Description from owner

Description

A dream holiday cottage on the Wild Atlantic Way

Formerly part of the Delphi estate, this deceptively large rental property is a reconstruction and extension of two 19th century cottages, merged into one home of great character.

There are no other buildings in sight.

Clad in local stone, roofed with traditional Welsh slates and fully insulated to modern standards, Waterfall Cottage has all the charm of a period property with all the benefits of modern reconstruction.

The cottage sleeps eight people in great comfort and an extra two bunk beds can be added on request.

There are four principal bedrooms (three with one large bed and one with twin single beds), plus an optional extra bunk room. There are three bathrooms, one en-suite with the master bedroom.

There’s a modern kitchen and a large day room equipped with satellite TV, wi-fi, an eclectic library and a DVD player. The piece de resistance

Further details indoors

There’s a modern kitchen and a large day room equipped with satellite TV, wi-fi, an eclectic library and a DVD player. The piece de resistance is the spectacular 440 sq. ft. lower level River Room with its terrace right beside the river, offering amazing views over the water to the wild scenery beyond.

The cottage has oil-fired underfloor heating and a large wood-burning stove.

Further details outdoors

Just 400 yards from Delphi Lodge, Ireland's most famous fishing lodge, fly-fishing for salmon and sea trout is very close at hand.

Surrounded by the highest mountains in the west of Ireland, there is great hiking.

With gorgeous sandy beaches nearby, there are great beach walks, surfing, horse-riding and, for the hardy, swimming in the sea.

Golf at Westport, scuba diving and sea fishing are all avaiable in the area. And there's a spa just half a mile down the road.

There are lovely scenic drives in all directions. This is one of the most unspoilt and beautiful regions in Europe.

Location description from owner

The Western Ireland region

The nearest village, Leenane in County Galway, is eight miles to the southeast and the small town of Louisburgh is eleven miles to the north. The beautiful Killary Fjord is just two miles away and there are a number of spectacular sandy beaches, some good for surfing, within a short drive of the property.

The Delphi Valley and Doologh Pass are among the last truly unspoilt areas of western Europe and represent a nature lover’s paradise. Otters, pine martens, badgers, peregrines and mountain hares are regularly sighted and the river beside the property is home to many dippers and the occasional kingfisher.

For basic food shopping, the essentials can be bought from the village store in Leenane, where petrol is also available. Louisburgh has a small supermarket and in Westport there are two large supermarkets and many other shops.

This is a dream hideaway with easy access to all the spectacular scenery of Connemara and Mayo.

Leenane

The main attractions are the scenery, the beaches, the fishing, the hiking and the sense of utter tranquility.

The nearest major town is Westport, a beautiful Georgian town with the historic Westport House a major attraction.

Scenic drives through Connemara and Mayo are a must, perhaps taking in the Victorian gardens at Kylemore Abbey, the pretty fishing village of Roundstone, the National Museum of Country Life and the holy mountain of Croagh Patrick.
