Location description from owner

The Grand Massif region

THE GRAND MASSIF, 5 GREAT DESTINATIONS WITH 265KM OF ENJOYMENT ON YOUR DOORSTEP!

The Grand Massif is the 4th largest ski-linked area in France. It has a total of 265km of pistes and rises up to an altitude of 2500m. Surrounded by beautiful scenery, the Grand Massif affords a truly breath-taking panoramic view of the French side of the Mont Blanc mountain range.

The 5 linked resorts - Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoëns and Sixt - are set in remarkably diverse, yet complementary locations. Altitude resorts, ski-in ski-out resorts, car-free village and village resorts; each offering amazingly quick access to the Grand Massif's 144 pistes.

Les Esserts, France

Its two distinct villages linked by a high speed gondola, means you can choose your preference: the traditional village at 700m clustered around its 16th century church or the Esserts ski-in ski-out hamlet at 1100m (where our apartment is based).
Just for you, the lovely descents through snow covered fir trees... You´re in Morillon!

A village resort with a perennial alpine and pastoral tradition. Morillon is the perfect place to enjoy relaxed snowsports with the whole family, in welcoming and authentic natural surroundings.

Among the 72 pistes of the Grand Massif, Marvel, the beautiful green run is a must for those who wish to combine the pleasure of skiing with the discovery of local fauna, as explained on the information boards along the edge of the piste.
This is a paradise for children... where parents can ski with peace of mind, with or without their children. Morillon is gentle, white, and full of fun.

“Excellently situated apartment”

Reviewed 8 Mar 2016

Apartment was in very central location and close of amenities and almost ski to door. It is not a large apartment but perfectly adequate for two people. Amazing what they have fitted into the space. Very well equipped, however WIFI would have been desirable. You need to bring own bedding and towels (although apparently it can be hired). This is fine but would have been helpful to have a bath mat and tea towel or being told to bring. There is a process of self cleaning the apartment - this is fine but should have been reflected in a reduced price. Also requirement to post key by signed delivery. There are very few amenities, one shop, one restaurant and one bar. No cashpoint! Lovely resort but very quiet - very family orientated Snow chains a must if snowing

Hi thanks for your comments, feedback is always appreciated. For those considering a trip to Morillon 1100 can I just point out that there are actually 4 restaurants open during the ski season in the evening - The Oak Barrel Pub (bar and restaurant), Etoile Neige, La Combe and L'Beu (not so easy to find as it is a short walk up the Sairon slope). There is a cash point in Morillon village which can be reached via the gondola should the ski slopes to the village not be open. I will certainly ensure in future I point out that "bring your own linen" includes tea towel and bath mat although both of these are available to buy at Sherpa for around €3 if you can't fit them in. Regarding WIFI it is something we have looked into but the costs can be huge if download limits are exceeded, so for now this has proved not to be practical. The apartment is 36 square metres which is large compared to some in the Alps. With two bedrooms four is a comfortable number but six can certainly be accommodated. Regarding price I benchmark against charges made by Peak Retreats to ensure we are competitive.

“Great location - very functional and cosy”

Reviewed 25 Feb 2016

Stayed with two young children Februrary 2016. We have stayed in Morillon before but first time in this apartment. We love the location as it's great for the Patisserie and 'Sherpa shop' first thing in the morning, It's really close for getting to the ski lifts, especially if you use the guys in 'Skiset - ski hire' (Steve & Baptiste) and have a ski locker. Not very far for the early morning trudge with ski's to the lifts. It is brilliant to be able to pop back for for lunch and even has a shortcut direct of the Marvel run, almost ski to the door when snow permits. Otherwise it's its a few minutes from the slope. The apartment isn't big but it is very well laid out and has a really cosy feel to it. We felt at home for the week and had no trouble getting in each others way. It was very nice to have separate bedrooms so that if someone wants to go to bed later or wakes up earlier, no one is disturbed. The apartment is kitted out very well and was nice to have a well equipped kitchen with sharp knives and good pots/pans etc. Everything is very functional. The view from the apartment is very good, looking directly across Les Esserts so you can always have a good idea of the weather. Overall great value for money and a real homely feel and exceptionally clean - would use again.

“Great location, beautiful views, ideal for family stay”

This is the second time that we have rented the apartment as it suits our needs perfectly. The location is ideal with a short walk to the slopes. The apartment is compact but has everything you need. The owner is very responsive to any questions and communication is very easy to deal with. Would highly recommend.

“Great location with a stunning view from the balcony”

Reviewed 24 Feb 2015

Just returned from a weeks skiing in Morillon. The apartment is in a great location just off the slopes, cosy but with everything you need. We found plenty of skiing to occupy ourselves and our three children. Apartment owner is really easy and efficient to correspond with.

“Family Ski Holiday”

Reviewed 24 Feb 2014

Don't usually give 5 out of 5, liking to leave room for improvement, but can't find any reason against a 5 on this occasion. Clean; well decorated; comfortable; homely; good friendly and prompt service; helpful advise and directions; dishwasher; DVD library and playstation; secure ski storage locker. No issues to mention. Morillon 1100 resort is sympathetically done and on a modest scale, making for a great spot including those with a young family. It has all you need such as supermarket; bar; ski hire shops, tabac, couple of restaurant... Nice central location for the Massif ski area, with good beginner and intermediate slopes and in particular a great long green run ending at the resort. [Booking scored NA since took on rental from friends who had to pull out of holiday]

“Lovely apartment, well equipped and in the perfect position”

Reviewed 31 Jan 2014

We stayed at Le refuge de l,Alpage over Christmas with our three children. The directions and instructions were clear and easy to follow, and we arrived to find the apartment clean and as described. The facilities are great and it immediately has a homely comfortable feel where you know you can relax and unwind. There was lots of useful information in the apartment which saved time and money. The position is perfect giving fabulous views(must be one of the best in the area) and easy access to the skiing and amenities. The return at the end of the day is off probably the nicest run in Morillon and everyone can do this which makes it really convenient for any group. If we had to note a negative, it would be the parking. This was not a problem in December but is limited so could be at busier periods. However, as Morillon 1100 has absolutely everything you need a car is not essential so really no problem at all. We would definitely recommend to others ( already have) and hope to stay here again.
