Description from owner

Description

A 2 floor Houseboat with garden, within a short distance of Amsterdam (20 km), in the lake district of “The Kagerplassen”, in midst of " the Green Heart" of the Netherlands, up to 8 people(6 adults plus 2 kids). Close to Schiphol(Amsterdam) airport (15 min drive).

Charming two level houseboat, in an oasis of tranquillity, the Kagerplassen, a beautiful lake distrct, for swimming, relaxation, fishing, cycling, sailing and boating, Large garden, sleeps up to 8 people, private parking. Note: Not accessible during the winter months (mid November till mid March).

The plot includes a 2 floor houseboat with terrace on the waterfront, a spacious well maintained enclosed garden with lots of privacy, 2 terraces, a cottage called the “Cage” with beds for 4 people and a separate “Gazebo”, surrounded by 3 walls of glass, with a large dining table for up to 10 people. At the back of the property, in the inner harbour, is a boathouse for the wooden clinker sloop. WIFI available.

Do not expect 5 stars luxury, but enjoy the charms and the relaxing outdoors life on the waterfront, with all amenities and comforts of home.

The view from the houseboat or from the waterfront terrace is breathtaking. Experience an oasis of tranquillity in the middle of the exciting Randstad lake area, located in the midst of the “Green Heart” of Holland on the edge of the beautiful “Kagerplassen”.

Imagine yourself taken back centuries with the picturesque old Dutch landscape. Enjoy the silence, the beautiful Dutch skies, the mills and the dikes, the meadows, the church towers, cows, sheep, water birds and the murmur of the rippling water. On a beautiful day it attracts an armada of boats of all sorts. The water terrace is facing west; take in the magnificent sunset on a balmy summer evening.

The large walled garden offers full privacy. The garden is very green, with beautiful flowering shrubs, roses, fruit trees and a lawn. A gardener takes care of its maintenance. The entire garden is drained. Enjoy a good book while you are lying quietly in the sun. Let the children play a game of badminton or jump on the trampoline. Swim in the water, float on the surfboard or take a relaxing (sailing) ride through the beautiful surroundings.

The nearby the small lake, called the Koppoel, is ideal for beginning (young) sailors. Nearby there are great sailing schools and sailing camps for childeren.

On shore is a large terrace, sheltered under a nice big tree and with a beautiful view over the water. Enjoy your evening meal, either BBQed or not. Preheat the evening around the campfire in the outdoor fireplace. In cooler weather you can enjoy your meal at the large table in the glass-enclosed Gazebo.

From the private parking area, which is closed by a barrier (key card), you walk the dike and eventually reach, through the scaffolding of the small cosy inner port, the "WaterNest". This walk is not suitable for high heels or disabled people and lasts 5 min. Note scaffold wood can be slippery! With the wheelbarrows (3) you can carry your stuff from the car park.

Roelofarendsveen, a small village, is at 7 km away, with a well-stocked supermarket, a lovely butcher, an old farmer's cheese store and a liquor store. Another alternative would be to take a trip with your own boat to Warmond or Sassenheim for your grocery shopping. 15 minutes by boat, you will reach Kaageiland with a variety of restaurants with waterfront terraces and pubs, up to a Michelin starred restaurant called “Tante Kee”.

“Come for the View, Stay for the Tranquility”

Reviewed 7 May 2014

We enjoyed a long weekend at the WaterNest in late April and wished we could have stayed longer. With a beautiful view of the Dutch countryside (Windmills included) we found it a tranquil refuge great for relaxation. The main house has a great glass front with a comfortable living area and full kitchen. As people who like to cook, we found the kitchen easy to use with the things necessary to cook a full meal. The master bedroom is spacious with a nice bathroom – just be prepared for a soft mattress. The “Cage”, the smaller house off to the side, would have been ideal for either another couple and/or children who can sleep on their own. With one large bed (big enough for two adults) and a bunk bed (for children) it would sleep 3 to 4 comfortably. Note that the toilet and the bunk beds are in the same room, so when planning for larger groups keep this in mind. The outside gazebo was also nice and in good condition. As it was rather cool in the evenings while we were there, we didn’t have the opportunity to use the gazebo or the yard as we would have liked. The owners were also easy to reach, helpful and very pleasant. Their English is great and they were full of tips on how to enjoy our weekend there. In short, if you are looking for a quite place that is close to Amsterdam and the Hague where you can feel at home in stead of going to a hotel, then this would be the place. You just need a car! Thanks R&M for a great stay!

Owner's reply: Thank you guys for your lovely review, you have been the perfect guests and we hope to see you back in the near future! Lovely you enjoyed the old Dutch countryside and the tranquility.
