Location description from owner

The Surat Thani Province region

Lamai is the second popular beach after Chaweng and stretches over 4km along the East coast. The beach is not as wide as Chaweng and the sea gets quickly deeper making it perfect for swimming and water sports. At the southern end of the beach the famous Grandfather & Grandmother rock formations called Hin Ta - Hin Yai, stretch their bizarre shapes in the sky.

Restaurants, spas, bars and shopping opportunities are plentiful and the nightlife is just second to Chaweng however generally, Lamai is much more relaxed than Chaweng and perfect for families and couples.

1. Wat Lamai and Cultural Hall :
The Lamai Temple has played host to temple fairs along with weddings, funerals and various religious festivals. It features concerts, fariground games, food and an outdoor cinema. The temple fairs are week-long celebration and are worth seeing if you happen to be in Lamai during one. The Cultural Hall within the temple contains a collection of artifacts from Samui's past.
Located : Samui ring road, Lamai Center

2. Wat Sila Ngu (Khunaram Temple):
Said to contain a relic of the Lord Buddha, the golden chedi facing the temple's entrance is a popular place of worship. Many local travelling shows and even visiting TV stars sometimes use the temple grounds here for their performances. Wat Sila Ngu is on the 4169 ring-road, one kilometer South of Hin-Ta Hin-Yai on the beach side of the road.
Located : on the 4169 ring-road, one kilometer South of Hin-Ta Hin-Yai

3. Lamai Overlap Stone:
An unusual balancing rock in Koh Samui, Thailand. About 150 metres above sea level overlooking Hua Thanon. The panoramic view over Lamai Bay and the east coast of Koh Samui is simply breathtaking.
Located : Follow the road oppostie of Wat Sila Ngu.

4. Grandfather Rock (Hinta - Hinyai)
Strangely shaped rocks at south Lamai. A local story tells of an old couple whose ship was wrecked in the bay. Their body's were washed ashore to create the rocks
Located : Between Lamai and Hua Thanon.
