Traditional cottage in the peaceful conservation village of Leadhills, nestling in the Lowther Hills close to the Southern Upland Way. This cottage has every facility you could want or need for a "get away from it all" holiday. Will sleep 3-4 people in a Double bedroom, Single bedroom and sofa bed in the lounge. Feature fireplace in the lounge with wood burning stove. The lounge has comfortable seating for 5 people and is equipped with Sky TV, DVD player and free wifi internet access. Wrought iron staircase leading to the bedrooms upstairs. The bedrooms are small but adequate. The kitchen is fully equipped with electric cooker and oven, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher, toaster and microwave and all cutlery & crockery, pots & pans. There is also a washing machine and tumble drier in the utility room. The family bathroom has an electric shower over the bath, W.C and wash hand basin. The cottage has a south facing conservatory with seating for reading or relaxing.Romantic

Shire Cottage is within easy reach of many major tourist attractions, museums, outdoor activities, beautiful gardens and much more.
Take a day out to EDINBURGH and visit the Castle, Calton Hill, Arthur's Seat, the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Scottish Parliament Building.
GLASGOW is just an hours drive away - visit the Science Museum, the National Piping Centre, Kelvingrove Art Galleries or shopping on Argyle Street or Sauchiehall Street.
The seaside town of AYR is only an hour away - visit Ayr Racecourse or nearby Robert Burns Birthplace Museum.
1½ hours drive to the GALLOWAY NATIONAL PARK and 1½ hours to LOCH LOMOND.
You could take a drive to visit the some Scottish Borders towns of Gretna, Hawick, Jedburgh, Selkirk and Melrose for a day.

Leadhills

There are numerous things to see and do in Leadhills and the neighbouring village of Wanlockhead.
If you prefer not to stray too far from Shire Cottage visit the Wanlockhead Lead Mining Museum including the old Beam Engine and going into one of the old lead mines.
Take a look at the Leadhills Miners Library, the oldest subscription library in the British Isles, and learn a little more about the former mining community.
Meet the Leadhills Mining Bears at Bear-ly Reminiscent just a few doors down from Shire Cottage.
LeadhillsGolf Course has the honour of being the highest in Scotland at 1500 feet and the Leadhills & Wanlockhead Railway is the highest narrow gauge adhesion railway in Britain, reaching 1498 feet above sea level.
There are many fantastic routes for walkers in all directions from the village.
