Le Peux is a comfortable, well equipped village house situated in a Hamlet at the top of a hill, 2 minutes drive or 15 minutes walk from the Gartempe river and popular riverside restaurant. Inside there is a kitchen/living room (Sky TV Free-to-air - bring own card for more channels - and DVD player) with open fireplace and beams, one double and one twin bedroom with additional double sofa bed, family bathroom (bath with overhead shower) and additional WC and laundry room. Outside there is a beautiful large enclosed garden with fruit trees, a wonderful willow tree and covered terrace with built-in BBQ. The large above ground pool sits at the end of the garden enjoying the warm sunshine throughout the day, with views down the valley. There is a small river-beach two minutes away with a picnic area where you can paddle and swim in the shallow Gartempe river. The house is ideal for families with the Ferme Pedagogique surrounding the hamlet, with its well looked after donkeys, pigs, horses, goats and sheep (no charges - free to roam).

You'll never be bored here! The area has a wealth of activities for all including walking (many marked trails), Kayaking, cycling, fishing and horse riding literally on the doorstep and the hamlet itself has its own educational farm (free to enter). In addition there is a wealth of days-out opportunties from animal parks to the famous Futuroscope theme park (less than an hour away)

We can also help arrange bike hire for individuals or families with delivery and collection to the house. Tour de France rumoured to be passing nearby in 2016.

The Poitou-Charentes region

The Vienne region of Poitou-Charente is still one of France's best kept secrets. Popular with tourists of all nationalities it has remained unspoilt despite there being numerous attractions in the area. The climate is excellent, being one of the sunniest regions in France with hot summer temperatures.

There is a wealth of things to do in the area. Below is a list of our favourites:

1 La Voulzie - our local restaurant two minutes from the house, by the river. Also there are many, many other restaurants in the area.

2 Futuroscope - thought to be the best theme park in France - less than an hour from the Gite

3 Velorail at Chauvigny - really good fun and not as hard as it looks!

4 Les Geants du Ciel - also in Chauvigny- spectacular setting for birds of prey displays

5 Animal experiences: La Vallee des Singes - wonderful for the children - park containing different species of apes in a natural environment. Planete des Crocodiles - many different species of crocodiles under a huge dome

6 Montmorillon - Beautiful town straddling the Gartempe river. Lots of restaurants and bars to choose from. There's even an English tearooms! Famous for the Cite de L'ecrit (books and writing) and the Macaroon museum.

7 Swimming in the Gartempe - 2 minutes from the house is a small river beach giving access to the river for swimming or paddling. There is a picnic area and childrens' play area also. In summer the Gartempe here is safe and shallow.

8 Roc d'Enfer and White Water Rafting - where the Gartempe is not so safe and shallow and still only minutes from the house. For the brave!

9 Oradour -sur-Glane - a truly humbling experience. The village left untouched as a tribute to the victims of atrocities committed here during World War 2.

10 Walking, Cycling, Fishing, Kayaking, Horse riding - an endless list! See the Vienne tourist site here. Don't forget the local markets including the huge one at Les Herolles on the 29th of each month.

"great location, brilliant house, feels rural but far from remote"

This was a great experience from start to finish. The owners are friendly, helpful and responsive. Deposit repaid into our bank very promptly The house is in a lovely, peaceful location but there are good amenities ( food, drink, shops ) close by and there is plenty to do & see This place would suit all ages & families. Barbecue & pool ( plus the restaurant at the bottom of the country lane ) mean you really dont need to get the car out if you dont want to Highly recommended

"Comfortable and well equipped. Superb countryside - fantastic for walking"

Very comfortable and well equipped gite. You have marked walking trails literally going past the house. Only a stroll down to the pretty river and great restaurant. Beautiful garden and views - Nightingale greeted us with song each morning!
