Very Good

“Excellent Villa, Lovely Clean Resort”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2015

I travelled to Murcia with my wife and two teenage sons and we spent 12 days at the villa. It is spotlessly clean and well equipped - it has everything you need for your stay - a bit of a home from home. We flew into St Javier airport, which is ideal as it is only 20 minutes from the villa. The airport is small, so it's a case of quick in and out, collecting the hire car and driving to the villa. We landed at around 9.45am and were in the villa by 10.45/11am. The directions the owner supplied to the villa are very clear and we didn't get lost. There are directions to the nearest beach (Los Alcazares) in the villa, along with a sheet of useful information - nearest doctors etc, and a folder containing bits and bobs such as local takeaway menus and places to visit. If you have small children Los Alcazares is ideal as the water is very warm and extremely shallow. There are inexpensive cafes dotted along the beach - we'd recommend Jhonnys as it is cheap and tasty. The resort is lovely and extremely clean. We visited most of the pools and they were very well maintained and very very clean. That is something which is resort wide. The pools are 'policed' by the 'pool police'! Who make sure everyone has their arm bands on and ask you not to play ball should you be doing so! But to be honest, the pools are all fairly quiet and no-one was making a nuisance of themselves, so as soon as the 'pool police' left, ball games generally resumed! Not sure I should be saying that, but hey ho! At the time we visited, the golf clubhouse was open from 9am to 7.30pm and serves food until 7pm. It is very reasonably priced. If you've done your research, you will have found out that the hotel and some of the restaurants in the centre are closed. However, we didn't see this as a negative, the centre is not derelict or dirty - again it is spotlessly clean, some units are just closed. At the time we visited, there were 3 restaurants which opened in the evening - a tapas bar, an Italian and one other, plus an ice cream parlour and a pub, so there is enough choice should you wish to eat out on the resort. We ate in the Italian and the tapas bar and found them both inexpensive - along with the golf clubhouse. I had a game of golf at the resort - it was about £55 to play, hire clubs and a trolley. If you have your own clubs, it's about 40 euros to play. There is a notice on the noticeboard outside the pro shop saying you need a handicap certificate. I didn't have mine with me and wasn't asked for one, so I'm guessing it isn't strictly enforced. There is a Spar shop on site. It is well stocked and not overpriced. There is also a supermarket in nearby Roldan and a few more in Los Alcazares, so there is plenty of choice. Should you need to visit the pharmacy in Roldan they do speak English. The staff in the medical centre there don't, but the pharmacist offered to write me a note in Spanish for the staff there should we need it - which we thought was really kind (unfortunately my wife had an accident at the waterpark and needed stitches, hence the visit to the pharmacy for painkillers!). It was very hot when we visited, so we didn't venture too far, but if you fancied a day out, a couple to recommend are the waterpark in Benidorm - about an hour and a half drive away - it's Europe's biggest so if you have teenage kids it's worth a visit - there are a couple of other waterparks closer to the resort. Book online before you go to get a discount - otherwise expect to pay around £25 per person to get in. We also did a river rafting trip with Rafting Murcia in Blanca - about 40 minutes away - incredibly cheap at 18 euros per adult and 14 euros per child - it's a bit of a gentle paddle down a river with a couple of wears thrown in and a bit of paddle splashing, but the guides (who speak Spanglish!) are a hoot and there's a beer and baguette thrown in about 20 minutes from the end as well. We also visited a local market - there's a list of which ones are on on which day in the folder in the villa. So, all in all, we had a great time. We'd definitely recommend the resort and will go back - the villa was lovely, the weather was good, it was very cheap to eat and drink out - either on or off resort - and the resort has everything you need if you just want to relax, meander to the pool or have the odd meal out. On top of that, the owner responded quickly to any queries and was very helpful. Great holiday.
