Location description from owner

The Istria region

The house itself is nestled in the hills & vineyards between the Town of Labin (2.5km) and the beaches of Rabac (3km) in the village of Ripenda Kras. Labin is an Old mining/Venetian town full of art galleries, fine restaurants & cafe bars. The area is full of vineyards & beautiful countryside ideal for long walks or bike rides. Only 3km to the pebbled beaches of Rabac known as The Jewel of Kravner bay; perfect for scuba diving & Sailing. Season lasts from April to October for swimming. For young families on the beach there are children land and sea activates, such as trampolines, small go karts, table tennis, crazy golf, Croatia.s largest aquarium in Veradula near Pula, worth a visit. You will also find a Zip wire park near Pula. For the not so little. Go horse riding, mountain biking or road bike on the main trails all clearly marked, get a map from the any tourist agency in Labin/Rabac. The scuba diving is world class with many sunken war ships in the bay. Try the jet skies or hire a boat. Go sailing. If your feeling lucky Try your hand in the many casinos Opatia has to offer. Eat world famous cake on the terraces of the hotels or sip cocktails in the many beach areas. For a little luxury on the beach take a short drive to the Ernest Hemmingway beach and get your cocktails brought to your 4 poster sun bed. The gastronomy in the area is wonderful with many restaurants to choose from to suit your budget and taste. The climate is Mediterranean with Summer temperatures in the high season getting to the mid 30% and the season will start from mid April to mid October with the sea being warm enough to swim in till then. The water is crystal clear making snorkeling a great pastime. As the beaches are made up generally of small stones you may need to bring your beach shoes but you don't need to worry about the sand going into your sandwiches! Whilst sitting on the beach soaking up the rays enjoy the views of the islands all-around you and the blue skies and relax and enjoy yourself.

Labin

As Labin is the Art capital of Croatia there are an abundance of art galleries and exhibitions going on all year. Check out one artist Vinko Saina for his beautiful contemporary paintings. He also owns the Galleria Alvona in old Labin where he hosts other artists works. Check with the tourist agency in Labin/Rabac for the many festivals going on throughout the year. Such as Wine festivals, concerts, theatrical/acrobatic/dance performances. These take place in the Old town and in Rabac in the harbour. Check the concert calendar for the amphitheater in Pula and get your tickets before you travel. They have the big names in the music industry performing there. If bike riding interests you the Tour of Croatia comes through Labin check out the dates for this. There are many bicycle races organized in the region so check with the bike shop beside 'Sidro ' the tourist agency just on the road before you go up the hill to Labin. There are show jumping competitions if horses interest you. If you want to experience what the countryside has to offer try the Agricultural Centre in the center of Istria about 40 minutes drive from house and they will teach you to cook the Istrian way, bake bread, taste the wine from the vineyard and take you on a horse trail through the valleys. If speed is what you want go Go Karting near Pula. If shopping is what you want go to Rijecka or visit the designer outlets near Trieste (2 hour drive). There is a 5 star Golf and spa resort in Umag (1 hour drive) this overlooks the Bay of Trieste and is beautiful. A round of Golf is not expensive I'm told comparatively speaking (prices starts at €40). For the ladies the many wellness centres in the hotels and town are all reasonably priced and the staff are highly trained, but book early as they are busy. Every 3rd Wednesday of the month there is a large street market held in Labin behind the open market where this is open daily till 1pm to buy fresh fish, fruit and veg and good meat. You have a choice of supermarkets the nearest one being Lidl (open till 11pm) , Mercator & Plodine. Banks, Post office, café bars and restaurants all in Labin. Change your currency Kuna here as you will get a better rate this way.

“A beautiful break”

Reviewed 14 Sep 2013

This is a wonderful house with all the facilities you could need for a great holiday; your own pool and BBQ area, modern clean and elegant rooms inside. Croatia is a beautiful country and this is a great location. You will need a car but the town of Labin with restaurants and shops is then only 5 mins drive and the beach less than 10mins. The local food and wine are cheap and excellent and the people are incredibly friendly. We drove to a local farm and vineyard where we selected our wine, having of course tasted quite a few first. The owner of the property is extremely helpful and accommodating and I am looking forward to a return visit.

Thank you for your kind words. Im so happy you enjoyed yourselves. regards Dee

“Idyllic Setting”

Reviewed 14 Sep 2013

Myself and my girlfriend had the pleasure of renting this beautiful modern property. It is located in a beautiful and idyllic rural area in close proximity to the old town of Labin and the beaches of Rabac. We love this place so much that we have spent our holidays there for 2 successive years and fully intend to keep the trend going.

Thank you for your kind words. Croatia is a beautiful place. Rabac certainly has the best beaches in Istria. Very happy that you enjoyed your stay. Look forward to a return visit from you. cheers Dee
