This grade 2 listed barn has been sympathetically renovated to a high standard and has been awarded a 4 star rating with a gold award from visit England. It is situated in a large enclosed and landscaped courtyard garden which has access to a well equipped games room, surrounded by Suffolk Wildlife Trust's Lackford Lakes Nature reserve which is a birdwatchers paradise. Wildlife is all around, many migratory birds come to Lackford Lakes and from here you can enjoy the sound of owls, nightingales, turtle doves, Canada geese and deer. Here you can really get away from it all yet the beautiful historic town of Bury St Edmunds is only 5 miles away and the racing town of Newmarket is 12 miles away. Ely, Cambridge, Norwich, the suffolk coast and Norfolk coasts are all easily within reach.

We are a 40 minute drive from London (Stansted) airport, 7miles from Bury St Edmunds train stations where frequent trains travel to Cambridge and beyond. we are well connected by motorway being only 2 miles off the A14/A11

“Cosy, comfortable retreat”

We stayed in Lark Lodge for an autumn short break. The weather had turned chilly but the cottage was warm and welcoming and beautifully appointed. Lovely grounds (flowers still in bloom amazingly) and a lovely area to wander in. Would definitely come back.

Owner's reply: The underfloor heating ensures that the cottages are really warm. We're keen gardeners and there always seems to be something in blood - even in December and January the garden is in bloom! Please do come again, many of our guests keep coming back which is lovely.

Can not recommend this enough pics don’t do it justice.tge barn is out of this world with everything you could ever need and situated on some lovely grounds.

Excellent, clean and spacious cottage in a beautiful part of the Suffolk countryside. Well equipped with good Wi-Fi access and all the amenities needed for a perfect long weekend break. If you like wildlife/birding it would be very difficult to better this location which is on the doorstep of Lackford Lakes. Only (very minor) point for improvement would be to update the recommended places for eating out - several of which had now closed.

We were 3 couples travelling from Norfolk, Kent and Berkshire - some found the accommodation easier to find than others, but that was due to sat nav directions. Having said that, we found the site easy for travel into Bury St Edmunds on Saturday & Sunday, where we parked at the RamsMeadow car park, which had lots of spaces, was good value for money and a pleasant walk through the Abbey Gardens to the town centre. On the Saturday morning we enjoyed a great walk from the doorstep to the Lackford Lakes Nature Reserve, which was very relaxing. The visitors centre had many attractive features and enthusiastic and friendly staff/volunteers. We also enjoyed a delicious group meal at The Fox in Bury St Edmunds on the Sunday as a pre Christmas celebration. To be recommended! The accommodation was warm, clean, comfortable & spacious, with the added features of a Christmas tree, Christmas lights in the courtyard and a very welcome pack of refreshments and mince pies on arrival, which provided a lovely friendly touch. It was a really safe, relaxing and warm place to stay. We also enjoyed the games room which provided a variety of games equipment, which would be especially great in case of bad weather (indoor table tennis, table football and pool) or in case of good weather there was an equally good variety of outdoor games. I would certainly consider returning to this lovely location in the future.

Lovely conversion - comfortable, clean, well stocked with kitchen equipment, iron etc. Very efficient heating (a bit hot at times). Laundry room well equipped and available 24 hours. Just the right size for 4 adults. Friendly, helpful owners and housekeeper who all responded quickly when they were called. Lovely grounds (with resident peacock) and a stone's throw away from the Nature Reserve - well worth a visit. You can also walk to the Anglo-Saxon Village at West tow - about 5 mile round trip. Fantastic headquarters for a family re-union over the Christmas/New Year period.

Lark Lodge was so well insulated during the convertion that the heat doesn't escape like one might expect from an old building. “A charming oasis.”

I feel very lucky to have found Lark Cottage. Its set in a gorgeous location next to a wildlife sanctuary, yet still really close to all amenities. The cottage itself was very clean and comfortable and surprisingly more light and spacious than it looked online - it comfortably accommodated our family of 5. The owner Emma greeted us on arrival and made us feel very welcome; it was lovely to find a welcome pack, and lots of toys, board games and reading material. The place was very quiet and peaceful and had a nice outdoor space which would be great for dining outdoors in the summer.Unfortunately we didn't have time to use the games room but if we had stayed longer it would have been a definite hit! All in all, a really lovely cottage for a family and a great base for exploring the surrounding area.

We have stayed in three out of the four cottages and all are unique. Something to suit everyone. There is a separate laundry room and games room, which are a short walk across the quad. The televisions and appliances are quite old and some may need updating. The level of cleanliness was disappointing. With only a minimum done between change overs. The underfloor heating is lovely, but can be a bit difficult to use, we found it was hard to get the perfect constant temperature. The owners are extremely friendly and amenable and it's a nice touch to have some basics like bread and milk waiting for you on arrival. Having a small child is not a problem our son loved it there, especially the wonderful wildlife all around, as the lakes are a short walk away.
