The Turkish Aegean Coast region
The Aegean Coast possesses some of the most spectacular and significant of Turkey's archaeological sites with a rich cultural legacy from early Greek, Roman and Ottoman civilisations That’s why people regard Turkey as the largest open air museum in the world. The ancient cities of Ephesus and Troy are permeated with the past, where amphitheatres, chariot-rutted streets and columns reek of historical importance. It was here that St Paul laid the foundations for the beginnings of Christianity, and where the face of legendary beauty, Helen of Troy, 'launched a thousand ships'.
Besides historical attractions, the Aegean is known for its magnificent coastal scenery and long stretches of sandy beaches, where pine trees and olive groves clad the hills surrounding. Inland, the calcium-rich mineral springs that surge over the edge of a mountain plateau at Pamukkale form Turkey's leading mineral spa and is one of the most celebrated natural attractions in the area. The Aegean coast is famed for its rich natural produce and every month a new fruit and vegetable is in season on our visit there have been kiwi and strawberries and in an d around the region you will see swarms of olive groves.
The Aegean coast posses everything you could want in a holiday from history and culture to sun and relaxation. Once you begin speaking to the people you will find them extremely hospitable to the extent that many restaurants will happily pick you up and drop you off after a meal.
The climate fluctuates throughout the year although rarely very cold; in the summer temperatures can be as 30c check our website for a month by month breakdown.
Tuzla Lake is formed by the deep inlet from the Gulf of Güllük and Mandalya Bay. This is perhaps one of the most stunning locations in Turkey. Home to a host of ancient ruins the lake is surrounded by mountains covered with olive groves, pine and tamarisk trees. This area is particularly special as a natural bird sanctuary. Throughout the year a large variety of rare birds including flamingos, pelicans and white storks can be seen flocking to the wetlands. The site itself covers two valleys and hillsides, the contours of the land allowing for spectacular views of Tuzla lake, Aegean sea and mountains.
There is a small fishing village of Bogazici that nestles on the shores of Mandalya Bay. The village holds an important place in history as the site of the ancient city of Bargilia. Today a few fish restaurants fringe the seafront offering the day's fresh catch and other Aegean specialities
The sun shines endlessly here from May to October. Whilst the peak summer months of July and August can be quite hot, there is always a lovely sea breeze keeping the temperature very pleasant.
With sea temperatures ranging from 25 to 16 °C between summer and winter, this is a great location for swimming, sailing and watersports at any time of the year.

I booked my holiday through Holidaylettings having lived on the Turquoise Estate in 2009. I was keen to go back but to try the Flamengo site. The payment through the lettings company was very easy and such a smooth transaction i was a little worried at how easy it was. The coomunication from the Owners was great. They answered all enquiries quickly. We booked our flights seperately through Monach and airport transfer through Karia travel in Bodrum. It cost £30 for a return transfer from door to door from the airport to the apartment and again this was surprisingly smooth. The apartment on arrival was clean and the decor was very tidy. The soft furnishing were nicely chosen. I was really pleased with the key safe as it made the whole thing so easy. The area we stayed in was pretty quite, we had the poor practically to ourselves the whole time we were there. Downside, there was no shops open on site to obtain food and we landed at 9.30 so we were hungry by the time we arrived at the apartment. Migros is a bit of a walk but up those hills, definately good for your bum and thighs. My friend and i did a weekly shop that costs us £80 in total. They must still be on 'turkish prices' because that is a bargain compared to shopping in the Carefour near Bodrum. The taxi from Migros to the apartment was 10 lira (aprox 4.50) which we were happy with rather than having to wheel our trolley along the road in stupid degre heat. We ventured out to the Sunset Cafe twice for dinner in the evening. For both of us to eat a two course meal including drinks worked out at 37 lira. Ridiculously cheap! Overall the holiday was exactly what we were looking for. Quiet, peaceful and relaxing. I would not hesitate to book here again and i am thinking of taking friends back next year. Thanks Leona and Rupert :)
Thank you Beverley, hope you use our apartment for future holiday breaks. Best Regards. Leona & Rupert Nelson
