Description

Holm Oak Barn is a sympathetically converted 19th century grade 2 listed barn with a spacious beamed vaulted sitting/dining room with kitchen area containing a wood burning stove and picture windows with views across the surrounding nature reserve. The barn has parking immediately outside connected with a block paving path to the front door with no steps. The barn is all on one level with wheelchair access in mind. All 3 bedrooms have en suite bathrooms one of which is a wet room fitted with a shower bench and disabled toilet. Situated within the award winning Lackford Lakes Barns holiday complex, Holm oak barn has its own patio area with ample seating, parking, use of shared landscaped gardens, games room and laundry room. The barns are surrounded by the beautiful Lackford Lakes Nature Reserve, famous for its migratory birds and wildlife only 5 miles from historic Bury St Edmunds.

From here families can enjoy the reserve, listen to the owls, cuckoos, nightingales, star gaze and watch the birds, deer, rabbits and even badgers if they are lucky! They can also visit Newmarket, famous for its horse racing, Cambridge, Norwich, historic Bury St Edmunds and the beautiful Suffolk villages of Lavenham, Clare and Long Melford. The Suffolk and Norfolk Coasts are also easily accessible.

“An ideal family venue for a significant Birthday”

Reviewed 4 Oct 2018

Lovely ,quiet and well equipped barn . All you need for a family of 6 to meet and celebrate a birthday . Ideally located next to Lackford Lakes Country Park .for long walks and talks . and has the benefit of a great games room too!

Owner's reply: Thank you, we love our games room too. The walks have got better and better over the years, especially now that Suffolk wildlife trust has bought more land and opened walks across distant fields. You can now walk from the door step to West Stow Country Park and The Kings Forest if you wish.

“Great stay”

Reviewed 28 Aug 2018

A lovely barn to stay with friends. Spacious main living area and open plan kitchen. Lovely surroundings next to the nature reserve. Bedrooms on the small side but great they all had en suite. A few niggles that would improve the stay; items such as bin bags, foil, salt/pepper not provided. Would have been helpful.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your review and feedback. I'm so sorry that you didn't find bin bags, foil, salt and pepper as these are all items that we normally provide. I'll make sure that they are renewed. Best wishes, Emma

“Splendid accomodation in a lovely rural location within the Lackford nature reserve.”

Six of us enjoyed a great family long weekend over five days. The quality of the barn conversion is outstanding and the furnishing and equipment are excellent. The wet room is excellent if one of you is an elderly relative who needs special assistance. We enjoyed walking around the reserve, you don't have to be a 'twitcher' to enjoy the wildlife and the peace. We also enjoyed a day in Bury St Edmunds with it's cathedral, abbey gardens, and old town. If you are in Bury the Pilgrims Cafe at the Cathedral is a good place to re-fuel at lunch time. We would definitely go again.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for your review. We're so pleased that you enjoyed Holm Oak, it's comforts as well as walks around the nature reserve. We're lucky to be so close to beautiful, historic Bury St Edmunds. Market day is a vibrant day to visit the town and occurs each Wednesday and Saturday. There's also a fabulous Christmas market every year at the end of November which draws visitors from far and wide.

“Fabulous”

Second visit, second time of being impressed, the photos do not do justice to the barns. A stunning location with beautifully converted barns, well stocked and maintained. A glorious little hideaway with plenty to do and see very close by. I cannot praise the place or people high enough.

Owner's reply: Gosh, thank you for such a lovely review! We're so pleased that you chose to return. The gardens get better and more established each year.I think we need to update our photos to reflect how the barns have improved over time.

“nice Barn and stunning lakeside”

Reviewed 8 Aug 2017

Very nice Barn and stunning lakeside nearby. We enjoyed our stay. Trip to Bury St. Edmund was also very nice.

Owner's reply: The Lakes are stunning and we are so lucky to have such good access to them.Bury St Edmunds is only 5 miles away and has a beautiful medieval centre. Thank you for taking time to write a review, please come again.

Very lovely house and peaceful place!Courtyard area is beautiful. A little bit of firewood.I would have liked cleaning equipment, couldn't sweep the floor. One of the rooms was ice cold. Anyway, we really enjoyed the house and the fireplace!

Owner's reply: I'm glad you enjoyed the house and courtyard garden. The heating is underfloor and there are adjustable thermostats in each room so I'm sorry that one of the rooms felt cold for you. I hope you managed to warm it up in the end. There is cleaning equipment under the kitchen sink and in each bathroom. There should also be a Hoover, mop and broom in the back of a wardrobe in the twin bedded room. I'll have to check and make sure it's there for future use. Best wishes

“Just perfect”

Reviewed 14 Feb 2016

We were delighted with this property. Extremely well equipped, clean and very good quality. Warm and inviting with good sized rooms, comfy beds and a tranquil setting. It was nice that there was space and enough comfy seating for the whole party to sit together in the evenings. A lovely welcome pack on arrival and everything has been well thought through. It was also great to be able to walk to the nearby wildlife reserve too. All in all excellent.

Owner's reply: Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We really appreciate it and pleased that you enjoyed the comfortable bed, welcome pack and walks around the nature reserve.

“Holm Oak Barn - a perfect setting in the Suffolk Countryside”

Everything about Holm Oak Barn, including the beautiful Suffolk countryside and the owner's care and attention to detail was first class. A perfect location for our weekend family get-together. Highly recommended and without doubt on our list to return in the near future.

“Everything we needed!”

Reviewed 22 Feb 2015

Stayed here for a long weekend so we could attend a wedding locally and were really impressed with the location and the property. The house was very clean and our every need had been anticipated.....not easy when there were 3 generations of us! We only stayed for a long weekend but enjoyed being close to Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge. Would love to stay here again and explore more of the countryside and have recommended it to all our friends.

“Clean and comfortable accomodation in a great location.”

I stayed at Holm Oak Barn with my family for a long weekend. The accomodation was clean, well appointed and very comfortable. The kitchen had everthing we needed to cook lots of great meals. The location was good and it was nice to be able to walk to the adjoining nature reserve.

Owner's reply: since your stay we are very pleased to have received a 4 star rating and Gold award from visit England
