Location description from owner

The England region

The region has the highest UK temperatures and the lowest rainfall......and the lowest amont of tourists......um.....? Yeah it beats me too. Now we have the Airport only 3 miles away we might start to see a few more, but it makes for a fantastic place to visit becasue things are not aimed only at the tourist, You get to experience the real area, its also very peaceful and friendly.Leigh On Sea is an Old Fishing village which is steeped in history, and folklore. Stories of Witches, Smugglers, and the Cockleshell Heroes abound, just find a friendly fisherman or fishmonger to hear the legends. There are many new books featuring Leigh, including "the Drowning Pool" by Syd MoreThere are many creative people living and working in Leigh, with galleries and pottery studios, we have a wonderfully rich Leigh Art Trail every year in June. Music is another great thing to experience in Leigh, and with many venues offerring live music and club nights there is a nightlife for everyone. For gastronomes we have many Fine Dining resturants including "The Boatyard" in Old Leigh at the high price range, great Tai resturants, and fish restuants offerring mid range prices, and plenty of cafes offerring health foods to fish and chips at the lower range. A great place to have lunch is our favourite cafe/bakery Birdwood just a few moments walk from Peace Haven. A little further walk (5 mins) brings you into "Old Leigh" which has many traditional pubs offerring real ales and pub food or you can sit outside at the pub watching the sun setting where you can enjoy a pint of prawns or cockles with your Beer. Peace Haven has a lovely kitchen so you can also bring food home from the Deli's and fish mongers to cook up your own delights!Birdwatchers, and nature photographers will be thrilled by Two Tree Island, which plays host to thousands of migratory birds and has many Hides from where you can veiw these stunning creatures as they wade in the Estuary inlets. Taking a walk along the cliffs to the West of Peace Haven, you will reach the majestic Hadleigh Castle, immortalised by John Constable, the ruined castle looks out over the Country park, which offers further exploration, and contains a Bronze aged roundhouse exhibit, and the birthplace of the Salvation army, which has a rare breeds visiting farm, and an excellent cafe where you can see right across the estuary and parkland as you sip your coffee. To the East of Peace Haven you can take the coast road or promenade right into Southend, where you can find the "Golden Mile" with its amusement arcades and kiss me quick shops, cafes and Adventure Island, which is a free admission adventure park. Of cousre, no visit to the area should miss the famous mile long Southend Pier, which is now home to a newly constructed arts centre and Jamie Oliver Ice Cream Parlour at its end. Recently as some roadworks were underway, near to the very ancient Priory in Prittlewell, the oldest part of Southend, they uncovered the grave of a Saxon Warrior. Nicknamed the "King Of Bling" by locals because of the extensive hoard of gold that was buried alongside him, it is an interesting place to visit as is the old Priory and Priory Park, which aslo has a bandstand and many music events during the Summer Holidays. If you are into Antique Hunting, Leigh is a very good place to visit, as is Battlesbridge, just a 20 minute drive from Peace Haven.Water Sporting activities can be booked ahead of your visit, at the Southend Marine Activities Centre. There are free tennis courts at the end of the road, Cycles may be available if you enquire at the time of booking. and there is a nearby swimming pool.Just a few minures walk from Peace Haven is Belfairs Woods, which is a great place to lose yourself for a few hours, and has another wonderful resturant and cafe and a public golf course. We love the cottage, the area is full of happy people and places, and we know you will simply love your stay in our blissful cottage.

“Home comforts”

Reviewed 17 Sep 2014

Great place to stay and relax after our busy few days of training with our customer. Location was ideal for our needs and quiet although the front bedroom has a streetlight right outside so was a rather bright at night. WiFi would have been a good addition as there wasn't any. Thanks for the cheese and wine when we arrived after a long journey from Devon.

Sorry you didn't find the Wifi John, we have a mobile Wifi, which was on the dresser. Also thanks for the heads up about the street lamp, no other guest has commented so I didn't know it was an issue. I will fit some blackout blinds to the new window that is just about to be fitted. Once again, thanks for being super guests. Kindset regards Sarah

“A great place to stay”

Reviewed 9 Apr 2014

Peace Haven is certainly a clean, tidy place. It is located in a quite area but walking distance to the shops and cafes. It has a quaint garden, but spent most of our time in the dinning room chatting up on the family gossip with a bottle of wine or two. Relaxing and a comfortable place to stay. Thank you Sarah

Yes the amount of people that just love our dining room. Even our own home doesn't have such a big table for big family gatherings!!! thanks for the review xx

“Sweet typical Cotage”

Reviewed 10 Jul 2013

We had a pleasant stay. Sarah was full of small attention our respects. This is a pretty typical English cotage. The town is very nice. We recommend!

What a wonderful group of young guys you were, perfect guests, so glad you enjoyed your stay, come again next year!
