Blanches is a coastal classic. A dream house and cottage with glorious sea views, set in a peaceful and secluded location in 2.5 acres of sheltered, south-facing gardens and surrounded by unspoilt countryside. Lying between Looe and Fowey, the spectacular National Trust coastline is a 10 minute walk from the garden down an exquisite, almost private valley. Lansallos Cove, an ideal swimming beach and perfect for children, is also within easy walking distance. The fishing village of Polperro and the vibrant port of Fowey are a short drive away.

Blanches House provides spacious and comfortable accommodation for up to nine people, with a farmhouse kitchen, expansive living room and hallway, 5 bedrooms (one downstairs), 2 bathrooms and an additional WC. Outside there are lovely sitting out areas overlooking the valley and sea, several terraced lawns and lots of secret gardens to explore. For large groups, we can accommodate a further five people next door in Blanches Cottage, the original character cottage.

We include a Cornish cream tea on arrival, free wireless broadband, delicious natural spring water and complimentary access to Fowey Hall Hotel's luxurious pool. Out of season we offer discounted rates for couples with additional guests charged at £50 per week.

Blanches would suit nature lovers, bird-watchers, walkers (including the four-legged variety), gardeners and those who simply wish to get away from it all while staying in a well-equipped family home. The properties are cosy in winter with log fires and on nature's door for summer. You might see a deer in the gardens.

The Cornwall region

Cornwall is one of the world's most stunning destinations. From the beautiful coastline of the north to the sheltered bays in the south, loved by surfers, walkers, sailing buffs, gastronauts and visitors simply seeking a break from a busy world have discovered a breathtaking, vibrant culture, first class accommodation, food to die for and a thrilling adventure playground.

Fowey is a vibrant sailing town set around a beautiful estaury. Just across the Bodinnick Ferry you will find magical country lanes and beaches to explore. Most of the coastline between Fowey and Polperro is owned and protected by the National Trust. Lansallos is a dreamy hamlet set around a 14th Century church with a smugglers' track to the beach. Blanches is one of a small handful of private houses in the area with a view of the sea and its position at the head of a beautiful, almost private valley is second to none. We immediately fell in love with it and if you come you will see why!

"Beautiful Blanches"

Blanches House is the perfect choice for a relaxing family holiday. I arranged a family reunion from Hong Kong, Venice, UK, USA and the French West Indies ranging in age from 4 to 77. Every single person had a wonderful time, each one of us finding something different to entertain in this stunning location. The house is well equipped and very comfortable. We had the added luxury of renting the cottage as well as the house. This was a perfect solution as we had the complete garden to ourselves. The children loved exploring the wonderful garden and everyone enjoyed the fabulous views. We just wish we could have stayed longer than a week and hope to return.

"An absolute joy to stay here"

We had high expectations of Blanches but the reality was even better than we had anticipated. A rural idyll, with beautiful extensive grounds and lovely views of the sea in the distance. The house had everything we could possibly want. There were some really nice touches such as a cream tea on arrival, binoculars for bird spotting, plenty of toiletries in the bathrooms and a plentiful supply of logs for the wood burner. This is a property that is much loved and well cared for. The 2 houses worked well for the 12 of us, 6 couples, with space in the larger house to accommodate all of us at mealtimes, and relaxing together in the living room. And care has been taken to accommodate the needs of any visiting children - there's a treehouse and a rope swing in the grounds - and so much space just to run and play. The grounds are totally enclosed, apart from the main drive entrance, so very safe. It was a joy to walk straight from the property, with no need to resort to our cars. Yes, a bit of a challenge for younger children but it is just a few minutes drive to the nearest beach if it proves too difficult for them. And it's a joy also to sit in the master bedroom, soaking up the views and watching birds feeding at the feeders conveniently placed just outside the kitchen/living room windows. We ate out a couple of times, at pubs in Polperro and Polruan - both fine, but The Lugger in Polruan had a wider menu and a great atmosphere. If you don't want to drive back (narrow twisty roads....) then it's advisable to book a taxi in advance. They get booked up quickly it seems, even out of season.

Many thanks for your kind review. It really is great when we find people who love the place as much as we do. We hope to welcome you many more times. Fowey is another great place for restaurants and it's fun to take the passenger ferry from Polruan. For beach action with small children we drive to the NT car park beyond the church in Lansallos and walk down to the Cove. Harder work coming back uphill but worth it!

"This is a wonderful place for a family holiday"

We loved the houses (adjacent), the huge and well planted garden, the peaceful rural setting and the view down to the sea. There is a very nice atmosphere here - hard to put your finger on but very definitely the case. With a large extended family, including six grandchildren aged 6 and under, everything worked perfectly and the feeling of the place was very relaxed. This may have something to do with the fact that the houses are geared up for children and obviously welcome them rather than tolerate them. Just to pick out some of the delights - separate accommodation for aged grandparents (Blanches Meadow) and any others who didn't want to be woken at crack of dawn; large table for family meals and ditto outside tables; very well equipped kitchen; sandpit, in use within minutes of arrival, lots of outdoor games equipment which everyone made full use of; wonderful garden for children to run wild in; lovely coastal walks (3-year-old managed Llansallos beach back to the house - if you go you'll see that this was quite an achievement). Once ensconced we didn't really feel like going anywhere but if you need food Pelynt has a large, rather oddly laid out Spar (you'll see what I mean) and an excellent butcher. The one frustration was the lack of fishmongers (what is going on?) in the area. We eventually found one in Looe.

Many thanks for the review. We're delighted you love Blanches as much as we do. Good news for 2012: Waitrose now delivers (as well as Tesco) - a great help when providing for the masses. There is an excellent fishmonger in Fore Street, Fowey as well as the one you found near the fish market in Looe... Lastly, we find the easiest way to get small children to the beach is to drive (2 minutes) to the NT car park in Lansallos and walk down the gentle Smugglers' track past the church. Lansallos Cove is a lovely sand/shingle beach with a waterfall and stream to play in and it's good for swimming. Well worth it!
