news because of the migrant crisis this is not now the case. This rural area of the island remained untouched and the rest of the island has recovered.

Seashell Cottage is located in one of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas of Greece, where you can go the whole holiday only hearing Greek spoken and the beaches are never crowded even in the height of summer. It is perfect for walking, birdwatching or just relaxing, although Lesvos as a whole has a wealth of things to do. The sunsets over the Gulf in our opinion rival those in Santorini and to swim in the sea at the end of the lane (just a couple of hundred metres from the house) in water that feels like silk with the sun going down is a memory you will cherish forever! The airconditioned accommodation is recently refurbished with large kitchen area, attractive patio on which alfresco dining is a pleasure and 2 bedrooms (2 x single, 1 x double with a pull out bed). The kitchen has a full sized cooker, washing machine and fridge and is comfortably equipped with everything you will need for an enjoyable stay. The property is excellently managed to a high standard.

Further details indoors

The property is tiled throughout with airconditioning which makes it cool even when the temperature soars outside. There are also mosquito netting windows that will allow a free passage of air without the annoying wildlife! And with the sea being so close a cooling dip is always possible. Interior facilities are comfortable, modern and non-fussy, with all new appliances after recent modernisation. Air conditioning or heating all included in the bargain price! Extra childs bed on site. You are welcome to bring your own DVDs to play and there is a small selection at the property in English. Although the property is not staffed, our agent lives close by and will help in the event of any problems. Wifi is available at the local Tavernas.

Further details outdoors

There is parking for a number of cars inside this gated property, with a well shaded patio. There are a number of fruit and olive trees on the property. Although you can only glimpse the sea through the trees the sea is so close it's just a short stroll down the track You can bathe and then go home for a shower at the house. There are 5 bicycles at the property and the ride along the Gulf of Kalloni to the Taverna is just stunning - and is flat!

Location description from owner

Northeast Aegean Islands region

Lesvos has many other attractions being the third biggest Greek Island including the Petrified Forest and its museum to the west, which explores the volcanic nature of the Greek Islands (on the way spot the Methymneos Winery - open for tours). Agiassos is a village worth visiting, where it feels that time has stood still, and is totally untouched by tourism. Molyvos and Petra are a drive worth making to the North. Molyvos has many bars and an impressive castle that dominates the landscape, with magnificent views across the straits to Turkey. Petra has a good beach with watersports and a fabulous monastery perched on top of a rock that overlooks the town.It is also worth spending some time in Mytilene. Mylilene is the captial of Lesvos and this is where the airport and ferries to other islands and Turkey dock. It is a cosmopolitan city catering for all of the Islands needs. It has the Teriade Museum (the collection of Theopilos Teriade), this noteworthy art collection has been left to the people of Lesvos and works include Chagall, Picasso and many more. Just outside Mytilene is a Roman aqueduct at Moria which has a whole section virtually intact. Mytilene has all the facilities that could be needed and a vibrant seafront full of cafes and restaurants.Lesvos is well known for its olive oil production and produces some of the finest ouzo in Greece. A visit to Plomari and a tour of the Barbaryani Ouzo factory are not only interesting but you can sample their different varieties for free. Plomari also has a wonderful beach as does Vatera which has a beach 6 kms long.

Lesbos

Seashell Cottage is located in it's own grounds 150 metres from the sea in an idyllic setting amongst olive groves, on the peaceful Gulf of Kalloni. The cottage is walking distance from the sandy blue-flagged beach of Nyfida, backed by shady tamarisk trees. This area of Lesvos is very unspoiled and untouched by mass tourism that spoils many other Greek islands. Nyfida has tavernas (with free wi-fi) next to the sea, selling excellent local dishes, particularly seafood caught in the Gulf. Equidistant is nearby is Skala Polichnitos, where you can see the fish landed and then eat it on the quay. The town of Polichnitos is 3 kilometres away which has year round facilities including a hospital, pharmacies, banks, bakery, fruit and grocery shops, tackle shops and numerous tavernas. Polichnitos is also famous for its spa where it is possible to bathe in natural hot springs and have a relaxing massage. There are good connections to Kalloni which has supermarkets and a greater selection of shopping opportunities. There is a bus service to Polichnitos and Mytelene, however this is sporadic so a car would be necessary. It is a short drive - 8 kilometres - to Vatera which has a larger selection of tavernas and water sports (although windsurfing and kitesurfing are popular at Nyfida) and arguably the best beach on Lesvos, with the remains of the ancient temple to Dionysos on the point. It is said that the Greek troops on the way to Troy made camp here. Vatera has a childrens playground, and tavernas with bouncy castles in the sea, making the area ideal for families with young children. Another good beach is Agios Isodoros at Plomari, a picturesque town about 45 minutes away. Snorkelling is a treat on Lesvos with crysal clear blue water and abundant sealife. With Lesvos being the third largest Greek Island it means that there are many more opportunities for things to do beyond the beach. Seashell Cottage is ideally situated for birding being just 3 kilometres from the saltpans at Skala Polichnitos and the Kalloni Saltpans slightly further up the coast. These areas are world renowned for their birding possibilities particularly during the migration seasons. Information on birdwatching and walking (which is also excellent on the island) is available at the cottage.
