A house book at the property holds all sorts of exciting discoveries about the local area and the Dordogne region. The hills and valleys of the Dordogne also offer the keen walker or cyclist a fantastically rich and varied terrain, with something interesting to see around every corner.

The barn is south facing with a private garden and private pool. Though the barn is marketed as sleeping 6, there are beds for up to eight people, with an additional two travel cots. In the past, the property has been regularly used by two families, with comfortable accommodation for all.

Location description from owner

The Dordogne region

Few regions sum up the attractions of France better than the Dordogne. With its rich food, heady history, chteau-studded countryside and picturesque villages, the Dordogne has long been a favourite getaway for holiday makers. It's also famous for having some of France's finest prehistoric cave art, which can be found throughout the caverns and rock shelters of the Vzre Valley.

The weather in the Dordogne is very pleasant throughout the year. Temperatures in the summer can be comfortably into the 30s during the day, with warm evenings.

Le Bugue

The Dordogne has some wonderful attractions that appeal to holiday makers of all ages. For the active, tennis, golf and horse riding can be found locally. In the nearby hilltop town of Audrix (5km) there is also a waterpark, L'Etang du Bos, which has pools, slides, a lake with a beach, a cafe and a large children's play area. Circuses also appear throughout the summer and are usually free, being sponsored by the local supermarkets.

A great day out is to hire a canoe and spend a lazy afternoon spent drifting down the Dordogne river. The local chateaux are stunning, perched on the edge of huge limestone cliffs. Particularly recommended are the Chateau de Beynac (18km) and its hillside village which clings to the side of a near-vertical rock face, and the Chateau de Castelnaud (20km) which has a wonderful medieval museum with lots of activities for children. For the gastronome, the Dordogne will already be well known. The area is world-famous for its food – confit, fois gras, truffles, cheese, walnuts to name but a few of the local delicacies. In July and August there are many festivals, with evening food markets in most villages. There are also many famous regional wines to be enjoyed including Bergerac, Buzet, Duras, Monbazillac and St Emilion.

The Dordogne is celebrated for its stunning caves. Nearby there are two well worth visiting. Le Gouffre de Proumeyssac (5km) is a spectacular local cave in the lovely hilltop town of Audrix. Font-de-Gaume (5km) in nearby Les Eyzies has prehistoric cave paintings, the only site in France with these that is still open to the public. The gardens of Maquessayc (20km), perched on a rocky promontory are also a stunning place to visit, with plenty of shade if the weather is very hot and a terrace restaurant with what must be one of the best views in France.

“Stunning Secluded Barn, Superb Location, Simply Excellant”

Reviewed 10 Jul 2016

Apart from its' stunning prettiness and superb location, the barn is very well equipped, comfortable, clean and just everything we hoped for. La Guillarmie has a real French charm and guarantees a relaxed holiday even if you don't venture out too often. The pool is a nice size and well maintained by a lovely gentleman called Alain (not intrusively so). We spent the warmest days by and in the pool, which is a great treat. It's so easy to get to Le Bugue or Les Eyzies from here, and Bergerac is only about 50 minutes away by car. The info booklet provided was very useful and driving from Bergerac Airport couldn't have been easier. We canoe'd twice, visited caves twice, visited two markets and ate twice our body weight in foie gras in the local restaurants. Thank you for the lovely bottle of wine, it called to us after we walked around La Guillarmie with delight. A great start to a great holiday. Being so close to the forest meant that we were treated to plenty of wildlife, deer, red kites, and even a polecat. We will be booking for next year.

Thank you so much for such a positive review - we're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay at La Guillarmie! We're very fortunate that our neighbours are so lovely and it's nice to hear you met them. They can be very helpful in terms of offering useful local knowledge! The people who help us manage changeovers also commented that the barn was left extremely tidy. Thank you for this - it makes the process of changeover much easier. You would be very, very welcome to come and stay again and we look forward to seeing what wildlife you spot on your next visit. A polecat is a new one for us!
