Location description from owner

The Turkish Aegean Coast region

Bodrum is a located off the Aegean and Mediterranean Sea on the southwest coast of Turkey. It is a town where you can relish bits of both contemporary and ancient life, with its history dating back 2000 years. Besides this, its major attractions are the beaches, nightlife, the Museum and galleries in the Bodrum castle and the Mausoleum of Mausolus, which is one of the wonders of the ancient world. Bodrum is a fascinating place as it has a pleasing contrast between the Ancient city - where there are discernable fragments everywhere in the town -and a playground for rich Turks and an array of foreign visitors. It is one of the centres of the Turkish Tourist industry and is the market town for the Bodrum Peninsula which consists of a number of towns and villages nestling on the edge of the Coast. Until the 1960's the town was a fishing village which changed when a number of Turkish intellectuals gathered and wrote about Bodrum with descriptions of the astoundingly clear Blue Seas of the Aegean and the delights of a trip around the coasts adjacent to Bodrum. Bodrum has therefore grown as a sailing destination and thanks to its warm but not humid climate has become a top destination for visitors who enjoy the combination of the ancient past together with all the usual tourist paraphernalia. There are large numbers of shops and restaurants - from humble cafes to exquisite Turkish cuisine served by an array of waiting staff. Modern Bodrum strangely seems to have two contrasting sides to it. The east half of the town has a long thin beach, which has been added in the last few years.. Behind the beach lay all the bars, restaurants, and night clubs that are typical of Mediterranean resort towns. This means open fronted bars that do not come alive until 10pm when everybody goes out. As well as some nice beach fronted bars and clubs. Halikarnas being the obvious one as it is huge (4000 capacity). It also is mostly outdoors and hosts foam parties on regular occasions. The the west side mainly revolves around the Marina and Yacht Club where the lifestyle is a bit more chilled with shops catering mainly to those who have stepped off their boats consisting of supermarkets with proper wine and olive oil, etc. There are a number of nice restaurants if you look hard enough and some good clothes shops. During the evenings there is a wonderful atmosphere as the locals and tourists all seem to come together and enjoy an evening along the sea front. There are many cultural events - notably the Ballet Festival in August, a wide range of pop concerts at the Castle or in the Amphitheatre which has been restored in the last few years, having been built some 2,000 years ago.

Lake Tuzla

Local Attractions And Making The Most Of Your Stay!!Great actvities mean more enjoyable holidays and there is no shortage of things to do or places to visit in BodrumEach and every visit to Bodrum holds the promise of adventure and fun.Bodrum certainly offers way more than just the great night life thats on offer.Bodrum is set in a perfect location to provide any holidaymaker the perfect opportunity to explore the surrounding areas. The sun shines endless here. And after sundown you will enjoy the millions of stars you can count in the sky. You have to experience it to truly understand the beauty of Bodrum. With breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and Lake Tuzla to name a couple, along with the towns fascinating history, Bodrum really is a great place to visit for a wide range of travellers.Although Bodrum is widely reknowned as a summer holiday destination, this popular destination is becoming increasingly popular with visitors in the all seasons of the year. Foremost is the chance to enjoy its attractions more intimately by avoiding the lively high seasons. Unlike many holiday resorts Bodrum does not close up after the summer comes to an end but continues an active life of its own. The colorful bazaars/markets are open as usual on their scheduled days, temperatures remain pleasant and the locals have more time for each visiting guest.During Spring the cool, sunny days are ideal for hiking and sightseeing. The bustle of the boatyards launching yachts is a fascinating attraction and even Children's Day (April 23rd) festivities are a sight to see.Autumn begins with the Bodrum Cup Traditional Wooden Yacht Regatta which is held annually in Bodrum where you can see a hundred stately wooden yachts under full canvas is a sight to behold as you experience the calm waters and cooler temperatures, it's an ideal opportunity to enjoy a spot of sailing. With the Aegean sea remaining warm for swimming and the cooler weather allowing you more time to visit historical and natural sites or to buy up bargains at end-of-season sales!During Winter, Bodrum celebrates both Christmas and New Year just like the rest of us, revelers from all over Turkey making New Year's Eve a memorable occasion. Snow is unknown to Bodrum but there may be a chance of a chill, but this is a small price to pay to experience the seasons festive activities around the towns. Camel wrestling is the prime season attraction (beginning January) and the tangerine orchards are well worth a viewing.Daily ExcursionsPamukkalePamukkale is one of the natural wonders of the world. It is a unique wonder that was formed over 14,000 years ago. The spring water here has therapeutic qualities and has been said to cure rheumatism, kidney and heart diseases. It is a definate must see !EphesusEphesus is one of the ancient cities in the world with a history dating back to the 1100s. Ephesus was an important city for trade and religion, which during the Roman period, it's population reached approximately 250,000. Ephesus is home to one of the seven wonders of the world, the Temple of Artemis and is also the site of one of the Seven Churches of Revelation.Ephesus is where Saint Paul lived and preached for about 2 years in Ephesus. Again a definite must see !DalyanDalyan is where the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas meet and boasts a lovely place to relax and gather some sun on its long and sandy beach. This beach is one of the few beaches left on the Mediterranean coastline where Loggerhead turtles lay their eggs. Dalyans main attraction and a personal favourite of mine is the popular mud baths containing sulphur. The mud baths are said to make you look 10 years younger and more beautiful. I cant guarantee this but definately worth a try don't you think!?Rock-cut tombs and the ancient city of Caunos dating back to early 300s are also interesting to see.Village TripsVillage Trips is a wonderful opportunity to see the traditional lifestyle and how Turkish people live. On such trips you can see carpet weavers and beautiful carpets. Enjoy a delicious village lunch and taste real Turkish food and experience the atmosphere of town markets and everyday life for Turkish villagers. It is certainly a very cultural and educational trip. One of these villages, Milas was once the capital of the Caria region. Today, it is a very interesting little town, with historic and memorable buildings from the Hellenistic, Roman and Ottoman periods. Just to walk around the town and explore it for yourself is a treat in itself. If you enquire or choose the right day you could be lucky enough to experience the famous Milas Market which is a bonus too and a chance to snap up a bargain or interesting souvenir. This is an opportunity to haggle for yourself and see if you can really get it for ‘Cheaper than Asda price' as you will hear from plenty of the market trader there. Market days listed below. Not to be missed!Monday : Konacik, GolkoyTuesday : BodrumWednesday : Ortakent, Gundogan, GumuslukThursday : YalikavakFriday : BodrumSaturday : TurgutreisSunday : GumbetSun, Sea and SandIf its a nice relaxing day your after to enjoy the heat and sun of turkey then Bodrum is certainly the place to go.Dont forget your sunglasses, suncream, hats and water as you experience any of the numerous beaches along the coastline of the crystal clear Aegean Sea.Some of the beaches on offer are Bitez, Bagla, Karaincir, Ortakent, Gumusluk, Turgutreis, Yalikavak and Gundogan. If its snorkelling and scuba diving that take your interest then the Aegean Sea is the ideal place to do so with its calmness and ideal temparature making it perfect for diving and snorkelling without the worry of tides or currents. Off the coast of the Bodrum Peninsula, there are various interesting spots for divers including places like Black Island, Wolf's Point, Big Reef, Small Reef, the Light House, Pacoz Bay and Orak Island, Catal Island, Topan Island and many more. There is a wide variety of marine life on offer in these areas including parrot fish, groupers, sea bream, moray eels, octopus, tuna, amber jack, barracuda and if you are very lucky you may see a Mediterranean monk seal ( Monacus Monacus ). There are also someshipwrecks around the Bodrum peninsula too. Why not see if its your lucky day and let us know what you find!?Watersports and GolfOn site watersports on the private beach offer you an endless variety of water sports such as Parasailing, Water Skiing, Canoeing, Banana Riding, Jet Ski, Ringo and so on.GolfIf you are a bit of a keen golfer then look to Bodrum for the opportunity to play golf on the Turkish Riviera. The golfing area has been designated in the Lake Tuzla region, a major stopping-off point for migratory birds such as the pelican and flamingo which arrive in their 1000's between October and April each year. This coincides with the optimum time for enjoying golf in Bodrum so you will be able to enjoy wonderful wildlife in addition to some great golf. The nearby Vita Park Golf Resort, which opened in July 2009, is the first major golf course to open on the Bodrum peninsula. Touching the edges of wildlife paradise Tuzla Lake near Gulluk, Vita Park Golf is designed as a 36-hole resort in both Scottish links and Arizona styles. The first course is the Milas-71, a par-71 18-hole golf course which hugs the contours of Lake Tuzla. The course is 5,850 meters long and offers the charm and challenge of an Old World course with a feel that is reminiscent of traditional Scottish links. The Milas-71 course is a pay & play course. The 2nd course, Halikarnas par-71, a 6,480 meters course with its own private driving range, its lush native landscaping and flowing creeks and waterfalls to tantalize golfers' senses, while designed with a dramatic Arizona golf course look because of its topographic features. Classic-style bunkering with bold flashes of native white sand will complement the occasional stacked sod wall edges. The Halikarnas course is a very challenging layout from the tournament tees- a world- class championship golf course suitable for prestigious national and international events. The finishing 18th-hole, 425 meters, surrounded by a natural amphitheater with its protected pine trees, dramatic waterfalls, and elevated 32 meters green from the back tee crowns the Halikarnas championship golf course. Designed to test even the most accomplished player, the Halikarnas-71 will become one of the most sought after courses in Turkey. To complete the experience, 6 hectares have been dedicated to a Golf Academy, which features unrivalled practice and training conditions, facilities, and services, a wide double-ended practice range, including numerous target greens and bunkers and several short game areas and putting greens. Many shots found on the golf course can be practiced here at the Golf Academy, which also features state-of-the-art instructional technology and V1 video equipment for total swing analysis and game improvement. This system allows members to monitor their progress from week to week.NightlifeWhether its the crazy nightlife or a more civilised evening out is what you are after, Bodrum has it all. With a bus service running from the complex into Bodrum and returning until as late as 4am, some may say it would be rude not to.Bodrum offers a wide mixture of bars, nightclubs, restaurants and cafeswhere you can have fun and enjoy live music, rock, techno, hiphop, Turkish pop and so on.Start on Cumhuriyet caddesi (street) in the center and walk along by the sea till the world famous Halikarnas Night Club comes into view (if you can still see at this point)If its not the wild night your after why not visit Bodrum for a more traditional evening with Folk Dancing from different parts of the country and a visit to Turkey wouldn't be complete without the Belly Dancers too.Whatever you decide Bodrum caters for all and promises to be a great night whatever you do.Be careful with the drink Raki, it has 45% alcohol in it. Dedeman WaterparkWhy not try white water rafting on a 350 meter river or indulge in a day of child-like fun in this 65,000 square meter waterpark? This gigantic water park is the perfect place to take the family and escape the heat. At 65,000square metres, it's large enough for a whole day of fun. It's just on the outskirts on Bitez or 5 mins past Bodrum and can be reached by dolmus(local bus). With 23 slides, a 350 meter river with artificial waves, pools and restaurants.Whether you fancy a race down the inside of the cliffs in the frothing waters of the wild river, or plunge into the surf of the wave pool, both options are just two of the many reasons to visit this local attraction. Then, when you feel exhausted and can't take anymore, why not sit back and relax at the disco whilst enjoying the latest Balkan pop songs or enjoy a tasty meal at the restaurant.Jeep SafarisJeef safari's are available as an excursion to add a little bit of adventure and a little of adrenalin to your stay with us..Why not fill in your day with this great excursion.
