The Rhône-Alpes region
Mont Blanc and Lake Annecy are located in Haute-Savoie. To the North, Haute-Savoie borders on Switzerland, with Geneva as the closest major town, and Lake Geneva. The town of Évian-les-Bains is the most famous town on the French shore of Lake Geneva, well-known around the world for its mineral water Evian.
To the east, Haute-Savoie borders Italy and to the west the department of Ain. Some of the world's most well-known ski resorts are located here. Chamonix is a city where ski and Mountaineering are at the heart of the economic activity, thanks to the Mont-Blanc (Europe's highest mountain, 4808 meters).
Chamonix has been welcoming travellers and adventurers for over two and a half centuries and can be truly described as an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. The mountain scenery surpasses one's wildest expectations and the Mont-Blanc, jewel in the crown, thrones silently over the Chamonix valley.
Activities or contemplation
The lifts and cog railways transport visitors into the very heart of the Mont-Blanc Massif, the realm of high mountains where one may contemplate and admire exceptional panoramas.
Chamonix offers an extraordinary choice of sports activities, be it for tentative beginners or keen enthusiasts, there's something for every visitor : 350 km of marked hiking trails, 40 km mountain bike tracks, rock climbing, mountaineering, rafting, canyoning, paragliding, an 18 hole golf course and lots more...
Children will also be delighted by all the valley has to offer: a superb adventure park with tree acrobatics, summer toboggan and dardevil rides, rock climbing, pony trekking etc
The sports centre with its swimming pools and water toboggan will delight all ages and on a wet day there's always the indoor climbing wall, fitness centre and spa, an olympic sized ice-rink and a cinema complex.
Culture and heritage
Chamonix is a vibrant alpine town with a wonderful architectural heritage that bears witness to a wealth of history. The Priory, alpine farms, baroque churches, art deco buildings and palaces from the "Golden Era". The cosmopolitan atmosphere in this small town is both captivating and enchanting.
There is an excellent alpine museum and exhibition centre in the centre of Chamonix and for those who wish to delve a little deeper into the history of the valley, a heritage guide will be delighted to share her knowledge with you during a weekly visit of the town.
By taking advantage of the free public transport, one may also discover the outlying villages and hamlets, each with their individual identity and charm.
On the town
For those in search of a little retail therapy, they will be delighted by Chamonix's pedestrian centre with its wide selection of attractive boutiques. If you enjoy watching the world go by, what better place than one of Chamonix's sunny street cafés !
The valley also offers a vast gastronomic choice, from rustic mountain restaurants serving Savoyard specialities, to the chic of the Michelin starred Albert Premier, from international dishes to nouvelle cuisine, each visitor will find something to suit their palette!

"Idyllic mountain getaway"
My wife and I used the property to take our children (then aged 6 and 9) for our first family skiing vacation. We found the property on a holiday letting website and had extensive contact with Jonathan prior to our departure. We dound him to be extremely helpful, easily contactable and always quick to respond to any questions we had. Jonathan provided us with contact details for an airport shuttle service so our journey from Geneva airport to the Chalet was stress free and excellent value. Arrangements had been made for us to collect the key from a neighbour who was also helpful and friendly, providing us with useful information about Chamonix. The chalet is a good size and with 3 large bedrooms and 2 good sized bathrooms there was more than enough room for the 4 of us. The living room and kitchen were also perfectly adequate for a family of 4 and the balcony offered stunning views of the Alps. Our children were booked into the local ski school and we were delighted to see that it was walking distance from our chalet. My wife and I then used the excellent bus service to access different parts of the mountain range. The skiing available in Chamonix really is second to none. The variety of pistes available was fantastic and my wife and i were able to travel to many different areas and were never bored. The ski area where our children had lessons also benefitted from allowing us to ski right to the front door of the chalet - a lovely perk after a long day skiing! The town of Chamonix itself is a typical mountain town with a wide variety of restaurants, bars and shops. Not speaking French was never an issue as the vast majority of locals spoke English fluently. I would highly recommend this Chalet for families or a group of friends, regardless of their respective skiing ability. Jonathan was an absolute pleasure to deal with and we look forward to returning again in the near future.
Many thanks for your kind review. I was pleased to be able to assist in any way I could. Thank you for staying, please visit again soon, and take advantage of the 10% discount for returning guests!

"Great place, Great location"
A fantastic place to go with friends and family throughout the year. Beyond the great location for skiing in the winter months, we appreciated this chalet due to its easy access to a number of summer activities. We were able to enjoy the numerous hiking, biking and mountain climbing opportunities that this chalet's location provided. The chalet itself was comfortable, well kept and well stocked, providing everything we needed for a summer vacation. It was also perfect for a group of our size. We would love to come back next year, a wonderful place!
