Location description from owner

The Algarve region

Local activities within a 10 minute drive include horse riding, tennis, golf, bowls, sailing, boat trips, dolphin watching, deep sea fishing, jeep safaris, scuba diving and microlighting, to mention but a few. The countryside immediately surrounding the Quinta is a paradise for birdwatchers and walkers alike. A little further afield, on the road to the fishing village of Burgau, there is a sports centre offering tennis, squash, aerobics and a gym. There are two waterslide parks within easy reach and a visit to the Zoo Marine park is a must - swim with dolphin in a safe, controlled environment. A short drive north-west through the picturesque countryside leads to the wild and rugged West coast where deserted, secluded beaches can still be found even in the height of summer. A drive inland from Odiáxere through olive groves and eucalyptus trees leads to the crystal clear waters of the Bravura Dam. A trip to Monchique with its picturesque spa town takes about 45 minutes through scenic countryside. A little further on is Foia, the highest point on the Algarve, where cool mountain air brings relief from the sun-drenched beaches and from where the views are spectacular. Discover villages in the area which have remained untouched for centuries.

Lagos

With its castle walls, narrow, cobbled streets, pottery shops and numerous pavement cafes from which to watch the world go by, Lagos has a relaxed atmosphere and quiet charm, making it one of the most appealing locations in the Algarve. The ancient castle walls , built in the 16th century, used to completely surround the city, but most of Lagos and its walls were destroyed in the great earthquake of 1755. At the entrance to the harbour, the recently restored 17th Century fortress is worth a visit. Heading west from the fortress, a scenic cliff top path stretches for several miles along a string of tiny beaches and rock formations, offering beautiful views of the coastline along the way. To the East, across the river, is 4km long Meia Praia beach. Long ago, many naval battles were fought in its bay.

“Excellent place to stay - Colin & Sue thought of everything and the pictures really don't do it justice!”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2012

We have recently returned from our trip to Quinta Bavaria and can't recommend it highly enough. The apartment we stayed in was bigger than the photos suggested, and the pool and gardens are just lovely. We hadn't visited the Algarve before, but this was a perfect location for us with our 2 year-old son. The pool was heated which was one of the reasons for choosing Quinta Bavaria, and great for Christopher, and for us too, since the Atlantic sea is pretty chilly! Also, Sue had put out a cot, highchair and even some toys for us, which was a godsend. They'd thought of everything in the kitchen and it was very well equipped, with everything you could possibly need. It was clean, well laid out, and we loved the enormous bathroom and the great balcony! Colin and Sue were very welcoming, and one of the best things was thire list of local tips that came with the booking, which we followed religiously. It was also in a great location for us - perfectly secluded, yet close enough to Lagos, and some of the other pretty towns and villages in the region for restaurants. We did need a car, although car hire is very reasonable from Faro airport and and definitely worth it to explore the area and western beaches (one of their tips). Many thanks. PS I don't usually every write reviews, so hopefully that's saying something in itself!

“Peaceful, Tranquil & Relaxing.”

Reviewed 14 Jun 2012

Having stayed in the Colina Villa August 2011 and again the first week of June 2012, our experience was one of complete relaxation, Colin and Sue are excellent hosts, nothing is too much trouble. The Villa, although the smallest of them all is very comfortable and clean and maintained to a very high standard, it has a good view onto a small quiet section of garden through the patio door. From the kitchen there's a view across to the hills. It would be easy to spend the entire holiday in the grounds as they are so peaceful, with use of the pool and ample sun lounge lawn, and 'picnic' table area. Odiaxsere is a small village within easy walking distance from the Villa, it gives you an opportunity to see the real rural Portugal. To the west, Lagos is a short twenty minute drive away, offering the attraction of a large town and Marina. There are a number of trips available to go dolphin spotting, we went with 'Day of Adventure', highly recommended. About an hour further west is the 'End of the World', Capo de Sao Vincent, the most westerly point of main land Europe before the Americas. Going east of the villa, there's the delightful town of Avor. All these place boast restaurants to cater for every taste. We would have no hesitation in recommending this delightful Villa to anyone seeking a quiet holiday in the relaxing tranquil surrounding of Quinta Bavaria, Vale de Lama. Muito obrigado to Sue & Colin.

“A quality place to stay - you get what you pay for”

Reviewed 18 Jun 2011

We stayed with Colin and Sue Hepple at Quinta Bavaria in May 2011. Our apartment was 'Colina' and was the smallest of available apartments. Everything was provided and apartment furnishings were of high quality. Privacy was guaranteed. On arrival your fridge is stocked with a variety of essentials such eggs, milk, butter, cheese, bread etc - plus a bottle of cold white wine so that you can settle in without having to immediately rush out for a grocery shop. All apartments have their own BBQ set. There are a number of fruit trees in the garden and guests are encouraged to help themselves to whatever fruit is in season. We survived on large glasses of fresh orange juice which we picked before breakfast each morning! The grounds are impeccably kept by Colin and his workmen and are truly beautiful (don't forget to take your camera along). There is also a large, heated swimming pool for residents. Quinta Bavaria if a short walk from Odiaxere and about 12 minutes drive from Lagos on the Algarve coast. Some might feel a bit 'rural' at Quinta Bavaria but for us this was far better than staying in amongst a horde of tourists in the coastal resorts. We walked a lot and really enjoyed the exercise. Colin and Sue can also arrange inexpensive, and fully inclusive, car hire prior to your arrival. One could probably find more inexpensive accommodation in the Algarve but you get what you pay for and everything provided is of particularly high standard. Colin and Sue were always very willing to help out if there was anything needed or an urgent errand to be run. We will certainly return to Quinta Bavaria!

If you are looking for a great apartment within a well appointed villa....in its own grounds and gardens,( where you can pick your own fruit.)...a heated swimming pool....security coded gates... beautiful countryside....short walk to the local village ..with its small shops ,market ,bakery and local resturants...also within a short drive or bus into the beautiful Moorish town of Lagos.....looked after by very caring and friendly English owners....then this is the holiday for you.! Golfers are also well catered for....within easy reach of Pennina, Palmeres and Boa Vista golf courses. My family and friends have returned to Quinta Bavaria many times...once you have experienced it ..you too, will not be able to resist returning!!
