Location description from owner

The Cotswolds region

The Cotswolds covers a large area in Central and South West England and is famous for its beautiful rolling countryside, quaint villages and good pubs. It is a very popular area for walkers and cyclists.

Lechlade

Plum Tree Cottage is conveniently placed in Lechlade, a small market town in the South Eastern part of the Cotswolds. Lechlade is situated on the river Thames and it is an attractive small town, with many old buildings built in the local Cotswolds stone. Lechlade is conveniently placed for visiting the Regency town of Cheltenham with its fine buildings and shops. It is also a short drive to Oxford, famous worldwide for its colleges.

The ancient city of Bath, famous for its Roman Baths is about 1 and a half hours drive from Lechlade or by train from Swindon station.

Lechlade is surrounded by gorgeous rolling countryside with pretty villages and pubs. It is a great place for walkers with many walks on the doorstep- there's no need to drive to enjoy the countryside.

The larger town of Cirencester is only a few miles away. Cirencester represents the heart of the Cotswolds. It is a lovely market town, with craft and gift shops and coffee shops galore. The parish church is definitely worth a visit. Alternatively, take a walk in Cirencester Park, on the Earl of Bathurst's estate. Go on a Sunday and you may find a polo match taking place ( and maybe spot a member of the Royal family!)
