The sitting room with its wood burning stove, plasma TV and surround-sound offers entertainment for the evenings and damp days whilst the separate barn provides a great Games room complete with table tennis, additional TV and the cosiness of a wood burning stove and sofas. In the fine weather the lovely garden with its stunning views is the perfect spot for a BBQ and meal outside.
in fact it is such a special, peaceful place to visit, that it will be hard to leave at the end of your stay.
Middleholms is available to rent throughout the year – from Saturdays to Saturdays; and for long weekends in the low season.

Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Middleholms is located in the middle of Eskdale, which with its majestic, unspoilt landscape, is one of Scotland’s best kept secrets, perfect for walking, cycling, fishing and birdwatching. The area is full of history and interesting places to visit; Hermitage Castle, Hollows Tower from where you can follow the Border Reivers trail, the birthplace of Thomas Telford, and Kagyu Samye Ling the Tibetan Centre & Buddhist monastery.

Langholm

Langholm, birthplace of the poet Hugh MacDiarmid, is a vibrant town with its own arts venue - the Buccleuch Centre, a nine hole golf course, an annual Music and Arts festival and a walking festival. In the winter rugby and football can be enjoyed most Saturdays. Most notably, Langholm’s great day, the Common Riding, takes place annually on the last Friday of July.

“We all agreed we would have changed nothing about Middleholms at all!”

Reviewed 2 Nov 2015

We were a large group of different ages likely to have differing agendas, but there was so much space and Midddleholms was so well equipped that we all got on brilliantly. Comfortable, warm, spacious, great conservatory as a dining room overlooking the terrace with a constant flow of birds to the feeders, masses of room for cars, drying wet clothes - we really would have changed nothing! We were outdoors every day in stunning scenery - and having lovely weather helped too, of course, unless you were the fanatic in the party who needed it to rain to bring some fresh salmon up as far as Langholm!

Owner's reply: Thank-you for your lovely review. We are so pleased you had a good holiday at Middleholms. Do come back again - its lovely even when it rains!

“Just Fantastic”

Reviewed 7 May 2015

Stayed at Middleholms in late April 2015, for what must be the fifth time in the last 4 years and, as always, we all had a fantastic time and the accommodation and facilities were up to their usual very high standard. There were 5 of us staying this time round and we had a great time, managing to cram in so much, including a good hike across the nearby hills (plenty of them to choose from), and ending our walk in Langholm, to take in the annual Rugby Sevens. Ate in town in the evening then back for table tennis in the Middleholms games room. I can't recommend the place highly enough, and we were already planning our next visit, hopefully in the not too distant future, on the way back up the road.

“Absolute perfection”

Reviewed 18 Apr 2012

Wow! This couldn't have worked out better. My wife and I were looking for a bit of a retreat to the country but wanted to be able to invite some friends to join us over the Easter break as and when they were free. This was the perfect solution. Beautiful countryside and a perfectly laid out farmhouse that fitted us all. Peace and quite when you wanted it but also wonderful communal areas (the log burning stove in the lounge and the aga in the kitchen proved to be winners as far as all were concerned). Absolutely up for a return visit as soon as possible!

“Far from the Madding crowd”

Reviewed 22 Jan 2012

What a peaceful, stunning location far from the hub bub of Edinburgh. Great walk into the village across the top of the hills, bit marshy so wellington boots a must. Stunning views and seriously rural location. Langholm has a lovely wee square as a focus point and the cafe serves a welcome tuna baked potato to top up energy levels. Got into the village too late on Saturday for the local health food shop but the Co-op had plenty of supplies. The house itself is extremely comfortable and the dishwasher saved much of the washing up and there was no chance we were going to run out of crockery as the cuboards are maxed. They say the best parties are in the kitchen and the table was the social focus but I escaped to the dining room for some time out at breakfast and enjoyed watching the birds feeding through the large windows, who were oblivious to me. The best bird watching I've ever done. Table tennis in the "Out house" and a wide screen TV in the living room with a gorgeous log burning stove provided more activity and relaxation. I've never stayed in a house for 10 people in such luxury before and one of the highlights is having the local masseur come up to the house to deliver a truly relaxing back rub. Seriously chilled.
