The old Cité of Carcassonne, a magnificent walled, mediaeval city, lovingly restored, with some interesting shops and restaurants;

Mirepoix is a beautiful mediaeval town, with a lively and interesting Monday market;

Mas d'Azil with its sense of tranquillity, its old square with a fountain, the river and of course, the immense drive-through cave, the Grotte de Mas d'Azil. A glass blower and a small ceramics workshop and studio are of interest here too;

Ax les Thermes – is located at 720m altitude in the heart of the Ariège Pyrenees. The gateway to Spain and Andorra, it is a summer and winter delight, with its hot springs, spa treatments, the ski slopes and the beautiful surrounding countryside, it is ideal for hiking, relaxing, holidaying!

Lombrives with the little train to take you to the entrance, its wonderful cathedral and its claim to being the largest cave in Europe;
Grotte de Vache – and yes, there is the most interesting bison just inside the cave
Subterranean river Labouiche – the longest subterranean river in Europe, very exciting to be pulled along in flat bottomed metal boats and enjoy the waterfall, the wonderful limestone sculptures and the sound of silence.

Parc de la prehistoire a day for all the family to enjoy with a museum which includes facsimiles of the cave paintings at Niaux , an interesting walk through a prehistoric landscape with life size Mammoths, lions, bison and outside a sonar labyrinth; a chance to practise throwing spears just like the prehistoric hunters; walking under the waterfall and so much more. A good restaurant on site as well as picnic areas and a children's playpark
