Location description from owner

The Rhône-Alpes region

Chamonix is the perfect holiday destination for any season! You'll be surprised at the size of this alpine mountain town and the amount it has to offer you. Chamonix sits at the foot of Mont Blanc in the heart of the French Alps, displaying glaciers and breathtaking views of the snow capped mountains all around.

The skiing in Chamonix has a reputation for steep unforgiving runs, and there is enough on-piste challenge to provide a work-out for even the most advanced skiers. There is also plenty of skiing for the intermediate skier, enormous off-piste potential and some of the best ski touring in the world.

Historic Chamonix is a cosmopolitan town full of life and incredible scenery. In addition to the Ski season for which it is famous, there are hundreds of shops, countless restaurants, bars, clubs and a casino. There is also the sports centre with indoor and outdoor pools, ice rink, rock climbing, paragliding, water rafting, mountain bike trails and an 18 hole golf course. There's always plenty to do for the children too. Chamonix also has a the highest cable car in Europe to take you to the top of Mont Blanc and the Montenvers train to visit the Sea of Ice glacier and ice grotto. Plus cinema, Alpine Museum and a local market on Saturday morning - selling a wide range of local produce.

With a huge range of on and off mountain activities, there is something for everyone throughout the year. Chamonix is a place you'll want to come back to time and time again!

Les Houches

Alpinism, or mountaineering, was invented in Chamonix in 1760 by a swiss naturist called Horace Benedict de Saussure. His challenge to anyone willing to attempt it, was to climb Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe with it's peak at 4,808m / 15,774 ft. Until then, no-one had thought of climbing mountains for fun. The challenge was finally accomplished 26 years later in 1786, by Jacques Balmat & Dr Paccard. A statue celebrating their success stands in Place Balmat today.

Alpinism became hugely popular amongst the Victorian middle-classes in England and across Europe, with Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix being formed in 1821 and the first ever winter olympics being held here in 1924. Today, Chamonix has around 10,000 permanent inhabitants, with a further 30,000 visiting in the winter, and 60,000 people in resort during the summer months, and has around 5 million visitors per year.

Situated at 4555'8?N, 651'55?E, Chamonix is an hour's drive from Geneva, and the Chamonix valley runs from northeast to southwest, with Mont Blanc (4,808m) towering over the southeast, and Le Brevant (2525m) on the northwest. The valley is made up of a number of hamlets including Le Tour (1,462m) at the top of the valley, through Argentiere (1,252m), Les Praz (1,060m), Chamonix (1,035m), Les Bossons (1,012m) & Les Houches (796m). The valleys is connect to Martigny in Switzerland via the Col de Montets (1,461m) and is an hour drive from the Swis ski resort of Verbier.

“Outstanding accommodation with stunning views”

Reviewed 11 Sep 2014

The chalet is located in Les Houches, just a 10 minute drive from Chamonix. It is a peaceful location with stunning views. It had good local supermarket and some very nice restaurants within walking distance. There was plenty to keep our young children occupied, in particular the Merlot Nature Reserve, the summer luge and the ice grotto. ChamonixAllYear were very friendly and helpful and we had a truly memorable holiday.

Thank you for your lovely review of your stay at Chalet Anelie. We're glad that you were able to make the most of everything that Chamonix & Les Houches have to offer in the summer, and hope that we'll see you back again soon. - Chamonix All Year team

“Chalet Anelie in Les Houches was perfect!”

Reviewed 8 Aug 2013

The location was fantastic, we where right under Mont Blanc. The view is breathtaking. The property is excellent and huuuuuuuuge. The bathes were Spa level. The house is right over Les Houches, just 5 mins by car from Chamonix. Someone was waiting for us when we came. The guys were easy to reach on the phone and helped us all they could. We plan to go there again for sure.

Thank you for your lovely review of Chalet Anelie, we're delighted to hear how much you enjoyed your stay there. We look forward to seeing you again soon! - Chamonix All Year Team

“Great vacation, great chalet, very helpful team at Chamonix All Year”

Reviewed 6 Feb 2013

We had a great vacation at Chalet Anelie with my wife, 3 kids and 5 friends. The chalet was beautiful, with floor heating and magnificent views of the value and the mountains. The chalet was very well equiped and felt very cosy. Only issue is the small access road to the chalet and the main road beyond, which are both very steep and get very icy. We had some major issue getting our car to and from the chalet at times. The team at Chamonix All Year was very helpful and responsive despite a range of requests I made before our stay. Some of the items they offer are pretty pricey, but the convenience is great. We had a lot of travelers coming in at different times and several changes during the stay but they managed the logistics well, even if they had to reach out to other transportation companies.

Thank you for your lovely review of Chalet Anelie, we're glad that you enjoyed your time there and the amazing views. We were also pleased that you enjoyed the extra services that we arranged for you. The chalet is indeed at the top of a steep hill, as described in the information we sent you, which is why we recommend 4x4s equipped with snow chains. We have 2 of our own minibuses for transfers and also work with a range of other partners in the Chamonix valley to ensure that we can provide for all of our guests' needs. We hope we can welcome you into Chamonix again in the near future. -The Chamonix All Year Team
