Great holiday in Chalet Penot. Lovely authentic atmosphere but with all mod cons that made for a wonderful holiday. would definitely go again.

“Comfortable chalet stay in a”

Reviewed 27 Dec 2015

Don't expect golden taps or marble floors but this chalet offers a great place to stay with your (extended) family. The rooms are not really spacious but they beat the average "Val Thorens shoe boxes" by more than a nose length. The kitchen and living room are well equipped. The ski storage room, with shoe heatings, offers plenty of space for all your gear. The balcony, be it a bit narrow, offers a nice place to work on your tan. Ski busses stop in the direct neighborhood and bring you to one of the most cosy and friendly ski resorts in France with plenty connections to Morzine, Avoriaz and Switzerland.

“Great ski chalet for families”

Reviewed 25 Feb 2014

Just back from a great week in Chalet La Penote. Chalet perfect for 4 families - teenagers enjoyed a bit a of space to themselves in great bunk-rooms, and the grown-ups enjoyed recovering from the days exertions sitting by the fire and watching winter Olympics on the comfy sofas. Very good accommodation, warm and cosy, well equipped kitchen, and peaceful setting above Les Gets with fabulous views. Sitting 17 around the dinner table is a squash, but we managed it! Portes de Soleil is a huge ski area - local skiing on Mont Chery and in Les Gets works well from the chalet, but if you're keen to cover the miles and spend time in Avoriaz and Switzerland, a car is a must (we parked in Argent - highly recommended).

“A charming chalet away from the hustle and bustle but close enough to the lifts”

Reviewed 25 Apr 2013

A spacious chalet with a lovely ambience. Only a short walk to the shops (5 minutes) and similar distance to the lifts. Can nearly ski in ski out, although the ski in is not for beginners! A very relaxing stay on the quiet side of the valley.

“Big space cosy feel - the perfect place for getting everyone together and also taking time out”

How to accommodate 4 mums and 10 boys aged 10-23? Perfectly in Chalet La Penote! 7 bedrooms split across 2 floors with the living area floor mercifully in between, the mums were afforded the luxury of comfy double beds and private bathrooms whilst the boys could run riot/ shoot videos/ spend all day in bed boozing (the over 18s of course) out of earshot in their downstairs lair. And for when we felt like facing each other for breakfast, dinner and games the combined living and dining area offered ample opportunity for sitting round feasting (on the gorgeously prepared dinners brought in by our neighbours), TV watching, play fighting and group hugging. Although don't be tempted to jump off the balcony however deep and inviting the snow. Unless you weigh less than 7 stone (Bert, Joe) or your name is Oli and you are a loony. Or you want to bust your nose. My first time skiing so I can't comment with any authority on Les Gets as a ski resort. However, organising ski hire, lift passes and instructions was easy if expensive. Drinking beer and mulled wine was even easier, if more expensive (7 euros a pint of guinness!). Everyone else in my group loved the skiing and my boys (both novices) were hurtling down black runs within days - they couldn't get enough. I, on the other hand, was petrified of snow slopes and aggressive ski lifts that flattened you if you'd had a couple of 'dutch courage' tipples at lunchtime, so the last couple of days I took to walking and found peace amongst the foresty bits. Wouldn't mind returning to enjoy cycling or trekking the mountains when the speed merchants have packed away their blades. Having said that, where in the UK could you go at 4pm on a cold February afternoon for live music and a buzzing atmosphere? Brilliant. Even my boys (who spend most of their lives tucked up in coffin bedrooms) commented on the beauty of the area and how Chalet La Penote provided the ideal place for getting everyone (some of who were strangers beforehand) together for a blast. Deffo do this again. But with one less skier.

“Great chalet, excellent position”

Lovely traditional chalet with large open fire in the spacious lounge. Unique position on Mont Chery with stunning views overlooking Lets Gets and the valley below.

“We had a great ski holiday in chalet la penote”

Reviewed 18 Jan 2013

Had an amazing stay in Chalet LaPenote, the accommodation was warm and cosy, plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. The views are fantastic and it is only about 10 minutes walk into Les Gets. We skied in and out everyday of our holiday as the snow was good, putting our skis on outside the front door and skiing a few minutes down the road to the main runs. The ski runs this side of the mountains are really quite which we all enjoyed. I would love to come here in the summer to enjoy the French alps in the summer and do some cycling. this is great accommodation for a family group or friends who want to relax and enjoy each others company.

“Views galore, slopes on the doorstep and peaceful nights sleep!”

Reviewed 17 Jan 2013

We stayed with a group of friends and slept in one of the downstairs rooms. The rooms are comfy, welcoming and warm with all that you need for an enjoyable holiday. We slept so well and were pleased at how peaceful it is here as well as having good access to the slopes(we skied on and off the mountain from just outside the chalet every day) and the charming town of les gets. Everything was spot on and we would definitely recommend chalet la penote as a great holiday base.

“Perfect self-catering accomodation for cycling, skiing or chilling in the Alps”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2012

Chalet La Penote was fantastic! The views from the windows and balconies were amazing. We'd expected a late summer break with the last of the summer sun, but the weather changed abruptly shortly before we travelled and instead we enjoyed walking, sledging and later in the week once the snow had gone, cycling. The accomodation is arranged over three floors, with bedrooms on the top floor and the ground floor and living rooms on the middle floor. This would be ideal either for large groups, where you can 'meet in the middle' for relaxing and dining etc, or in our case we only used the 4 bedrooms on the top floor and the living area - but didn't feel like we were 'rattling around'. It was well equipped with everything you needed for self-catering, including, most importantly, a variety of different coffee making facilities! We'd recommend hiring the bed-linen and towels - it was great to have a shower and tumble straight into bed when we arrived. Not all of the restaurants etc were open as it was out of season, but we found the Tourist Office in Les Gets very helpful in supplying a list of those that were open. We had a car so were able to travel freely between the local resorts and explore the area. We look forward to returning in the ski-season and hopefully for some cycling in the summer. Definitely recommended.

“A great Chalet in Les Gets”

Reviewed 12 Jul 2012

"After much research for a chalet in Les Gets we chose Chalet Le Penote. It was reasonably priced, close enough to the main town of Les Gets (15mins walk in the summer) but far enough away to get great views over the valley and to be private. It turned out that we were in fact the first guests to stay there! We were not disappointed! A great living room/dining room space. Three sofas and a huge table for eating with views over the valley. Also a balcony outside looking down over Les Gets in the distance. Also a small balcony on the top floor. The kitchen was well equipped for both cooking and washing up. The bedrooms were decorated to a high standard and had nice boutique hotel touches without losing the Alpine rustic feel. I've stayed in many chalets over the past twenty years both in Europe and Canada and it was up there in terms of quality, comfort and value. We only occupied the top two floors so can't talk about the lower level but if its of the same standard of the top two floors it will be great. We would recommend it to friends and I'll return for sure!"
