The Pays de la Loire region

Blue Flag Sandy Beaches (10 minutes away by car)
The fantastic sandy beaches are over 13 kilometres long - and 8 kilometres of them face due south. La-Tranche-sur-Mer and Les Conches are ideal for families with children. They are approved as a "Kids Station", which means that the resort is a safe environment for children to play in. It also has specialist equipment and entertainments which specifically cater for families.

Great Quad Bike/karting experience (2 minutes away by car)
Let the kids (and indeed the big boys!) be the next Lewis Hamilton or Jenson Button for a while! Whiz around the course and have a great thrill trying to beat your opponents. For safety reasons, the kids go on the course only with other children and the safety briefing is excellent. Whilst they are having fun on the track, the rest of the party can have a nice coffee in the covered terrace area. www.vendee-kart.fr

Indian Forest Adventure (5 minutes away by car)
This great theme park has marked trails in a forest, as well as 122 different challenges. Suspended on safety harnesses, you are able to climb, swing, dismount and even slide across the forest at a height of 20ft above the ground. There is also an adventure area for toddlers, with themed bouncy castles, a ball park, rock climbing and an inflatable park. This is an excellent day out for both children and adults and is just 5 minutes from our gites. www.indian-forest-atlantique.com

Sporting activities on the beach (10 minutes away by car)
The beach at La-Tranche-sur-Mer has a 6-hectare area of water for water sports. The "Cercle Nautique Tranchais" (CNT) offers sailing, windsurfing, kite-surfing and sand-sailing. The area is also superb for boating and surfing enthusiasts
www.perso.orange.fr/CNT/

Adventure Park & Chateau (15 minutes away by car)

Get all the answers correct at the end the children get to open the treasure chest which holds a special reward for them. The park is set in 86 hectares of ancient trees, rows of menhires and wonderful animals such as deer, horses, ponies, swans and geese. www.chateau-aventuriers.com

Excellent golf courses (30 minutes away by car)
France is one of Europe's most popular golfing holiday destinations. It has over 25 of the Top 100 golf courses in Europe - and many golfers are now choosing to play in France rather than the traditional Spanish golf resorts. French golf courses are of an exceptionally high standard, are competitive and are well managed. We have 5 courses within easy reach! www.formule-golf.com

Aquarium La Rochelle (1hr away by car)
This is a 2 hour journey into the depth of the ocean - The kids will just love it. There are over 10,000 Atlantic, Mediterranean and Tropical species to view in an amazing 3 million litres of water. The huge shark aquarium with 20 different species was amazing if not a little frightening . An excellent day out, probably one of the best aquariums you will ever visit. www.aquarium-larochelle.com/index.php?id_site=2

Dunes Adventure Park (1hr away by car)
With over 38 different activities for the children to play on, the kids are bound to find a favourite! The kids will thoroughly enjoy everything on offer especially the water slides, trampolines (fully enclosed) and toboggan rides. A very safe, clean and friendly environment and lots of under cover shaded picnic area.

Puy du Fou (1hr 30mins away by car)
This is where time stands still - and will be an instant hit with children and adults alike. You'll see villages from different eras, gladiators still doing battle and Vikings launching attacks on fortified castles! In the summer, there are 28 evening/night shows with 300 fireworks per show, 2000 digitally-controlled projectors, 1500 computerised fountains, 4500 costumes and many more special effects. There are minstrels in the heart of the woods and master falconers in the meadows. You must book in advance for the evening show. www.puydufou.com

Cycle rail on tracks (1hr 30 away by car)
This is a great chance for the entire family to have some quality time together taking in the beautiful countryside, and wildlife whilst enjoying a picnic. The cycle cars are designed for either 4 or 5 people each and run along an amazing 10km stretch of former railway line (of course you don't have to do it all!) http://www.vendee-guide.co.uk/velo-rail.htm

Oceanile water park (2hrs away by car)
At the heat of Norimoutier this wonderful water park offers plenty of laughter for the entire family. Crystal- clear water heated to 28 degrees, giant toboggans, rubber rings (single and doubles), huge wave-filled swimming pool and cascading waterfalls await you. Great fun! http://www.oceanile.com/

Fishing on the rivers (5 minutes away by car)
You can enjoy two types of fishing - On the freshwater rivers upstream from the lock gates at Moricq, you can try for pike, perch, carp, bream and other bleak. You will need a licence which can be purchased at the villages Office du Tourism. Or you can fish in the saltwater reaches of the Lay, from the gates of Moricq to the mouth of the river which is subject to maritime regulations, so you can fish free of charge, for grey mullet, eels and plaice

La Tranche sur Mer

The villa is only a minutes stroll from the centre of the village of 'Longeville sur Mer'. In the months of July and August the village has a large street market on both Monday and Friday mornings, so an excellent opportunity to sample much of the locally produced food, including cheese, meat, fish and wine.

The village has an Office de Tourisme, a post office, banks, hairdresser, beauty salon, florist, pharmacy, cafes/bars and restaurants, two butchers, a fishmonger, a fruit & vegetable shop and of course a 'cave' for you to purchase local wine. There is also a 'Hyper' supermarket, just on the outskirts of the village, 5 minutes away by bike!

In the summer months Longeville sur Mer organises special events in the square including fun days, evening entertainers, jazz and blues nights, firework displays and night markets. You can sit with the locals and enjoy 'moules & frites' listening to a band watching the kids dance to their hearts content.

Located so close to the village, you can visit in the evenings to one of the restaurants, or stroll down in the morning to pick up your fresh croissants and baguette.

The large fishing port of l'Aiguillon is just 20 minutes away. Early risers can choose from a range of freshly-caught fish, mussels, oysters, langoustine and gambas at the town's fish market which is open every weekday at 5am. Those who prefer a lie-in can sample the seafood later in the day at one of the many wonderful fish restaurants in the town.

Whether you're an experienced cyclist or a leisure rider, this area has plenty of surprises in store for you. All along the 'Loire a Velo' signposted bike trial, you can marvel at the stunning Loire countryside, visit chateaux & abbeys, stroll through quaint little towns & cycle through vineyards for over 110 miles!

The Val de Loire Vineyards Tourist Trail - 40,000 hectares of 'degustation' - The skills of the vine were introduced by the Romans, and are now one of the main assets of the Pays de la Loire. Sweet, dry, sparkling, white, red or rose - every one of you will find just what you're looking for among our prestigious AOC wines. Saumur Brut, Coteaux du Layon, Saumur-Champigny, Anjou Villages, Muscadet, Mareuil wines... From the Nantes area to Montsoreau, the Val de Loire Vineyards Tourist Trail extends you a warm welcome!

You will also find a comprehensive folder in the villa listing restaurants, activities and local events, as well as plenty of ideas for entertaining the children. There is a good write up of over 20 local restaurants that we recommend visiting with the kids and if you want some 'adult time' we can also organise the baby-sitter too!

“Lovely family/large group holiday house”

Reviewed 4 Nov 2016

We had a lovely holiday at beau rivage. The booking process was very simple and prior to arrival nothing was too much trouble. Felt like a very personal service with Donna (the owner) calling me on a few occasions before we travelled. They provided an extra high chair and heated the pool free of charge. When we arrived the house looked great and they had even wrote a welcome message on the chalk wall in the playroom with all our children's names on it. And adults got a welcome card and bottle of bubbles! Little touches had really been thought of even down to cotton wool pads in all bathrooms and baby shampoo and bubble bath (all branded johnsons) Kitchen was very well equipped with everything you would possibly need and 2 big fridge freezers. Lots of seating places - for relaxing and dining. Felt well laid out for our 3 families. Playroom was priceless for my daughter and niece both 3.5 years old. It was so easy for them to relax and play in their own space and doors opened out onto the patio. The only thing I would say is a lot of the dvds we put on were scratched and stopped part way through watching and toys need replacing or cleaning. But we were there the last week of the season so maybe this was to be expected. Pool area was very secure and we all really enjoyed using this area. The garden was nice but lawn was bumpy and dry more soil than grass in areas - so not that safe for toddlers to run around on. Maybe Astro turf would be better? We didn't really have any need for support when we were there. The hot tub and pool were checked regularly which was reassuring. We couldn't get the tv/DVD player/gamestation on the landing upstairs working but didn't try to get it looked at as we wanted the children downstairs with us anyway. But I am sure someone would have been there to help if we needed it. The little village had everything you needed - we had some lovely strolls (2 minutes max) to the local shops including a boulangerie, butchers, grocers and wine shop, 1 bar,1 restaurant. And also walked to local larger supermarket 10/15 minutes. Didn't feel like it took very long at all. Local market was great to have on our doorstep aswell. We found a fantastic gift shop in the village aswell that sells bits from the little lovely company which i love (along with lots of other brands) and it was actually cheaper than what I have paid in the uk! We drove out to il de re and La Rochelle - both great days out. Il de re is so picturesque! Have to say thankyou to Donna and the team and wouldn't hesitate about booking with them again.

Owner's reply: Another fabulous review for Beau Rivage. What an amazing year we have had again, so thank you to this guest and to all our guests who have visited this year and awarded such great praise for the product and service. It's been an absolute pleasure to meet you all and here's to many many more happy guests in 2017....! :) Donna & Jay x

“Fantastic family friendly and comfortable house”

Reviewed 28 Jul 2016

The house was brilliant for an extended family. Kids toys/dvd’s/books etc was SPECTUALARLY good A+++++, better than my own house!! Size of the property brilliant, and the kitchen was very well equipped. The pool was always very warm, which was good as my 3 year old granddaughter was in it for hours every day!! The village was very convenient and we made full use of the local bakery, the two bars and the twice weekly market. We took our bikes and used them every day. Fantastically flat and quiet roads for cycling. If you are looking for a large, comfortable house in a quiet village location I would highly recommend Beau Rivage.

Owner's reply: Another fabulous 5* review on Beau Rivage - thank you so much, we are thrilled you had such a great time at our home. We hope you will come and visit us all again soon x

“Lovely family holiday”

Reviewed 30 Jun 2016

This was booked to celebrate several 'big' occasions in our family. We had a very enjoyable time at Beau Rivage. Champagne and flowers were a lovely surprise on our arrival, The property was very clean, large enough to comfortably hold our party of 8 adults and could easily hold more. We didn't have any little people in our party but it was clear to see a lot of thought had gone into providing everything needed for children. The bedrooms were very comfortable, quiet and provided plenty of room to unpack your belongings. The kitchen was great, everything you could need and more to cook breakfast and an evening meal or BBQ. Plenty of fridge space, good dishwasher and washing machine (which we didn't use). Could have done with a few more tea towels. It was very useful that the basics were provided so you could hit the ground running when you arrived after a food shop. Supermarket close by as well as shops in the nice village, the supermarket opens all day Monday to Saturday and Sunday morning. Local bakery very close by. We ate out at the restaurant by the sports bar one evening and the food and service was excellent, worth a visit, you need to book. We visited the pharmacy for cough medicine and they were very helpful. We ordered our beach towels which we hired for the week and they arrived the morning after we arrived. Katie and Scott popped by occasionally to see if all okay and Katie answered texts promptly. We only visited beach once on an overcast day, we didn't feel the urge to go out much as the pool at the house was great. Sun beds are a little temperamental! Hot tub fantastic! TV huge and ideal as the Euros were on when we visited so men were happy. Table tennis table got plenty of use! Outside seating area lovely and big, was used during day and evening. Lounge nicely furnished, plenty of DVDs and books. Internet temperamental but this was addressed by owners and engineer visited whilst we were there. The owners called us prior to departure from UK to make sure we were sorted and called a few days after we arrived home to check all went well, Overall a lovely comfortable family holiday in a lovely French house

Owner's reply: Great to read you all had a very enjoyable and lovely time in our home during your celebrations. Thank you so much for choosing us and for posting your review. Thrilled the boys loved the footie on our new HUGE TV - thought they might....! :) Hope to welcome you all again soon x

“Wonderful family holiday at Beau Rivage”

Reviewed 14 Jun 2016

House brilliant, beautiful local beaches, pool gorgeous and helpful owners/staff. The web-site information, sales team and the booking process was excellent and very easy. We rated the following as excellent too – impression as we walked through the door, the cleanliness of Beau Rivage, the children’s toys/play equipment supplied and the attention to details from the housekeeping crew. We thought it was just an excellent overall package and we had a wonderful holiday!

Owner's reply: Thank you for coming to stay with us and thank you so much for posting your fabulous review of Beau Rivage. We are just thrilled you had such a wonderful holiday and rated out home as brilliant :) We very much hope to welcome you all back very soon. Thanks again x

“Big solid French house that is good for family get togethers even in winter”

Reviewed 24 Mar 2012

We stayed in the house just after Christmas and into the New Year. The house spacious even with all 9 of us milling around. As the weather was chilly in December, we went to the beach just once and did not use the pool at all. We spent cosy evenings by the woodburning fire, and days eating mainly, walking to the baker each morning, restaurant lunch then back to the house for the evening meal. Supermarkets are nearby, and have everything. The village of is very pretty, blue shaded shutters everywhere. Best of all, the boulangerie (bakery) was open on New Year's Day. The house had the feeling of 70's glamour, updated for today's needs. The kitchen looked new, the tables in the dining area sat all of us at once easily. The bedrooms all have the original windows and shutters, lots of character. There were enough loos and bathrooms for all of us. Linen was included and we treated ourselves to a chef for one of the nights. The children spent many happy hours playing with the games on the landing. There was also a separate sofa area with another tv if the children wanted to watch a film, which they did, and it worked well. I think the summer prices are more, but we found it value for money for the time we were there.

Owner's reply: You were the perfect guests and are always welcome back....! Thanks for taking the time to write your review on our home, it is very much appreciated and we are thrilled to be welcoming you and your family back for Christmas 2014.
