The Occitanie region

Fascinating area offering much variety. Discover the lesser known South of France; historically rich with its awe inspiring Cathar castles in rugged landscape and the Cité of Carcassonne the only surviving Medieval town in Europe. Take a walk along the leafy Canal du Midi or jump on board for an afternoon cruise.

Take in a dégustation of wine at one of the very many cellars and eat a local dish such as cassoulet.
There are many beaches all different in character. Ranging from the popular ones catering for families and children like St Pierre near Narbonne to the more exciting like La Franqui which is the host to the World Wind surfing Championships and also offers Kite surfing and sand yachting

Expect the weather to be hot in summer, though there is often a cooling and welcome breeze also. There is always much on offer in the summer months - festivals and concerts, sometimes with free admission.

Lagrasse

Lagrasse is a buzzing town in summer; (expect less activity in Spring and Autumn.) Local events include a regular music festival and a pottery fair. Every year there are visiting artists and the best way to be informed is a visit to the Tourist Office. Local produce and goodies from the regular Saturday market and leatherwork, pottery and art from the local artists.

Swim in the river with the 11th century abbey de Sainte Marie d'Orbieu as a backdrop, sometimes also the venue for summer concerts and entertainment. There are many walks out into the vineyards and surrounding countryside, or along the river. Horse riding and cycling possibilities also.

A variety of good restaurants offering al fresco dining and drinking. Ideal base for exploring towns, castles, and beaches of the area.
