Description

The salon of the Manoir epitomises French elegance with painted panelling, wood floors and antique furniture. There are plenty of sofas to relax in and the lovely stone fireplace provides the focal point of the room. A series of French doors lead onto the garden terrace where you can enjoy eating alfresco and watch the beautiful sunsets over the river.

The large kitchen leads from the salon and has recently been completely redone with natural chestnut cupboards, two larders and polished stone worktops. It is superbly equipped to make life at the stove as stress free as possible with two ovens, two dishwashers and three fridges and has a large dining area leading through french doors onto the garden terrace with beautiful views over the river valley.

From the kitchen you enter the hall and then the kids' room with TV again leading to the terrace.

The bedrooms are charming, prettily decorated and full of character. The two main double rooms have fabric covering

From the kitchen you enter the hall and then the kids' room with TV again leading to the terrace.

The bedrooms are charming, prettily decorated and full of character. The two main double rooms have fabric covering on the walls and are both en suite whilst the large twin has a further sitting room through its bathroom. Two staircases at either end of the corridor allow a degree of peace with children being able to come and go when they like.

The rear of the corridor leads out onto the courtyard which used to be the original square of the village. Josephine Baker's husband had a restaurant here which now is a games room with pool and table tennis and is a great venue for frivolity and completely self contained. Steps to the side will bring you back round to the garden.

The swimming pool is at the side of the garden, has plenty of chaise longues and looks down over the valley. There is a large lime tree in the garden which makes the ideal shade to have a snooze after a few glasses of wine at lunch.

Further details outdoors

Main terrace - Indian Ocean teak table with umbrella and chairs to seat ten.

Location description from owner

The Dordogne region

Conveniently located near to the enchanting Perigord Noir towns of Sarlat, Domme and Les Eyzies, Les Milandes is ideally located to explore the regions' wealth of history and culture. Famous for gastronomic specialties including foie gras and truffles, the region boasts an array of vineyards, the fruits of which can be sampled in one of the many enjoyable restaurants nearby. Alternatively, the area is ripe for relaxation with the river banks to enjoy, quaint villages to discover and the impressive chateaux that line the banks of the Dordogne River to explore.

Sarlat itself must one of the medieval "gems" of Europe. Enjoy a coffee in the Place in Sarlat and imagine yourself transported back in time. It now enjoys good shops, several excellent restaurants and is lovely to just explore as around every corner you will find another sight to take your breath away.

Les Milandes

The Chateau des Milandes overlooks the Dordogne river and was home to Josephine Baker. She awed Paris with her flamboyant revues in the first half of the twentieth century and later moved to Les Milandes where she famously adopted twelve children known as the "Rainbow Tribe". The Chateau now features an exhibition to her extraordinary life as well as parkland and formal French gardens. Well worth a visit, there are also falconry displays and a small restaurant.

Spend a day meandering down the river passing magnificent medieval castles, old stone bridges and breathtaking scenery - it's really lovely and you can enjoy a picnic on its banks.

You can also partake in a variety of outdoor activities including ballooning and flying, canoeing, caves, cycling, fishing, golf, markets, riding, tennis and vineyards.
