Description

Completed July 2015 - If you fancy staying somewhere different for a change then why not try our newly completed contemporary barn conversion. We are situated in the heart of the countryside so a car is essential. We have beautiful views across the valley but are 5 mins away from many restaurants, cafes, bars and shops and the medieval towns and villages that the area is famous for. The local medieval town is just 10 mins away by car with at least 6 good restaurants, shops etc and has year round festivals. There are also nocturnal markets held in the town gardens every Thursday evening throughout July and August.

For family fun days out there is Rouffiac which is a large fresh water lake (lifeguard on duty throughout the summer) together with a white sandy beach, where you can do numerous watersports or just go for long walks round the nature reserve, there is also toilets and changing room facilities together with a cafe and restaurant so everything is on hand for a good

There are also many chateaux and medieval villages in the area all well worth a visit, one in particular being Segur-le-Chateau which has the accolade of one of the most beautiful villages in France, there are cafes, bars and restaurants here all perched along a river front together with marked hiking trails through the village and a weekly producers market throughout the summer on a Monday morning.

The barn was built in 1945 just after World War 2 and was built out of the traditional flint that this area of the Dordogne is famous for. We have now transformed it into a contemporary spacious building but still retaining it's character. There are 2 double bedrooms and a twin room - one of the doubles has an en-suite bathroom. All bedrooms have cooling fans for the summer. There is also a family bathroom. We have a sofa bed which can accommodate an extra 2 people. We have English & French Satellite TV and an ipod docking station. Heating is included for winter lets.

There is a West facing patio and BBQ provided, the patio catches the sun from midday until sunset and the pool is next to the barn so it's handy for cooling off. The pool is solar heated and can reach temperatures of 28-30 degrees in the summer, and sits in an acre of private garden. There is also secure gated off road parking. In the adjoining small barn you will find a games room/laundry room equipped with a full size biliiard table and table tennis. There is also a washing machine and drying towers for your laundry.

The area is really quite and a long way from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A holiday in our barn will give you the best of both worlds - a quite relaxing break, or the chance to get out and explore the area as there is enough to see and do here to fill every day - the choice is up to you!

The barn is non smoking and sorry we do not accommodate pets. A welcome pack of tea, coffee, sugar, milk, biscuits and a bottle of wine is provided with our compliments and if there is an evening where you don't fancy going out but don't particularly fancy cooking either then we can offer you an evening meal cooked by our own chef. This would be served either in the gite or "al fresco" whichever you prefer. Details of menus etc are provided in a welcome pack on arrival or we could send you some sample menus by request and are priced at 22 euros per person.

Location description from owner

The Dordogne region

Situated in the beautiful Dordogne, with breathtaking scenery in every direction and long hot summer days. Known for it's chateaux with their immaculately well kept gardens. We are situated not too far from the historic and medieval city of Perigueux for interesting days out and you are never too far away from a busy market town. For a different day out why not try visiting the caves of Tourtairac with it's stalegtites and stalegmites, they also have evening tours where the caves are lit up and is truly spectacular.

Or why not visit Brantome known as the Venice of France. The area is well know for it's gastronomy with the local speciality being locally reared duck, foie gras, walnuts and truffles. There are many restaurants close by all offering the southern flavour of France.

“fantastic barn conversion, wonderful place to chill out and relax”

Reviewed 7 Sep 2015

the barn is well equipped and extremley spacious, lovelely comfy sofas and a well equiped kitchen, satellite tv and internet. Steve and sue have kept the character of the barn but made it very contemporary, light and airy. The bedrooms are a really good size with nice comfy beds- the en-suite was a bonus as well as a family bathroom-loved the spiral staircase and the galleried landind.A decked west facing patio completed the accommodation which had superb views out over the countryside and a nice BBQ which we made the most of. The location was beautifiul with lovely scenery and the pool was heated-perfect! as the weather was really hot and we needed it to cool off now and then. Restaurants and shops were easy to get to in the nearby town and all the sights of the Dordogne were in easy reach. Sue and Steve were very welcoming and did their best tomake us feel at home. All in all a superb holiday enjoyed by all.
