Location description from owner

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

This region probably has the warmest climate in France and with its combination of Mediterranean beaches and Pyrenean mountains one of the most diverse. The rugged Corbieres and its complex geology are a perfect place for walking, biking, climbing or exploring. The many Cathar ruins and fortified towns are well worth a visit. The Mediterranean sea and its long sandy beaches are a great attraction for adults and children alike, water parks and seaside activities abound. The coastal salt water lagoons are excellent for those who wish to windsurf or sail. Carcassonne's famous walled "La Cite" is a must see as are the very historic Narbonne and Perpignan. One thing the region is famous for is its wine. With a huge range of quality wines available at low prices it's the perfect place to try the many appellations of the south. Many vineyards and caves offer tours and tastings, so if you have an interest in wine or just like to drink it, you couldn't be in a better place.

Lagrasse

Lagrasse is voted one of the prettiest villages in France, for good reasons. With the river Orbieu running through its heart, the ancient stone bridge connecting the village to the Abbey and its wealth of historic buildings it really is a step back into the past. Today, it is a thriving village with good restaurants and bars and all the facilities needed for an enjoyable holiday. It is well situated for exploring the region and its attractions.Within a short distance there are numerous sporting activities, museums, galleries and of course during the summer months many villages around have special fetes, one even with bulls running the streets. Lagrasse celebrates Bastille Day with its own firework display on the 13th July the day before the spectacular Carcassonne display. Last year a resort hotel spa opened in a neighbouring village a few minutes’ drive away, where they have facilities for all manner of pampering with sauna’s, gyms, pools, body and beauty treatments and of course a restaurant and bar.If fine dining is your thing, there are several award winning restaurants in the locality, notably “Le Vieux Puits” in Fontjoncousse that has just been awarded its third Michelin star.

“Great view, perfect location.....pictures in ad don't do either justice”

Reviewed 29 Jul 2013

We had booked this place based on our interest in staying in Lagrasse, and because the price seemed quite reasonable. The pictures on the site were okay, but certainly not compelling. When we arrived at the house, it was ....wow. The deck area is great, complete with its own lavender, and sitting right there across the river from you is the Abbey. The bedroom windows have this same view of the Abbey gardens. And the constant sound of the river, birds, and absence of sounds of traffic was calming. We were quite happy with the experience as a whole, and certainly got value for what we spent. I don't think you could find a better view in the whole town than we had from that deck and bedrooms.
