Description from owner

The Gite (1 bedroom plus bed settee in lounge)

The luxury gite has been imaginatively transformed from the original outbuildings into a private hideaway that's perfect for couples. Beautifully furnished, the gite offers a well-equipped kitchen, a large, contemporary lounge featuring a wood-burning stove, and, just off the lounge, a sumptuous double bedroom with original “bulls eye” windows set high in the wall. (The gite also has a bed settee in the large lounge)

Adjoining the bedroom is a beautiful Italian tiled bathroom. Outside is a private terrace and sitting area for taking meals alfresco and gite guests also have full use of the heated swimming pool. With full central heating throughout, the gite is ideal for holidays all year round, including Christmas and New Year.

La Maison d'Iris sits within an acre of well-planted, landscaped gardens. The gardens, extensively planted with flower and shrub borders, provide colour throughout the year, offering both sun worshippers, and those seeking some leafy shade, all they need for a perfect holiday. Nestling in the heart of the grounds is a stunning 10m x 5m heated swimming pool (open from May to October). We hope you enjoy our house and gardens as much as we do.

We understand how much more there is to a holiday than just booking it and turning up. We are dedicated to providing you with a range of services to make sure nothing stands between you and a wonderfully relaxing holiday. Here are some of the additional services on offer. We are happy to organise grocery shopping for your arrival, booking tours/ restaurants/ horse riding/ golf, lunchtime picnics, as well as providing additional housekeeping services, if they are required.

For guests renting the gite, we can provide French continental breakfast and/or a 4-course table d'hôte meal, cooked with fresh local produce and including local wines.

The Midi-Pyrénées region

La Maison d'Iris is ideally located in the beautiful Quercy Blanc area of the Tarn et Garonne, with many beautiful bastide villages on the doorstep. The charming hill top medieval bastide village of Lauzerte, with its outstanding views across stunning landscapes, is only a 15-minute drive away. The Quercy countryside is beautifully populated by rows of vines, orchards and fields of sunflowers, marking the region out as one that enjoys long, hot summers.

Situated close by are many other picture-postcard villages such as Lauzerte, Montaigu De Quercy and Montcuq, all with their own unique atmosphere. These beautiful villages also host their own local markets, where you can purchase local produce or simply sit back enjoying a coffee or a glass of wine in a little café, watching the world go by.

Further afield, there are many other beautiful attractions. For wine tasting, visit Cahors, famous for its “black” wine. You could take a day out to visit the city of Toulouse, well known for its “pink” brick buildings and the incredible Place du Capitole. Around 90 minutes away, is one of France's most famous world heritage sites - Rocamadour. Rocamadour, built on the cliffside of a canyon with the River Alzou flowing below, is a popular destination with 1.5 million visits every year. The village was built in the Middle Ages after the discovery of what was believed to be the body of St Amator.

“Peace and tranquility in a beautiful setting.”

Reviewed 29 Sep 2015

Tan & John were wonderful hosts thinking of everything in advance. A welcome of essential good quality food (home baked cake, bread, butter, cheese, wine, milk, ham, tea, real coffee, water etc), a Sat Nav full of local and further places to explore a clean, luxurious Gite in an idyllic setting, complete within beautiful grounds, seating areas and swimming pool. They had suggestions, advice and tips and helped with booking restaurants. The Gite is in a peaceful setting with local walks and between 10 and 20 mins drive from chateaus, more walks, towns, villages, markets etc. A beautiful place to stay with plenty of room inside and out, beautifully decorated and furnished at a very reasonable price. We had a quick break of just 4 nights and would like to return but highly recommend Maison d'Iris to anyone. Fly into Begerac if possible as quick, convenient little airport!

Thanks for the lovely review Sarah. We loved having you and Rob stay and hope you return sometime. Next time we are back in England we will definitely visit Rob's pottery. Tan and John

“Perfect in every way!”

We stayed here for our honeymoon in August and we had a brilliant holiday. John and Tan were fantastic hosts and they made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived. The gite is beautiful and is very comfy and cosy. It is equipped with everything you need, the welcome pack was particularly helpful with lots of advice on places to visit, restaurants and when and where the local markets are. There was also a sat nav with pre loaded destinations on and this came in very handy - a brilliant idea! The pool and gardens are absolutely beautiful, if your looking for a peaceful and relaxing holiday this is the place to come! The gite is set in a lovely area of France with Lauzerte being one of the prettiest towns we have ever visited! Thank you so much John and Tan, you really looked after us and made our honeymoon very special.

Dear Natalie and Ben, Thanks to you both for the lovely review. We had a wonderful time hosting you and are so glad you enjoyed your stay. We do hope that one day you will return to see us. Tan and John

“Peaceful, relaxing, scenic and friendly”

Reviewed 19 Jul 2015

This is our second visit to the Gite as we loved it so much the first time. We don't usually go back to the same location twice as we like to explore new destinations but this place just hits the spot for a slow down and relax, without lengthy travel times, etc. This time we travelled with a friend who asked to come after seeing our pictures from last year. We have all booked again for next year together with our friend's husband and another couple (to stay in the main house). The Gite is lovely and well equipped for a couple. There are also rooms available in the main house which look wonderful and are truly French (our friend stayed in the house and really loved it). There is a well sized and maintained garden with private pool. No sand, overlooking concrete tower blocks, or other peoples music/noise etc., just secluded lush garden, tranquillity and the distant sound of a tractor at work in the fields. I don't sit still very long and my highlights include cycling the peaceful lanes in the surrounding area (bikes are available at the Gite), hiking (again John & Tan provide really great guidance and printed directions tailored to what we wanted) and enjoying the local wine (after which I do sit still a little longer to my wife's relief). My wife really likes the local markets, café culture and the peace and quiet whilst I'm off cycling. We are really looking forward to our trip back next year!

Dear Richard, Karen and Dianne - It was lovely to have you stay with us again and we are now planning for your 3rd visit next year (and for that important birthday!) Thanks for the great comments and we are so glad you enjoyed your holiday. Tan and John

“Luxurious and peaceful holiday experience”

We found Maison d'Iris to be the perfect location and setting as a base to explore this beautiful area. The accommodation is first class and our hosts, Tan and John provided a wonderful service, nothing was too much trouble, from providing directions, suggestions for days out, cooking meals to making reservations on our behalf. Would definitely love to stay there again.

Hello Michelle and Michael - Thanks to you both for the great review and we hope you enjoyed the rest of your holiday in France, especially the Clermont rugby game. We are looking forward to seeing you both again when you are next in France and good luck with your new home in St Antonin Noble Val. Tan and John

“most relaxing place ever!”

Stunning gite, very comfortable, beautiful gardens and wonderful heated swimming pool. Plenty of seating areas for enjoying the sun. Lovely helpful hosts Tan and John, from recommending places to see and do, to booking reservations, marvellous as we don't speak much French! Bottle of wine and a gorgeous cake awaited us on arrival to.

Hi Tracy and Andy - We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us at La Maison d'Iris and thanks to you both for the lovely feedback. Tracy, thank you very much for the key rings you gave us, it was very sweet of you. Tan and John

“A small corner of paradise with fantastic hosts!”

Reviewed 21 Sep 2014

After a rather difficult few weeks following knee surgery, I needed a rest in luxurious surroundings with great food......and got it all at Maison d'Iris. The gite is beautifully furnished and equipped and has plenty of privacy. We chose to take breakfast and dinner provided by John & Tan.......all very fresh & seasonal. Every mealtime was like sharing food with friends as there were also a couple staying B&B in the main house....great hospitality. The area is steeped in history - lots to see and if you're energetic (I wasn't), great cycle rides and lake swimming...I was happy with the swimming pool at the house. John & Tan go out of their way to make sure we had everything we had......maps, ideas, food, sat nav! We're definitely rebooking for next year

Debbie and Alan. Tan and I had a great time hosting yourself and Alan and we are so glad you both enjoyed your stay. Thanks for the super comments, they really are most appreciated, and we hope to see you both again next year. Finally, our lasting memory of Sooty is now posted on our Facebook page. Tan and John

“Delightful gite, wonderful hosts”

We stayed in the gite in the grounds of La Maison d'Iris. Beautifully furnished and decorated, we were in the lap of luxury all week. Tan and John were perfect hosts, friendly and attentive to the perfect degree. They provided a warm welcome and arranged to take us out one evening for music wining and dining - smashing night out. Also arranged for us to visit a local vineyard. The pool was clean and heated, the grounds very attractive. and the location is great for visiting the pretty medieval fort towns of the region.

Hi Kate and Tom, Many thanks for the lovely review and we are really glad you had a good time whilst staying with us. Also thanks for all the tips and help on the garden and the courtyard. The work starts in October. Hopefully we will see you back here one day to see the transformation!!. Tan and John

What a fantastic holiday! Hosts John & Tan couldn't have made us more welcome. The gite was beautiful and provided us with everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. Such a gem - certainly not to be missed! We enjoyed the luxury gite, the pool, the bikes too. This place is like having your own slice of paradise - just perfect.

Dear Alison and Keith, Thank you for the wonderful feedback and we are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Hopefully one day we will see you both again and we hope the exam results went well. Tan and John

“Idyllic!”

Reviewed 16 Jul 2014

A beautiful and tranquil setting, excellent hosts and a fabulous part of France. Set amongst the bastide towns, there are plent of places to visit, super restaurants - from the high end to typical french cafes, and fabulous markets. Penne D'Agennais is a must do, and only about 30 - 40 minutes away. John and Tan have put together some really good information packs that are very helpful. La Pistoule is very well situated for both Lauzerte and Montague. As an added bonus, star gazing with clear skies is simply fantastic - very little in the UK compares with it. What else is needed for a really relaxing holiday?

Sandra and Phil. Thank you for this lovely review. We thoroughly enjoyed having you stay with us at La Maison d'Iris. Perhaps one day we will be neighbours here in South West France. Tan and John

“Would give it more blobs if I could! Fantastic!”

Reviewed 1 May 2014

We stayed at the Maison d'Iris in the middle of April, in the heavenly gite and had the most fantastic, relaxing and indulgent week. The gite is beautiful, decorated to a very high standard with a luxury bathroom and bed sheets and robes, which was a really nice touch. We literally couldn't fault it. The building itself is really quirky and beautifully light, it feels like a real treat to stay there. The kitchen was my favourite - small but perfectly formed, and one of the most well equipped I've ever had for a self-catering, which is really appreciated when you are a bit further away from the town (only 10 minutes) but it is nice to stay in sometimes, and have the equipment to actually cook a normal meal. There is a bbq too, ready to use, all ready to go so you don't have to go out buying all the basics when you arrive. The welcome pack you get is very generous and really appreciated when you arrive! The gite has its own outside area which is at the top of the garden, but it feels really private and there is great views of the garden and house and surroundings as well, the garden is absolutely stunning, there is so much to look at, there is also large grass areas which would be great for children as there is a large hedge surrounding the garden. The pool is big and has lots of places to sit, it is refreshingly cool but not cold! Just what you need when it's hot! Most of all we left so happy from the incredible hosting from Tan and Jon. The house is close to the gite and it is always a worry as to whether you'll have privacy when staying with the owners on site but they had the exact right balance of leaving us to enjoy the holiday while also offering great help with organising trips for us, (wine tasting at a local vineyard - highly recommended - make sure you've got space in your bag to bring some home!!) telling us places to eat (Menu du Jour at the Auberge de Miramont is heaven) even booking tables in french! They left us bikes to use and leaflets of places to visit etc. You never felt over looked. We actually preferred having them there as after having bad experiences with other self catering before it is really comforting knowing there is someone just next door. The surrounding countryside is lovely and there is lots to explore, the roads are narrow but despite feeling like you're in the middle of nowhere (which is lovely!) in 10 minutes either direction there are 2 very well equipped towns with all you need for shopping, eating, coffee etc. We opted for breakfast and dinner at the Maison d'Iris one day, which is served on the terrace at the house with Tan and Jon and it was really lovely, what a spread! They both love their food and are passionate about the ingredients so it was a really high quality, home-cooked meal, and such a treat when you're on holiday to only have to walk about 10 metres and have that intimate restaurant feel on our doorstep. They are such a lovely couple and great company. We saw round the house as well which is exceedingly well appointed and very luxuriously decorated. Each room is very different but it is truly like living in a fairy tale. We will 1000% be back. We came away absolutely relaxed and refreshed and amazed that we'd found such a gorgeous place, that so quickly became like home, and really is not far away from home at all! It is affordable too. The airports are near and the flight is quick, I just think we might have trouble getting a booking as soon as people twig on to how nice it is there....shh don't tell anyone!

Thanks for the lovely review Susie. We really enjoyed having you stay and would love to have Sam and yourself visit again....and Good luck with Cobble Kitchen!! Tan and John
