These Cyprus villas are situated on the edge of this traditional little village close to the fishing port of Latchi and on the fringe of the beautiful Akamas peninsula. For those who want to just relax, these villas are secluded with lush greenery by their swimming pools and excellent barbecue facilities which are perfect for al fresco dining. For a right rural getaway, Neo Chorio is slap bang in the thick of nature, with luscious landscapes in every direction.

Quaint and sleepy, it looks out to the turquoise-blue of Chrysochou Bay, so you get the best of both worlds with both sea and scenery on tap. It's one of the island's last lowland wildernesses so take advantage while you're here – it's a paradise for walking, cycling and bird spotting and you'll come across all sorts of rare flowers along the way. Back in town, you'll find a good selection of colourful cafes and friendly tavernas where you can rest your feet with a cup of coffee or get stuck into a full-blown meal.

There's also a bank, well-stocked supermarkets and some great little craft shops where you can watch weavers at work on traditional looms or even join in a ceramic workshop. Getting back to nature, just outside the village hidden among the hills, you'll find the entrance to a complex cave system with subterranean caverns filled with jaw-dropping stalagmites and stalactites – don't miss it. If you simply want to chill out, the seclusion of nearby Lara beach is a sight for sore eyes with not a building in view – just soft sugary sands and a laid-back taverna. These Cyprus villas are pure bless.

Location description from owner

The Paphos District

More than sun, sea and sand…”

The jewel of Cyprus!

Neo ChorioThe village of Neo Chorio lies on the northwest coast of Cyprus, nestling in the hills above the small fishing port of Latchi and the legendary Baths of Aphrodite. It is the last village before the Akamas wilderness begins and is therefore also known as The Gateway to the Akamas. Traditionally a community of shepherds, farmers and fishermen, the village has taken progress in its stride, growing rapidly with people wishing to buy property and come to live in this beautiful area. Tourism has had an impact too and there is a wide selection of villas and hotel apartments catering for tourists.

The architecture in this village is dominated by stone houses and narrow winding streets which provide a traditional Cypriot atmosphere. With two Cypriot tavernas, a small grocery store and a couple of 'kafenions' where locals gather to socialize and chat over thick, strong coffee, the theme of the village is laid back. The Akamas peninsula, covering approximately 230 square kilometres, is where you will find wild landscape, amazing natural beauty, deep gorges and wide sandy bays.

In early spring, the area is carpeted with wild anemones and cyclamen, for which the region is famous. There are many wild orchids to discover, some of them quite rare and found only in Cyprus. The area also holds one of the world's main migratory routes and is therefore a magnet for birdwatchers. So, whether your interest lies in flowers or birds, or simply in walking and delighting in the magnificent scenery, Neo Chorio makes a perfect base from which to explore the Akamas. The Forestry Department has laid out several nature trails, one of which is actually an old trade route used by camel traders who, long ago, transported gypsum down to a large wooden jetty near the Baths of Aphrodite for shipment overseas.

Of interest is also the Triskelion Pottery, where exquisite, handmade reproductions of ancient Cypriot ceramics are produced using original methods and materials as well as the Hawkins Art Studio with its permanent display of original paintings, drawings, and books by Harry and Sheila Hawkins, residents in the area for many years. Traditional rug making is still carried out and a working loom is on view. On the outskirts of the village there is a shaded lookout point. The views from there are beautiful in the extreme, and it is one of the few places where you can sit and enjoy the view of the sea on both sides of the island at the same time.

“Tranquil bliss”

Reviewed 27 Aug 2016

Sandalia gave me and my family the perfect tranquil location to base ourselves for our trip to Cyprus. The people of the village are friendly, the facilities of the villa were excellent, the hosts Poppi and her dad are lovely people. I told Poppi that I would not want to write a positive review as I dont want other people finding this idyllic place and booking it when I want it in future!!

“Outstanding”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2015

we stayed 9 days with 3 children at Akamas Edge villas. The Villas are in excellent location, in a quiet village, 5 minutes driving to the beautiful beaches. They were very clean and fully equipped as described in the pictures. Popi and her father were very friendly and took care of everything in the best way. Overall, we highly recommend the property.

“Excellent villa & beautiful place”

Reviewed 1 Nov 2014

This villa is set in a very beautiful and peaceful part of Cyprus. Near a small village and a mile or so from the sea. Easy to get to from Paphos airport. The villa was excellent, very clean and had everything needed. The area was lovely but you will need a car and if you have mobility problems then the village is just a bit too far to walk. The village had a shop and some tavernas and parts of it are very old. Latchi was just down the road with a good range of restaurants. Polis again was very near and had good restaurants and supermarkets. We took a trip into the mountains and came across some beautiful villages. Well worth a visit. The villa owner treated us to fruit from his orchard next door, which was fantastic and then took us out for a meal. Couldn't do enough for us! Doesn't get better than that!
