Location description from owner

The Pays de la Loire region

We are located in the North West of France, a very direct 10 minutes of the A28 motorway. We are 20mins south of the world famous city of Le Mans, synonymous for it's Motor Racing (home of the 24hr Endurance Race). 40 mins north of Tours, from where you will find yourself at the centre of the' Valley of kings' with 57 UNESCO Châteaux to be visited. We are in a lovely quiet country spot, surrounded by hectares of national park, dappled shaded networks of pleasant woodland trails for walking, cycling & trekking. Just 2km from the local town. Amongst hillsides of vineyards & sunflowers, picturesque villages along the banks of the rivers, so quintessential of the region, many locally classified 'France's Most Beautiful Villages'. We are only accessed via a long private drive with no neighbours to disturb the tranquillity.

Le Grand-Luce

Our local town of Le Grand-Lucé is a charming château town. It has a lovely cobbled square in front of the château gates with several coffee shops, bars, boulangeries and a charcuterie. There is a supermarket in the town also, a Post Office, pharmacy, doctors, banks, butchers and a weekly market. A few km's down the road are the lovely villages and towns along the banks of the River Loir itself, La Chartre sur Loir for example. Wine tasting, brocantes and vide-greniers (car boots) most weeks. Only 12km away from the lakes at Marcon, for the beach & water sports, plus literally on the doorstep are the 280km of cycling and walking trails in the Forest of Bercé.

“Dans un coeur de verdure, un endroit incontournable”

Reviewed 26 May 2014

“What an amazing place!!!”

Reviewed 2 Nov 2012

This was my first time in France and I loved it. The owners made me and my family very welcome and the barn was so homely and comfortable. The views were breathtaking and we had everything to hand. The owners recommended some great places for us to visit which was very helpful. It was home from home but with much better weather!! Loved it and would definately go back again

“Tasteful and thoughtfully equipped cottage in lovely quiet spot”

Reviewed 30 Sep 2012

Cottage was well equipped (e.g, washing up liquid, towels, etc.) to make it easy for travellers. Tasteful decor and great outdoor space. Owner was friendly and informative but not obtrusive. In response to our inquiries about activities for young children, she had some tricycles, shovels and pails etc. on hand which kept the children happy while we were able to read and relax in the lounge chairs. Beautiful spot with pleasant walk to the quiet small village.

“High quality accommodation in beautiful surroundings”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2012

We stayed in The Barn which was furnished to an extremely high standard and very comfortable. Owners Alice and Clive were very friendly and welcoming. Surrounding gardens with rolling countryside beyond - beautiful and tranquil. Lovely walk to the nearest village through countryside (about 2 miles) - otherwise a quick trip by car to the bakery and cafe in the village square next to the beautiful little church. Le Mans is about 20 minutes away and well worth a visit to the old town and cathedral. Also visits to châteaux, some nearby and lots more closer to Tours -a bit further away (just under an hour).
